AJ Klien should be the starter at LB over Blackburn and Dwan saves the team quite a bit of money and should be replaced this season with Short.

But what depth do we then have at DT if we cut Edwards?. No Cole or Edwards means just two DTs unless we put chandler back on that side of the ball, the four man rotation helped the defence huge last season, so makes no sense to cut Edwards and he's productive and relatively cheap to keep on the books.

Not much behind them, just a few UDFA guys, but likely probably see a lower level FA come in to replace them. The team has to cut some cap somewhere and he's one of the only guys on the team they can do it with. Just the name of the game really and he's kinda an odd man out in this situation because of the cap.

He loved doing that. However the Contracts of Beason and Jonathan Stewart are inexcusable.

Beason could retire and not play a down of football next season and still have one of the highest cap hits for ILB in the NFL at 8 million. lol

Jordan Gross is going to have a cap hit of 5.6 million next season even if he doesn't come back.

How is that?  He is not being cut his contract expired how is his cap hit extended?

His voided contract was for three years so the team could spread out his cap hit through out the contract. He got a 4.5 million bonus last season for the restructure. His cap hit was 5.9 million before the void, after the void the team still has to pay his signing bonus, They still owe 1 million on his option bonus from 2010. The total of what's left of the bonus money owed to him totals 5.6 million, which is dead money on the cap this season even if he doesn't come back.

So for example if he comes back on a deal worth 5 million for 2 years, his total cap hit for 2014 would be 10.6 million.

    • I do think the rating is fair given how this unit hasn’t proven it with production. I understand you have to rank off production, not potential. However, our unit is also in a position to make this rating look foolish a year from now. We have 4 guys in the WR/TE room who all could legitimately take the next step this year, and catapult our rank. A guy under a lot of people’s radar after we took Tet, Jalen Coker. Mark my words, he will become the star of this room, and be the heir to Thielen.
    • Exactly. You’d think 2-7 wins a year (in a 17 game season no less) since 2017 is going to keep us bottom tier. Every year we say the same poo like we haven’t been a bad team the past 7 years. Until we prove we aren’t a bottom dweller, that’s where we’ll stay ranked. God forbid we have OL injuries like 2016.
    • What I love and hate about this team is it’s more filled with potential breakout players than ever before. JT, XL, Coker, Smith-Wade, Ikem, Trevin… and even Bryce are all guys I could legitimately see taking the next step. But the problem with having so many of those guys is that team success somewhat relies on them taking that step, and some are bound not to. That being said, I’m cautiously optimistic given our softer schedule, the way the offense clicked late last year, and the direction we finally have at GM, coach, and QB. Could see us as a sneaky playoff team.
