Riley Cooper would you want him

Just gonna throw it outhere as a I'm bored Saturday question, out of all the free agents listed to help the offense, little has been mentioned about Riley Cooper, ok I guess the whole racism stuff will put a few fans off and maybe some outthere question his talent, looking at the list of possible free agents it's difficult to see who would come in and take lafells spot as a genuine number #2, as small as his hands were for a receiver and the critical drops he made at times, plus the lack of desire and motivation to want to become Steve Smith replacement as the panthers #1, lafell still put up pretty good numbers and his blocking was very important to our game, we will need a viable option to replace him, and there only seems a small list of possibles, Nicks, Sanders, Burleson, Maclin and Cooper, with Victor Cruz asking for Nicks to comeback and Nicks saying he wants to stay in NY, I see it as a doubtful move at present he comes back to Charlotte, the jets are apparently in the frame for Sanders and Maclin according to nfl.com, although Maclin wants to stay in Philly and it's reported they want him to stay as a discount and he proves he's over his injury, Burleson could be an option but his age puts me off, so I turn to Cooper, would you guys like him in Charlotte as a legit #2 weapon for Cam, he did seem to play well in Philly even with all the the off-field drama surrounding him, seems a steady player good hands, big physical guy who I think Cam could hook up with, I still see us drafting a receiver too but somebody with experience and be ready to go from day one is needed aswell as young talent. So opinions??.

From a pure football standpoint, no. The off the field stuff just adds to that no. He's got good hands but really is not good at getting open. And with the amount of time Cam has in the pocket, we need guys who can get open.

He's an OK target, but I would like a better replacement for LaFell if it came to that.  The draft looks like a better option at this point, between a couple probably expensive receivers and a few ho-hum options.

Nicks is still a question to return to the Giants regardless of what Cruz wants. His return may hinge upon the market. If another team is willing to pay him more than the Giants, then he will likely be gone.

The good thing about Cooper is that he will probably sign for less than he is worth due to the stupid drunken racist statements he made.  But, it looks like he was able to make amends and had a good season.  Since we won't have a ton of money, he might be a value.

I am sure Gman can ascertain whether or not he earned his teammates respect back or not.

There is also the question of just how much his production in 2013 was due to playing in Chip Kelly's offense.

I don't see that as being an issue.  If he can do his job in Kelly's offense, then he should be able to do his job in our less prolific offense. If anything, he would hopefully help to raise ours a peg or two.

Nope. He felt safe to be a racist around his white friends, he wouldn't have given what he did a second thought if he hadn't been caught on video.

Keep him away from this team.

Because everyone knows he is the only player in the entire NFL to ever say n***** or any other derogatory word.

    • The same folks crying about the OL right now were crying about it in 2023 too. We have tied up over 100 million dollars in two interior olinemen alone. We've invested multiple first and second round picks in the offense. We hired an offensive minded head coach. This is an offensive team. The offense needs to produce or people need to be replaced.
    • This is the same place that has ridiculed and blasted Caleb Williams at every opportunity he has his team sitting at 10-4 in the same NFC that the Panthers are competing in. And their division in the NFC North is as or more competitive as our division. Yet from the same people who have very high standards for Williams we get every excuse imaginable for the smallest starting QB in the league even when he and his team continue to disappoint when the pressure is on. You lot aren't any less inconsistent than anyone else.
    • The Panthers are 9th in cap spent on offense this year.  However next season is already a different story  The Panthers as it stands right now will be 18th in cap spent on offense and 8th in cap spent on defense  The Panthers are currently set to spend more on defense next year than they are on offense this season Guys like Jaycee and Moehrig cap numbers take a big jump. Wharton has a massive cap hit   Jaycee Moehrig and Wharton in 2025 The same 3 in 2026 So this same defense as it stands right now will cost more in 2026 than this offense does right now… Got anything else you want to try?
