“Hey, thank you for leaving me off your Mount Rushmore. I’m glad you did. Basketball is a team game, it’s not for individual honors. I won back-to-back state championships in high school, back-to-back NCAA championships in college, I won an NBA championship my first year in the league, an NBA championship in my last year, and nine in between. That, Mr. James, is etched in stone.”

Disclaimer:

Bill Russell isn't even a top 10 all-time player, IMO. He was a great rebounder & shot blocker, an old school version of Dikembe Mutombo.

He played on a team stacked with HOFers & only played against a handful of teams. He shot under 45% as a center, which is mediocre. In '61 Boston averaged 119 points per game, yet Bill only averaged 14.

Legend of the game? Yes. All-time great? Yes. Top 4 all-time? Not even close.

I just thought his comments were both hilarious & kinda juvenile.

Yeah I agree with Chuck. The Rushmore stuff has reached unfathomable levels of stupid.

One of my friends made a good point about it the other day... its so dumb because when you look at when Rushmore was erected, and consider the number of presidents we had to that point in time, and then you look at the number of players that have been through the NBA, to equal Rushmore's proportions, you would have to pick 13% of NBA players from everyone that has played. Narrowing it down to four guys is just dumb.

As far as Russell goes, I agree. He is an incredible human being, and a legend in his own right. But should he be considered the best all-time? No. Top 3 at his position. Probably not. The guy played against like the same eight teams repeatedly. It's not exactly huge odds to overcome, lol. And as Bat man pointed out, his numbers are not very impressive. I don't get the reverence he seems to command.

wilt vs bill was like Godzilla vs Bambi...bill being bambi.  wilt average 50 points and 25 rebs per game PER GAME!!!, at halftime he had what great players get in a whole game.

bill got the rings, which are great. ask anyone not team green wilt or bill, if they understand wilt would be the pick.

Stuff like this is why I cant stand lebronSent from my SCH-I545 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

His constant in-game crying & flopping is what turns me off him.

Jordan is the only player in history to average over 30. Where do you get 50?

That's my biggest issue with LeBron, he is way too talented to act like he does.

He is always crying about somehthing to the refs, or to the Commish about season length, all star break days off, ect.

Wilt averaged 30.1 for his career, in his prime he averaged closer to 40 and 25 a game.

In wilt's second season he averaged 50 and 25.

    • I’m not suggesting that tanking is the right thing to do every time. I do think that if you have guys like Burns and Moore that you will trade anyway, then you should think about tanking and getting max value, especially if you want to grab a QB that might go 1st overall. We tried to do both. Trade CMC for picks but don’t take 3 1sts and a 2nd for Burns and Moore. Instead, we won a few games and then threw in Moore on a trade because we didn’t tank and we gave Burns away for a 2nd. Can you honestly say that fully tanking, by trading away all our best guys who weren’t in future plans, in 2022 wouldn’t have made our team better now? We wanted a rookie QB and we didn’t extend the main guy we didn’t want to trade. We were 100% in full tear down and we could have been a playoff team last year if we used the 4 extra 1sts or 3 1sts and 2 2nds (counting picks saved on Young by being pick 3 or 4 not 9) on D. Culture building is funny. It took three coaching changes to seemingly get there. Morgan and Canales weren’t in charge when we “protected” our culture. We still traded Burns and Moore, we just lost 3 first round picks in the process. Also, do you think the Eagles are in a bad place because of their coach clearly tanking a game for a draft pick? Remember that? It was obvious and the coach was fired. The funny thing is that this is something teams do all the time but they add their stars (like Cam in 2016, CMC, Burns, etc.) to IR or rest them in week 16/17. Pederson was just dumb and made it obvious. He could have just sat his starters to start. Anyway, did that incident tank risk their credibility? Did Barkley decide to not sign with them? Seems like their SB win and other SB visit say they are just fine. Winning makes culture, picking the right coach makes culture, trading away guys who are on other teams in a year for top picks and keeping more picks by having a better starting pick to trade up, does not impact culture. If it helps you win, culture will be fine, ask the Eagles.
