Life without Hardy may not be so bad?

I'm with Swag. We can cope as much as we want, but losing Greg will vastly effect the way offenses try to attack us. Just like they attacked Melvin White when he was in at corner, they'll attack the right side of our D-line and run away from CJ as it would become the weakest point in the run game. And in passing they will be sure to give help on top of CJ. Not looking forward to it, but it's more likely than not to happen

The two teams the Panthers are trying to beat are the Seahawks and the 49ers. We saw against these teams that when are pass rush is stymied, it is open season because we have marginal talent in the secondary. I am for getting compensation for Hardy and finding above average DBs in FA/draft. We need balance on defense.

In order to beat those team your going to have to beat their defense and the only way to do it is run the ball and score in the redzone, where we left 14pts off the board at goal line!!!! vs the 49rs.

Solution: Draft top talent for OL and WR/TE for the passing game.

our ace in the hole is rivera/mcdermott.

i have no doubt that they will be able to adapt to any adaptations opposing offenses make to the way they attack us.

we wouldn't go into a season without him scheming as if he was still there. imo, this is pretty much a non-factor.

"Jimmy and Joe's vs the X's and O's" you have to have the personnel first and fore most. Whoever takes that DE spot in place of Hardy (if they are on the roster now) would instantly be the least talented play behind KK, Star, CJ, Keek, TD.

You have TD at strong side LB on CJ's side in the base. Keek at middle. Either Blackburn or Klein at weak side LB (either of these is the lesser talented LB compared to Keek/TD) who is positioned behind Hardy's spot.

You now fill that with say Addison or Frank with Black/Klein behind them. This combo makes the weak side our weak point (#6 and #7 in talent of our front 7), so it makes sense for teams to attack this side in the run game.

No offensive line scheme would have kept Mario Williams from beating Bell like a drum. It's talent vs talent and losing Hardy becomes the least talented side in our very talented front 7

star and kk are entering their second year and should be better than last year and more able to withstand a full season. CJ, star, and even kk all warrant double teams. plus we are good about disguising blitzes and will only be better next year.

we'll be weaker than last year, but not as weak as people are making us out to believe we would be without him. again, we'll adjust and still be one of the top 5 defenses in the league.

plus, i believe that if we do lose hardy, we'll pick up someone cheaper via FA. i just don't think that we'll go into next season having lost hardy without the personnel and plan to compensate for that loss. it won't be 6 of one, half a dozen of the other, but it will still result in us being a defense that is among the elite in the league.

also, you have to know that money saved from not writing hardy a huge check will go towards helping out other areas and that will not just make us a more balanced and complete team, but will make us better overall.

i don't want to lose him, but i don't see how we won't go into next season a better team overall with or without him.

I don't disagree with anything you've said. I'm also of the mind that Hardy is and should be let go (trade if you can). It's going to happen, it's a tough pill and that's fine. I agree, DE in FA could be a nice cheap fix, but I still assert that offenses will likely plan to test the lesser talent on the weak side. The talent drop from Hardy to player X is for sure a downgrade. Not that it's pathetic and won't hold up, it's just not as good when Hardy is factored out; making the weak side the weak link in an elite front 7.

We're on the same wavelength, i'm just trying to out right state if you were to test a side of our line, it's likely to run away from CJ now. WIth Hardy, you're screwed no matter where you ran.

Just dont let him go for nothing, thats all

This is my thought as well.  I really, really want to keep Hardy.  I was a proponent of signing him before the season to make sure that we wouldn't end up where we are now if he had a big year.   Having CJ with a 76 million dollar contract on the same team makes it difficult to sign him.  I just hope we get something out of the equation.

Yes I understand that they need to improve on offense. I just want to point out that when the d-line is tired or is unable to generate pressure, our defense gets picked apart.  I never said that the Panthers should use a 1st round pick on a DB, but if they can trade Hardy for a 2nd round pick and use that pick on a DB and sign 1-2 more in FA, then they are free to go all out on offense during the draft.

Addison is already better than hardy was his rookie year but he needs to continue to develop

i would have a hard time disagreeing with this.

he sure made the most of every opportunity he was given. not sure why that wouldn't continue to be the case.

a huge part of that development might be just getting him more PT and experience. it sure didn't hurt hardy any.

I think Addison and Greg are just on different levels athletically. Addison could turn into an elite rotational guy, slightly above average starter.

If hardy walks ( I've already made my peace with this) we will look to replace next year if imagine)

I like what you stated before though hardy leaving will not cripple us. If this is what it takes to make us a more rounded team I will take the 5th or 6th ranked defense and a 10th ranked offense over a 1st or 2nd ranked defense and a 25th or 26th ranked offense.
