ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the 2014 salary cap should come in around $133 million, which coincides with reports from Thursday.

However, Schefter adds that the salary cap is expected to rise to $140 million in 2015 and then climb to $150 million in 2016.

Could give us more wiggle room with Hardy and a Cam/Luke extension

not really the market now is stagnant. one year cheap bandaids league wide.

we are a prime example of that.

There will always be some cheap deals, but I was referring to the teams over paying for big name talent, or to retain their own players.

See the Jay Cutler deal. That pretty much fuged everyone over.

Most of the huge contracts given to Johnson, Williams and Stewart were anticipating that beginning in 2012 the cap was going to rise to account for the new TV contract.  Unfortunately for Hurney things were flat in 2011 and 2012 and he got dumped in the process.  But everyone knew the cap was going to go up like it is beginning to do.  So there will be money to spend for players and they know that there will be more money to go around so they are going to ask for bigger contracts.  Smart GMs know this and are making contracts to account for that.  Again the guaranteed money is the much bigger issue.

Gettleman has said though that just because the cap is so high doesn't mean we will spend up to the limit like we did in the past.

I don't honestly see either of those guys literally "demanding" money. Especially Luke. Hey I could be wrong though, who knows. Cam is smart enough to know as the face of the franchise he's going to get paid, but he wants to win, and we need more pieces to do that.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
