So what now at LT?

He was their LT up until this past season if I'm not mistaken. He protected Flaccos blind side when they won the super bowl so it's good enough for me. He's not our best option but given our situation I'd take him

They shifted Oher to right tackle and played bryant mckinnie at left tackle for the playoff run.

Hardy was the only RE in the top 5 in sacks last season.

Of the top 10 sack leaders, 6 were DEs (one of them being Hardy.)

Cam is gonna get hit regardless and yes, LT is his weak side. He's so valuable because of his scrambling ability and getting outside the pocket. He's one of the biggest an most physical players in the league. If he can't take some hits or avoid the pressure, no one can.

We're gonna be fine at the OL and we may not get our franchise LT for a year or two and pro bowl LTs are hard to come by, so patience is needed here.

There's talent on the roster and of course the position will be priority in the draft At BPA in one of the top 3 rounds.

We'll get a legit #1 receiver too, I really believe this is our year and moving Smitty to the slot is going to enable Cam to get rid of the ball faster .

Stewart is coming back healthy and that will take some pressure off as well, so there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel.

Here's what I think we'll do.  I also think everyone will freak out and act like chicken little.

LT - Byron Bell

Pros:  His natural postion is LT.  Played it college.  He's left handed so it's more natural for him.  He's 6'5" and 340 lbs.  That's a mog holly.  Jordan Gross has a lot of genuine high praise for him.  This will only be his third year.

Cons:  He's slow.  He has trouble with speed rushers. This will only be his third year and 1st at LT in the NFL.

Prediction:  Against elite DE we'll have to help him out with a TE or RB.  He'll be average.  Better then he was at RT but people will still call for his head every game because he's not Jordon Gross.

LG - Amini Silatolu

Pros: Amini was really starting to come on when he got injured.  I think he's solid with a lot of potential to be elite.

Cons:  Coming off ACL tear.

Prediction:  Will take a few games to get back and trust his leg.  Towards the middle of the year he'll start to blow up.

C - Ryan Kalil

Pros:  Pro Bowler.  Experience.  One of the best centers in the game.  Has a great sense of humor.

Cons:  None

Prediction:  Steady as she goes.  Probably another Pro bowl.

RG - Edmund Kugbila

Pros:  Has all the physical tools to be really good.  He's another hog molly.  Pretty much got a red shirt year last year so he's not coming in blind.

Cons:  Has not played a down in the NFL.  We just don't really know anything except G-man picked him.

Prediction:  Is a man child from day 1.  Will tear up guys in the preseason and everyone will be saying he would have been rookie of the year if he's not gotten hurt.  Then the real games will start and he'll be up and down.  Some horrible plays as he figures out the position in the NFL but some truely great flashes.  Will be a really good player but might have an injury bug.

RT - FA and/or Draft

Possible FA - Zach Strief, Micheal Oher

Possible Draft picks - Morgan Moses (my favorite), James Hurst, the draft class is very deep at tackle

Ultimate Prediction:  This line will do just as good as last years line but people will bitch a lot more.

We will depend heavily on the run this season and it would be better to get the guy we really like at LT than to lose a top-5 DE and cornerstone of our franchise because we panic.

We have a lots of guys on the practice squad to evaluate as well that could make a jump as well.

Here are the OLinemen on our roster

Ht / Wt: 6'5' / 340

Travis Bond | Guard

Age / DOB: (23) / 12/10/1990

Ht / Wt: 6'7' / 330

Jeff Byers | Guard

Age / DOB: (28) / 9/7/1985

Ht / Wt: 6'4' / 310

Nate Chandler | Guard

Age / DOB: (24) / 6/1/1989

Ht / Wt: 6'3' / 315

Brian Folkerts | Center

Age / DOB: (24) / 1/30/1990

Ht / Wt: 6'4' / 305

J.J. Jansen | Not a Center!

Ht / Wt: 6'4' / 315

It's not like we have nothing to work with we just haven't needed anyone to step up. I'm not gonna write all these players off because it's an insult to them and why would they be on the team if they weren't football players.

We have the draft and the rest of FA to get the line together. I'm optimistic that we will still compete for the division with who we are gonna have.

Wasn't Chandler initially switched to tackle from DT, then played guard out of necessity? I wonder if he may go back to tackle?

yeah, he was Gross' backup heading into the season. he gave up zero QB pressures during preseason. hes nimble and athletic. seems to be better suited at LT imo. he still did a good job at G considering the transition.
