Do we cut Godfrey and let him test the market?

But we will complain when he leaves and say the season is lost.

No, we complain when a guy outplays him by a large margin and then we let him walk without even making an offer while Godfrey's sorry ass is still here making what Mitchell should have been.  That's when we complain.

If we cut Godfrey, I doubt we use his money to sign another safety. Also no telling how much Mitchell wanted. At the end of the day, no way he was going to stay with us considering what Steelers gave him.

I'm convinced Godfrey performs his assignments flawlessly from a coaching/evaluation standpoint.  If you think about it he really never does completely fug up, he's just unspectacular.

Still though his price tag is a bit too hefty, especially coming off an injury.  I'd think we'll see him take a flat pay cut, or get cut after the market dies down a bit and we compete to sign him back.

How much he wanted?  He signed for 5 mil per.  LOL.  That is a very reasonable price for a quality starting safety.  The impression I've got is that we never even made an offer.

Godfrey's cap # for 2014 is 7.1 mil.

We supposedly cut Smitty for an identical cap number.  Mitchell signed for 5 mil.  There's no guarantee Godfrey will even be ready to suit up and blow coverages and miss tackles like he usually does come September.  And yet, we're going to pay him 7.1 mil next season?

Yup, strictly business for Gettlemahpantsuptomahtits.

I don't see how we can cut him now. Mitchell is gone and they are bringing in srucbs like Harper in.

I don't think there's a better safety we can bring in at this point.

Our best option is asking Godfrey to restructure or take a pay cut.

    • You’re right. I was thinking of the GB game with the silly reach for the goal line when he wasn’t close that turned into a goal line fumble. I do remember all the discussions in here about end of the game interceptions and bad passes, etc. but that wasn’t against the Chiefs. That said, still the best season by a QB since Cam. Best 4 game run was Darnold to start 2021, but best full season was Teddy. That makes me really sad.
    • Agreed. I think they never seriously considered him an option even though he was/is miles better than Darnold.  I think the ego stuff was massively overplayed. He was played for the Browns, a disaster organization, and he accomplished more than they have in years. He came here to another diaster organization that happened to be worse than Cleveland and he didn't succeed. But, how could he? Frankly, who the fug could? I think our general fanbase really underestimates how terrible this organization truly is. It can nuke anyone.  poo, you see how Stroud is struggling with a damn good Texans team? Can you imagine how bad he would be here in our circumstances?? He can thank his lucky stars we made the choice we did.
    • I think the vast majority of QBs only thrive or die based on their situations. But some are capable of making everyone else around them better in a way they redefine, or at least elevate, those situations. And some of the former group also just never will really have "it" when the moment matters. So far it feels like Bryce either needs the perfect situation or he just doesn't have "it". I suppose we'll get the season to see if that changes, but to call me skeptical is an understatement.
