This is not on Gett.

Oh yes, which is why we didn't even try to restructure with him?  Come on, snap out of it, stop blaming Hurney.  Gettleman wanted Smith out.  Agree or disagree, it's the truth.

Why would you want to restructure? Restructuring only delays the inevitable. It doesn't help future cap space.

This roster is 100% on Hurney.

Sorry if it seems "played out" to you but facts are facts and the inflated contracts in the wrong areas are well-documented.

It's only played out if you want it to support your opinion. Hurney's contracts has put us in cap hell that is taking a couple seasons to get out of. We signed a lot of 1 year contract players last season and now they signed contracts with others teams more than what they are worth. We have to create space for the next couple seasons so that we can finally breathe and that involves many tough decisions.

It's funny, through this whole thing, people mention how we still have our "core" intact.

Cam, Luke, CJ, Hardy, Kalil, Olsen. Gettleman didn't even bring in those guys. Guess who did?

Who knows what was really happening and what was going down in the locker room. It may have been that Smith was stirring the pot about Shila etc...who knows. Bottom line is he would not been happy here playing with a rookie WR corps and DG did him a favor by letting him go.

Facts!! Our core that they keep talking about are Hurney guys. So if we have such a great core then thank Hurney because right now that's all we got.

So you sacrifice wins just because one guy had an axe to grind? I hear the chemistry word being tossed around a lot. How do you think the players feel right now? When asked about why they turned it around from 1-3 guess who they give the credit to?

Steve would have been very productive in the slot, and probably would have taken a pay cut if asked. Instead one man decided to just cut ties, with no replacement in sight

his production in the slot is pure speculation

his perceived respect in the locker room could very well be legit as much as it could be media-speak.  Players rarely diss other players, even after they leave.

I don't think anyone had an axe to grind.  I just think his play could no longer back up his antics and attitude.  He did not fit the vision Gett has in my opinion.  In my opinion Gett sees quiet Cam and silent Luke as the vision.

Smitty is good for one good catch and one baffling drop per game on average.  He has made some great plays in the past for sure but they were becoming fewer and farther between with some alarmingly painful drops along the way.

Don't forget also that this draft is deep in the WR class. I wouldn't be surprised if we double dipped at WR in this draft like we did DT last year. It was better to move on from Smith instead of delaying the inevitable money wise and development wise with Cam and his new WRs.

You mean delay to when we aren't in cap hell?

Or maybe ask him to take less money?

None of these things happened.

Instead, we received leak after leak about DG not wanting Smitty.

DG didn't want him here.

This is not Hurney's fault, then, is it?

If we let Smith go so Cam can develop with new WRs, how the fug does that have to do with money? It doesn't.

That's the point - this wasn't about money, it was about development of players on the roster, soon to be on the roster, etc.  Whether you agree with that being a good move or not is up to you, but that's what it looks like.

Restructuring wouldn't help us in the long term cap wise.

And I don't believe anything reported that can't quote DG on it.

You didn't read my whole post. I posted 2 reasons. I've already told you about the money part that you refuse to listen to.
