Pay cuts and restructures are NOT the same. Restructuring just transfers base salary into a signing bonus, meaning they get more up front and less per game. Pretty much any player would voluntarily restructure, but while it frees up room in the short-term it hurts teams long-term.

Sure, there can be other elements, but typically "restructure" means getting more up front instead of later. Whereas a pay cut is much less appealing.

You believe that there are two different definitions, which is not true. A pay cut falls under the definition of restructuring (changing a contract in any way). What you believe the definition of restructuring is is not true.. A restructure CAN transfer base salary into a signing bonus or move money to later years, but it is not limited to only doing that. A pay cut is a type of restructure, because it's changing the contract.

I'm talking about how the terms are typically used. Sure, a paycut is a form of restructuring, but that's typically not what happens when someone restructures. My issue was your first sentence calling the two the same. Taking more money up front with a smaller base is a restructure but NOT a paycut.

The whole issue is that Smitty's agent said they hadn't come to him about a restructure, meaning a change in contract, INCLUDING a pay cut.  That's my point. What you described is just a different type of restructure, but it all falls under the same category of restructure.

Still don't understand the wisdom in letting him go. Veteran, emotional leader, fan favorite, and a decent WR still. Guy played so many years with no help after Moose left. In return we have no decent WR and the team signed that MFer Harper who I hope tears his knee up before the season starts. Good on Smitty for being classier than our front office.

    • Don't have to be miss cleo. His weakness are length, athleticism, creating his own shot, defense, finishing at the rim,  Strengths - shooting and IQ.   Likely won't work as non athletic shooters don't typically work.

    • I live in Indiana and took a trip that weekend to watch my two friend's teams play (Chiefs and Vikings) IN Minnesota when they were playing at a college field, I think TCF? Anyways, our plan was to watch the game (noon game) then do some shopping at the Mall of America, I wasn't planning on watching the Panthers play Seattle since I was out sight seeing and walking around after the noon game had ended. By the time we were walking back into the Mall the Panthers were down by 2 scores in the 4th or going into the 4th and we were all thirsty from walking around for 2.5 hours after the Vikings game so we decided to postpone shopping until after we ate. We found this nice little sports bar inside the mall that had the game on. Man, I'm so glad we skipped shopping because that was probably the most excited I've been in some time for a win. Beating Seattle in 2015 felt like the "monkey off the back" sort of feeling and I knew we had finally arrived as a team. The entire bar erupted when Cam hit Olsen for that walk off TD. Literally one of the greatest moments of my life. My friend wasn't so happy though lol, by the time the Panthers game ended ALL of the stores inside the mall had closed and he wasn't able to get any souvenirs. It was his first time watching a Vikings game live and making a trip like that so he was legit upset lol. I on the other hand couldn't have been happier.
