Rivera says Steve Smith wasn't a distraction

You are insane. PLEASE show me where does Cotchery make the catches that Steve Smith does? Or the effort in blocking that Steve Smith does? In comparison, Steve Smith was signed TWO days after he was released. Cotchery? Two weeks after FA.

The fact of the matter is that steve smith's production last year is easily replaceable by a veteran wr which is why gettleman released smith. Smith is on the downside of his career, he was hurt last year and was slowing down. Those are the facts of the matter. People need to stop being emotional about this poo.

He was released to hand the offense over to Cam officially and start a new era. The end.

I'm sure Cam would rather have Smith on the roster then move on without him.  The Panthers have nothing offensively except Olsen, and he's no Gronk, Jimmy Graham, or Jordan Cameron.  He is very good, but he's not going to be enough to carry the team and most importantly the holes at OL are going to be enough to drown out any skill positions on offense.  Cam is going to get mugged with no targets and no blocking.

They'll be lucky to finish 3rd in the NFCS.

I don't see the Colts getting rid of Reggie Wayne to "start a new era".

The thing is, they did try to get rid of him and only later decided he was worth keeping.  It benefited them.  Greatly.

The back up plan was guys like jerricho cotchery who are cheaper and just as effective.

Keep drinking the Kool Aid and you'll believe that.  Crotchery is underrated, I do believe that.  But, he is not as good as Steve Smith at this point or any point past or in the future.  Crotchery is cheap but that does not mean squat when it comes to the poor decision the Panthers made by cutting one of the best players on the roster without a backup plan.

Crotchery was not a backup plan.  He was the last resort.  Dude had good years in NYJ but has since regressed to be just another depth chart WR.

because he's old & slow & Jerricho Cotchery is 10x more effective....

then their was no reason to do it. He is not old or slow. he is slower than before but no slow.10x is not demonstrable. Someone is lying. One says he was a distraction the other says he was not.

the fact of the matter is one down year in a down offense. So if he has a better year then your facts are proven otherwise. if you can judge that in one year then we can judge a good year the same way. it is not emotion it is logic and this is not logical.

so when he is not hurt this year and not slowing down then what? When the veteran who replaced him doesn't get the same production, then what?  No emotion just facts.

Why would you release one of your best players without a backup plan? In this case there was not even a backing up backup plan.

It was a poor decision.

Why are you on a panthers forum?

I can say with confidence since its still very early that our receiving group this year will be more dangerous and reliable than last season.

Which receiver would you rather have based on their last 5 years production?

Receiver A:  327 receptions, 4849 yards, 24 TDs (76 games)

Receiver B:  420 receptions, 5437 yards, 27 TDs (71 games)
