Gettleman Isn't a People's Person

If anything, this article shows me that Rivera and Gettleman work very closly as a team, something that is out of sight but very important.

Both have the same vision, and idea on how to get there. Watching eachnothers back, teamwork. We do this together mentality.

G.M.'s are supposed to pick a team together that fits there coaches.  However, how many bosses do you see with their employees sitting to their side making sure they stay on point.  If Rivera used the wrong choice of words then that's something different, but if Ron was on point with his statement, that means D.G. is the type of guy that puts his foot in his mouth

Instead of having the "popular choice" dictating what our GM does( media, fans), we have a GM who co-operates with the coach, getting players in the building who fit within his scheme.

Perhaps we are being extra cautious, considering how the media has trying to bait Gettleman into saying something at every opportunity. He hasn't said much since the whole smith thing, so two heads are better than one. I'm willing to bet Rivera is there to defend against any tricky questions the media tries bait Gettle with.

You jump to conclusions man and you preach off of assumptions. Sure, you have the go ahead to question Gettleman, but you're on here degrading him

I am not degrading Gettleman, all I am saying is he needs to watch his mouth and that's why Ron was there to keep the loose lips from sinking the ship.  Talking too much is a problem that can be fixed.  I like what he does in finding talent, I just hope that he can give the media just enough without rubbing players the wrong way.  Of course he has an opinion, but don't be the type of person to do it behind your guys backs.  That's wrong and not appreciated.

The issue that I have with your quote is simply, I don't care. Who cares what you think about my grammar. Do you have something useful to add to the thread or are you simply a troll with a kiddie avatar?

You crack me up.

By your own logic and statements listed above, you are a troll with nothing to add....because Sunshine, you were in fact the first to try and drop the grammar hammer on the OP. Then, you get all sandy and whiney when it is dropped in you.

Oh the irony...

Gettleman was less vocal last year about players and he handled cuts a little more transparent. There is a reason everyone was outraged about Smitty being cut and Gross retiring. Had the situation been handled differently the whole Smitty propaganda would have been died away. Don't act like the entire huddle wasn't pissed the way the cut was handled. Now all of sudden, it wasn't ever a problem. Right, and if we felt like that then you can imagine how the players felt.

You want to have more loyal players than a team of players just looking for the biggest check.

How do you (and so many others) have the time to defend/explain yourself so deliberately over a bad opinion on a pointless topic (like an NFL GM's "people skills") over an internet message board? Just take a break from the keyboard man.

People who have labeled gett, have labeled gett. Nothing will change their mind today. They already have bought and sold their prejudices. Their minds are made up while ignoring the good things he did in last year's draft and the bargain free agent signings, that all were part of the reason of our very successful 12-4 season.

    • I'm right there with you, brother. I've been a Panther fan since the day the team was awarded to the Carolinas.  We've had some good years, a couple of great years, as well as some low periods and no consecutive winning seasons. But I never thought I'd see such a period as we have over the past several years.   It has gotten to the point of being rather apathetic in watching them. In fact, I told my wife before the Miami game I was watching just to see what new and creative way they lose another game. And early on, it looked like they would. But damned if Miami wasn't more creative than the Panthers.   I'm now older than my Dad when he died (he was 65) and, like you, I've wondered if I'll ever see them have another winning season. I'd sure like to think I will.
