Can Byron Bell really play left tackle and Cam survive?

Have you watched how terrible byron bell is? He was our worst starting olineman last year and we had a freaking dt at guard...

His stats were actually not as bad as everyone here makes them out to be.

However, I am not sold on him being a great LT.  But, I trust Gettleman's and Rivera's evaluations much more than anyone's on here....including my own.

when you got nothing....you gotta spin sometimes and also hope.

Anyone who watches Bell knows he struggles w/ speed rushers.  Even if he is more of a natural left side lineman.....his physical ablity isn't able to hang w/ speed rushers and they live on matching up w/ LTs.

I am taking the comments from Gettleman to mean that they think he may be better suited for the left side and will be given a shot there during camp and preseason.  I do not think they have anointed him the starting LT.

I don't know if Bell is the answer at left tackle but then again I didn't know that Chandler would be the answer at right guard.  There will left tackles who started last year that will be cut after the draft as teams get their guy for the future.  We will find a few rentals for a year or two if we don't draft our future guy this year.  With as much as Gettleman likes Hog Mollies I am not as worried as others about our choices.  It is just April tomorrow.

So based off of what you saw from Bell, do you think he has what it takes to succeed at LT?

I think it has more to do with Gman trying to do more with less. A good LT cost 6 to 10 million a year which we do not have. I think the same could be said for WR. I doubt GMan thought the the guy with the big hair was our answer at WR. but it was all we could afford without a big back end contract.

If we can duplicate last years wins I will be ecstatic but frankly see us as a .500 team . Fixing our cap means doing without.

You may very well be right on the .500 team this year.

We are still in Cap Hell, no matter how many people on here think that we are not.  We are actually in worse shape cap wise next year, so all of the people clammoring for us to restructure contracts are idiots.  That will only push more money into the next few seasons and make it worse.

I do understand that it will take a couple of seasons for the cap mess to be cleaned up.  By the Panthers overachieving last season, a lot of people are forgetting about this issue....or they are 15 yo and have no concept of a budget or the real world.

They feel like his athleticism is his best attribute and another reason he's a fit for LT....

Plus where are they going to find someone to compete with him??? Fa? Lmao the draft? Not unless they trade into the top ten.

They won't, that's the problem. A stop-gap to protect your franchise QB after an offseason that he underwent ankle surgery is a big risk.

I actually think the Panthers are in pretty good shape in 2015. Extend Johnson and move his money and you free up probably 8-10 million easily, 11 if you cut him. 6 million from Godfrey being cut. 4 million from Williams. A few other extensions like kalil and TD. So the team would have 80 million tied up in 17 players instead of 109 in 19. That would leave them with about 60 million in cap space.

The sad thing is if it was not for cap hell we would have had a pretty good shot at the Superbowl under Cams rookie contract.

    • If Reich or Fitterer were still around I think the need to extend Young because of what he cost would be stronger.  And yeah Morgan was Fit's right hand when the call was made but there an equal chance that Dan will see it as a chance to move on from Fit and shake off that stink. Holding out some hope that 3 years and clear eyes will allow for an honest appraisal that Young just aint the guy
    • As far as elite/elevate talent QB’s It’s Allen Mahomes Jackson and Burrow that’s it.  Then we have tiers and those can be debated all day Dak is a good QB but I know this board would want him out of Charlotte if he was the QB here. 2 playoff wins in 10 years. Justin Herbert no playoff wins. Threw 4 interceptions in last years playoff game. 23 TD passes last year. 20 the year below and 25 the year before that. This board loves stats without context and these stats aren’t saying they’re much above complimentary  Kyler Murray isn’t good. I’m not sure how he made this list.  Caleb Williams, Trevor Lawrence both benefiting from some real good offensive coaches right now. They’re both complimentary pieces until proven otherwise  I like Jordan Love. Always have. I wanted to draft him but he isn’t a superstar.  CJ Stroud hasn’t been much better than Bryce after his rookie season. After that Bears game year 2 his numbers very similar to Bryce I will say I think Drake Maye is well on his way to becoming the next top tier QB if I had to pick one from this entire list. I’d also say Baker Mayfield is a damn good QB and I’d take him over most of those guys not in the elite category  Now if you want to debate tools and which QB’s possess tools to put them in higher tiers that’s a completely different discussion. Most QB’s on your main list all have those physical tools that will keep you thinking he’ll become the next top tier QB. They’ll sprinkle in a “wow” play or two a game. Bryce will never look that way. Young’s game at its peak will physically always look different and I think that’s where most people struggle when it comes to seeing how Young’s can be successful in the league  All QB’s need a team around them. I think the Bills are failing Josh Allen much like the Panthers did Cam. Beane and McDermott using same blueprint with Bills team. Josh Allen hasn’t had much in terms of WR’s and it’s ultimately costing them when it matters the most
