Arrow

Didn't see a thread for this show, so I'm starting one.

For those who don't know, Arrow is a show on The CW about DC's Green Arrow hero (he's neck and neck with Batman for my favorite comics, so when they announced the show a couple of years ago, I was more than excited). It is absolutely amazing. It sticks pretty closely to the comic origins, and where it diverts, it's worth it or at the very least, they make it work in a way that doesn't bother you. Stephen Amell is PERFECT for the role of Oliver Queen/Arrow, and the supporting cast is phenomenal. Mostly little known actors, as far as I know, with a few that are more well-known, like Katie Cassidy and Susanna Thompson.

There are a LOT of commonly known characters not just from the Green Arrow universe, but from the DC universe as a whole (mostly names associated with Batman). There was an awesome cameo by Harley Quinn recently, for example. Most of the characters aren't deeply developed, as you just can't do it with every character, but the main cast is well developed, and they try to delve into personal stories involving the minor characters throughout the episodes.

Plot moves well. Very focused. Utilizes flashbacks in every episode (mostly dealing with Oliver's time on the island where he was put through a crucible of sorts to become Green Arrow. Though, he's known as everything BUT GA on the show. Mostly referred to as "The Hood", "The Vigilante" and "(The) Arrow"). Plot basically works in arcs, like most shows based on comics would. Except, they're not drawn out like TWD. You have 2-4 episodes that deal with a particular arc where sub-plots are dispersed, and at the end of the seasons, it seems like they throw in the big arc that takes up 5-7 episodes with fewer sub-plots. The good news is, this isn't based on the comics any further than by name and origins. It's entirely independent, so you don't have that thought in the back of your head where you're saying "this episode isn't like the comics AT ALL" like you do with some movies/shows.

I know, long overview of it, but I figured I'd entice some to check it out. I couldn't catch most of this second season, and I just got time the past few days to catch up on it. HIGHLY recommend watching this, because it's rare that a small network like The CW puts out such a quality product. Anybody else already watching?

saw it on netflix and am really tempted to start watching it

Let the marathon begin. Marathon watching the past 12 episodes was awesome. I kinda HATE watching my favorite shows on TV now. I had to marathon the first season and 3/4 of the second season of TWD, and enjoyed that time with TWD MUCH more than I have since I caught up. Same with Arrow. You never realize how much commercials take away from a show until you watch many episodes of one show in succession.

I have yet to run into anybody who doesn't like it, and I have some picky friends when it comes to TV. Take that for what it's worth. Give it 5 episodes, at least. Give the plot time to open up and reveal where it's going. Because by the end of season 1, it gets crazy, and season 2 just keeps getting crazier.

It's guilty pleasure TV in the form of comic book series.  Let's be honest, it's typical CW fare.  Pouty young adults still holding onto teen angst.  Subpar acting.  Cheezy lines.  But I still watch every episode and I am not ashamed.

This is exactly what I was going to say.  I tell all of my TV watching friends and they always put it down like "oh well its on the CW"  They have a point but at the same time its sooooo good.

Got what I asked for. Probably going to watch it again when it gets put online, just because I missed a few bits. Solid episode though. I like that they're making it an interesting back and forth rather than typical "I'm going to kill you" and 3 episodes of fighting and not fighting and nothing else pushing the tension between the two.

Also, was I the only one who thought "poo, Thea knows that he's Arrow now" initially? Because I COMPLETELY forgot about the "other" secret (for the sake of not putting spoilers and being too lazy to use spoiler tags.

    • Steelers fans will take over the Stadium and city   It will be unbearable  worse for me, on the west coast, resigned to the nfl network and you know it will be a steelers broadcast team.    It was ungodly bad with sheduer 2 weeks ago  Last game, tried listening  on panthers radio and  watching  on espn live last week but the delay between the 2 drove me nuts  so as bad as they were playing, found something else to do
    • I mean I don't have a personal axe to grind with any human on the Panthers roster.  I know AT shouldn't be dominating the slot. The fact he is....is because we have a horrific front office/management.   I can part with any player.   The goal is a winning team.   the root of the AT ranting, is really just looking out for BY (people like to call me BY hater though).  A QB who was basically screwed from day 1 when we got drafted here.  I went hard at Carolina then too for setting him up to fail. Because it was obvious from the jump the setup was failure by design.  Which was true.   I said Frank bad zero sense with BY.  Miles Sandes made double zero sense.  The players they got in FA made zero sense.     Either you build a BY O.....or you move on from BY.  I have said I am cool either way.  We are in no man's land and have been there since they day we drafted him.
    • It's the QB school guy mentality. Thielen is a shitty #1 option so aaarrrrggghhhh FUUUUUUUUUG HIM!!! This dude SUCKS!!! Yeah, Thielen should no longer be a #1 option at this stage in his career. He honestly shouldn't be a starter at this point in his career. But it's not an Adam Thielen issue that we've had to ask him to do that.
