Should they move Barner to receiver?

Recommended Posts

I was impressed by Barner's college highlights but he was an easy tackle last season, and they better find a way to get him the ball with some space if he's gonna be effective. At least he and Underwood can talk about hair styles.

He's got the speed and ability to play a similar role to Sproles. Get him in the kick and punt returns, and some carries, and hopefully he'll become a really good weapon for the team.

I really don't understand the Huddle's obsession with Kenyon Barner... He hasn't done anything, he didn't do anything in the preseason, and his college tape was underwhelming to me. He is fast, yes, but he falls at first contact, he is undersized, and he isn't shifty like sproles is. I just see him as another huddle love guy who doesn't end up doing anything at all.

I don't think you move Barner to WR. I think you use him as a running back but drop off screens and short passes as a relief valve and let him run much like NO did with Sproles.

Sproles is more compact, he weighs the same as Barner and is 3 inches shorter. Barner seems to go flying at the slightest bit of contact.

Hopefully Barner has been putting on muscle and developing his NFL body. One of the biggest adjustments between college and the pros is how much bigger and stronger NFL guys are and how much time they devote to conditioning and strength building.  It often takes at least 1 or 2 years for rookies to bulk and produce.  Both Johnson and Hardy for example really excelled when they bulked up and increased their muscle mass.

Sproles is bigger and stronger than he was in college which is why he has been as durable as he has been.

I thought he actually showed potential in preseason. Just got lost in the depth chart, plus he kind of caught the yipps. Doesn't help when your blocker in returns backs into you either.

I think he needs some decent playing time not just thrown in on obvious run downs.

Don't know how you weren't impressed by his college tape, 1700 yards, 23 TD's, 1 fumble in a system we "were" sorta running.

Plenty of college guys put up great numbers in college and it doesn't translate to the NFL. Guys like Colt brennan come to mind for me. When I watched his tape, he wasn't anything special. he hit the holes like any back would and ran in a straight line. if he was touched he went down, he didn't show any extreme elusiveness or anything like that. he was  good college RB, he just didn't look like anything special to me.

Brennan played for Hawaii, C'mon man.

Dude has legit 4.4 speed. He ran the read option, something we were doing with Cam. I thought it was a no brainer pre draft.

I hope he blossoms next year. Unfortunately he probably still won't get enough snaps with Stu back healthy, Tolbert and Delo.

Delo was drafted in the first and falls down easily too.
