Panthers meeting with...a center from USC

Mr. Scot

hes a top 6 C, not worth the label of highest paid. similar to cj, hes just overpaid, still a great player.

is kalil 3x better than these guys?. kilgore is solid and bargin at 1.6 and hes the 20 highest paid C, i like bargains rather than overpaying. next year kalils cap number is like 12 million.....

He's a mean SOB, which I love. Could work on footwork a bit, but virtually eliminates whoever he locks on to. He really shines in the 2nd level as a run blocker. Destroys linebackers and safeties. He is very protective over his skill players too. Quick to put a guy in his place if he tries anything after the whistle. Likely the best interior lineman in the draft. He is a more polished Silatolu to me (not because the names are equally hard to pronounce). I like him. But I wouldn't take him in the 1st. Top half of the 2nd? Sure.

Plus having two guards named Silatolu and Su'a-Filo would be fun

Lemme guess, Kalil's contract was backloaded and saturated in signing bonus money too so that figure is just going to go up, right?

Now why on earth would you expect something like that?

If I recall correctly, Hartwig was our center when Kalil was drafted.  It wasn't a need then but it worked out great for us.  A few OL gems inevitably drop into the third / fourth round.  Would love for us to find some great value in the middle of the draft.

You recall correctly.

Martin is a really versatile guy so it makes sense that we would be looking at him. He actually took some snaps at RT during Fall practices his Freshman year. He excels at Center though imo, which is why he's probably going to be a mid second to early third round pick. Not sure I take him that high to play G for us, and don't like his feet at RT at the next level.

id gladly trade kalil and his contract for any of these guys minus myers. ive thought for awhile mangold(got injuried) was the best but after a great 2013 season kelce is challenging that. its not a insult to state kalil is a top 6 C, buts hes overpaid by 20%. a lot could be done with that extra 3 million. im glad hes a panther.

a mock came out yesterday having us taking Su’a-Filo at #28 over Moses, saying: "The Panthers need help along the OL or it will be a very long season for Cam. ... I think Su’a-Filo is a Pro Bowler in the making but is probably best served on the inside. They still need tackle help at some point."

(Robinson, Matthews, Lewan, Martin, and Kouandijo were gone before we picked... Moses went at 34, Bitonio at 44)

Wait we're bashing Kalil in here? Dude is on his way to an almost certain Ring of Honor career and potential HoF worthy career yet we're going to complain....WTF Huddle....

they are changing the current format of Ring of Honor under current fiancial conditions it is just going to be a semi-circle.

I leave for a few hours and meow Kalil isn't a top center in the league?

Judging from the way things have gone thus far, DG seems like the type of guy that takes things year by year, so I personally don't think this workout has anything to do with Kalil. It could very well say something about Silatolu, Williams, and Kugbila (all coming off injuries) though.

Martin's versatility is just another benefit, that way if Kalil gets hurt or the Panthers eventually move on from him, can slide right in to the center spot.

Marcus Martin played more OG than C at USC...

true senior: would be 2014 but left for NFL

true junior: starting C (replaced 4th R pick Khaled Holmes)

true sophomore: starting LG

true freshman: starting LG - was first team Freshman All-American by Sporting News, CBS, CFN and Scout. Was first USC player to start on OL as true freshman since 2007, and first true freshman to start at offensive guard since 2004

    • One game at a time We need to beat the (insert next team) next week We need to focus on the (insert next team) If we play our brand of Football we will be ok We are playing to win next week, then the division, then we'll see, once you get to the playoffs, everyone is 0-0 We'll be looking to put our guys in a position to win
    • If Raiden were a Cane, he'd get the double minor.
    • I agree it does seem the league is against Charlotte but the picks they've made have been questionable. They've had sure fire picks fall to them and they keep trying to build a army of forwards who cannot shoot for some reason lol. You got to make a move in offseason and or trade for scoring. I get the best aren't coming to Charlotte but theres been opportunities at solid players with experience, that would've come just to be the man here in Charlotte. They got to stop over thinking this in the draft too. Take the best scorers available! I'm hearing we need more size on the wing, a big man, great defender, etc. but nothing about scoring or a shot creator. This team has been terrible at shooting the rock especially from the perimeter and its a iso 3 ball league, no one plays defense or really runs an offense. This franchise does not do well with developing players either. I've seen too many guys take huge leaps once they were away from Charlotte which is concerning. And even more concering that they're taking developmental guys when they have no business doing so. So, All that to say take a proven scorer, high basketball IQ guy, a unpolished player will not survive here.
