Either we are doing exactly what we said we were going to do and that is draft a WR early OR this is the greatest smokescreen any team has ever run... 

 

Not really. It's just our team doing it's due diligence.

 

We have no idea how the draft will play out, and who will fall to us at 28. We need to make sure that Gman has his big board to his liking, since we will most likely be going BPA. 

 

It's not like our entire coaching staff and Gman has been personally visiting these WRs. It's our WR coach taking the time to visit and evaluate all potential prospects (aka doing his job).

No to Landry.  Like someone here, or an article said, Landry only got by in college because of his great ball skills.  Corners in the NFL are a whole different level, the guy has a 30 inch vertical, an barely get under 4.6, and is 5'11.  He lacks explosiveness and could be covered by most NFL linebackers.

I read yesterday that Landry is plummeting down draft boards, while OBJ is moving up and

might get taken before our first pick.

This was the last big week for pro days before the draft. The two main workouts were held by LSU and Penn State. All 32 teams sent at least one person. There were also a couple of small schools who have draftable players that worked this week, Bloomsburg (PA) and McNeese State (LA).
 
Penn State
 
As usual, Penn State always has some top prospects, but primarily receiver Allen Robinson. Robinson’s combine workout was just average, so he needed a big day to maintain lofty draft status. He came through. He ran the 40 twice and ran 4.47 and 4.51. His vertical jump was outstanding at 42”. He also had an excellent three–cone with a 6.58 time.
 
I really like Robinson on tape and gave him a first round grade, but his slow time at the combine dropped him a little. This week’s workout may get him drafted at the bottom of the first round, but more likely high in the second.
 
Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones weighed 324 and only performed one measurable drill, the short shuttle. His time improved to 4.63. His position drill work was very good, and I see Jones going in the top part of the third round, maybe as high as the bottom of the second.
 
LSU
 
LSU always has a number of highly rated prospects and this year is no different. Some feel as many as 10 or 11 LSU players could get drafted this year. The two most important people to workout at LSU this week were receiver Jarvis Landry and quarterback Zach Mettenberger. Landry carried a first round grade into the combine, and then ran and jumped very poorly, while Mettenberger had ACL surgery less than five months ago.
 
Landry worked better than at Indy, but still not good enough to get him back in the first round. He ran over 4.7 at the combine and showed improvement this week. I got times from three different scouts, and the range of times went from 4.58 to 4.63. When you average them out, he is a 4.60 type receiver. He also improved in the jumps, going 30.5” in the vertical and 9’5” in the standing long jumps. By wide receiver standards, those are very average. His short shuttle was 4.57 and his three-cone was 7.55. Again, very average when compared to other receivers.
 
Landry’s tape makes him look like a first round pick, but his workout says late pick. There have been other very good NFL receivers who have had average workout numbers. What will happen with Landry remains to be seen. At this time, I predict he goes somewhere in the third or fourth round.

      Yes. Fitt said he liked Young for two years. He hitched his wagon to him. Reich and Young were going 2-15, nothing I said we should get would have saved him. A new coach plus Tepper (and Morgan) would have wanted the draft assets we kept or got to be used by a better GM/Coach. SMH, you need to read my post and your own again. You said: “So we should have sold off all of our talent and what?” I was being sarcastic that they still were in the roster because the guys you are saying we shouldn’t have sold off got sold off anyway but instead of getting full value, we got scraps. We had an opportunity to sell at the highs and instead we let the stocks lose 50-75% and then sold them. Because we didn’t tank in 2022 when the Rams basically handed the idea to us, we either set the team back several years to where we won’t do anything and will be back at the drawing board or kept enough talent off the team that we may make the playoffs but we still won’t be a top team like an extra handful of 1st rounders could have gotten us.

      It was nothing. It was a nice run in an easy schedule that did nothing but lose us DJ Moore and a lot more. We were 2-15 in 2023. Based on your logic, that winning finish should have been a launching point. For as much as you want to say we shouldn’t have taken a risk, you still can’t admit that the plans we tankers laid out were proven correct. There’s no revisionist history. We said we should have traded Burns to the Rams. We said we should have sold off anything not bolted down like Brown and Horn and even Icky because they were in the 5 year plan. There is no disconnect, we tried to keep winning and draft a rookie QB and we lost about 4 1st round picks of value that could have been given to the guys you think might be the right crew.
