Should Canalas bring someone else in to call offensive plays?
strato replied to Jackson113.2's topic in Carolina Panthers
We could quibble about was that an answer to what I asked but I don’t see it as being one. Look, he agreed to this Evero thing. Up front. Apparently anyway. Took the job with those conditions in place. I buy that and will work off of it. This play calling issue isn’t the same thing. I am not in the mood to delve into Canales’ shortcomings and get out the pitchforks at the moment. I will abstain from that topic and stick to the quandary the dissenters who want to usurp his play calling power, find themselves in. As far as that goes I am still on the fence and think the play calling is Bryce centric and the play selection/playbook is affected. That does not mean I know that if the playbook was open he would be great play caller. Just that he is hampered right now. Inserting an OC not of Canales’ approval changes the original parameters of the assumed agreement. Unless you think Tepper placed a contractual prescription to allow Tepper to dictate that he can insert a play caller of his choosing after a time period if he is not satisfied with Canales’ work. Which, do you really think that is in play? I do not. Unless it is, Canales has the option to yea or nay. As I said, it could be forced on him. But they only do that if they want him out. And as of now his stock is up, I would have to say I don’t own any but I think it is up. He had the stadium rocking, the team in the playoffs, and has that sorry lil draft pick trending upward. Even at this very low rate. I think he has ‘hand’ right now as they say on Seinfeld. This is something that may get play in the 2026 season, not now. IMO. -

Canes now have 19 losses on the year. Here is the truly alarming stat. 13 of those were multiple goal loses. 9 of those were 3 goal plus losses. This team is getting blown out more than any other year under Rod. why? Blue line is a total mess. It’s just no good with their combinations. It pains me to say this, but they were mikes better with Burns and Orlov. They need Slavin so bad. Health. Size. The team is too small and has no physical play. Most forwards do not forecheck. Worst under Rod. Goalie play. Pretty average to sub par. PK is downright bad. It’s allowing a little over a goal a game. Worst under Rod. Team will not win a playoff round under its current group of players. It’s not constructed to do so against heavy teams. solutions. Must get physical size by the trade deadline. Rod and Tulsky know this. That probably has to come with the 2C. KKs size but a better scorer and meaner. The need another physical winger. Goalie. Either go all in on a top guy on a bad team or get average. Lastly, better defense. Need a Right shot heavy defenseman. Yes that could mean someone’s favorite dman could sit. Looking at you Boom. thats 3-4 new guys that must be brought in for them to have a chance at a cup. And it’s all players that are different and better than what they have. They have the cap. KK is gone. Add 4 mill back. And then hope it’s jells unlike Mikko.

Mike Kaye’s take: 2026 NFL free agency predictions
tukafan21 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
A 2 year deal for Coker would be terribly short sighted as I pointed out in another thread the other day. T-Mac will be eligible for an extension after 2 more seasons, and while there is still 2 years to go, he's very much looked like the type of player you extend right away, knowing waiting will only cost more money and take longer before the contract becomes a bargain with rising contracts every year. So if we sign Coker to a 2 year extension, that means we either let Coker walk after those 2 years or we don't extend T-Mac when we should, as I can't see signing both in the same off season much of an option, it was terrible for the Bengals this year. I like doing a 1 year deal for Coker to set his market value with a full season as the #2, and then sign him to a 3 or 4 year deal after that, which also separates Coker and T-Mac's contract years to help keep both around instead of having to choose at some point, like the Bengals should have done. I also think coming to an agreement on a multi year deal right now could be tough, the team will want to pay the rate of his actual production so far and his agent will want to be paid on his potential from his few breakout games, everyone might just be too far apart for a multi year deal.- 17 replies

Carolina Panthers pick No. 19-2026 NFL Draft

I would love Sonny Styles!. I don’t think he slips that far. Get the best OT available at 19. There is a good chance icky will miss next year and then come back and may switch to guard. -

Then they will have to depend on rookie tackles for awhile. They've got about 1 more good season in Moton and who knows if Ikey will ever return full strength. Better start drafting at 1 on day 2 at least. I personally would prefer a 1st round LT myself but I will take what I can get.- 17 replies

Get Nick Scott TF out of here please!

I would take pre leg break Alex Smith all day every day over Bryce Young….some folks in here are crazy.

Thats still not good. Look what he did this year

Absolutely. But you will be paying some starters on the OL. If you are going to phase out a couple being paid now, there could be room to give Linderbaum a nice signing bonus which pro rates over the life of the contract and a low year one salary. Build up the middle, inside out and front to back.- 17 replies

Hes faced 30+ shots though, and you dont win anything scoring 0

Special teams was the difference tonight. PK allowed a goal. PP allowed a shorty. That’s no good.

Looked to me like AT was the number one.

Should Canalas bring someone else in to call offensive plays?

You one of those guys that watched The Sopranos for the Tony and Dr Melli scenes? Pretty deep psychological motivations there. That headset cutoff, that came up in a discussion about pre snap. The claim was the defense waits until Canales is muted to show their hand, leaving Bryce with dirty underwear a lot of times. - Today

Yeah it is wasted for everyone. Even AT, who he fed, felt like it was wasted. Was done with it. The resources… surely as a long term Panthers fan and from that viewpoint, he put it on a side track that does not lead anywhere but right back where we were. Years later. If we had healthy CBs vs TB in ‘22 we could have gotten into the playoffs with a losing record. We essentially blew all of that time, money and assets to do a 360. 3 fuging years. Now we are supposed to wait 5 years for him to make mid. Top 15 ranking. I am not sure they would have waited 5 years for Joe Montana. You think Belichick waits 5 years for Brady? Not me. And we are in the era of the cheap slotted salary for drat picks era, where it is supposed to be easier to move on. You have to want to though and you have to be in charge with a clue. He has had flashes that lasted a whole game, a couple of times. I could stretch that to 4 maybe but I am not even sure of that. Maybe. He has had substantially more flashes that lasted a half or quarter, but all that combined doesn’t stack as high as his weak performances. It is maddening.

Well, I guess we know which team showed up.

Here is how I see it...You can talk to the QB until 15 seconds before the play clock expires. There are reasons to believe that Canales is spending a lot of time gathering information from those in better position to make the decisions. Have you noticed how often we break the huddle between 15 and 13 seconds remaining? I have a theory... 1. Canales is on the sideline. His view of the field is not as good as the OC, who is sitting in the box in the sky--he can see the defense, spacing, substitutions, etc. This means that Canales must get information from up top before selecting a play. 2. Canales has to spend time during the week with the defense, special teams, etc. in addition to the offense. The OC is with the offense all week. He knows the plays that were run well in practice--he knows the nicks and dings they might be complaining about--he knows their questions and input about certain plays, formations, etc. Canales may be aware, but not AS aware. 3. Canales likes the moniker "QB whisperer." He may feel more confident being the voice in Bryce's helmet because he is Bryce's mentor. Just a theory--but Canales could be the play caller because Bryce is the QB and he is trying to literally whisper into the QB ear. -
Dalton will get another year extension so his ends right with Bryce's 5th year.
-
Dan Morgan: Panthers will pickup BY’s 5th year.
SmokinwithWilly replied to Tbe's topic in Carolina Panthers
Also wasted time for Tmac and Coker both, possibly XL even though I don't hold much hope for him. If Bryce isn't willing to work on his footwork and gets a 5th year, why should XL work on catching the ball, or running routes, staying in bounds, etc. -
And it’s shows again. Maybe not 1C but why not.
-
Last years team was better. They sorely need a goalie, 2C, and physical players.
-
So we don't have any high level goalies now?

Bussi misplayed that, dangerous.
