Panthers Fan 69 started following Sean McDermott and Rod
-
Both have had incredibly talented teams that have made it to the playoffs a bunch of years, but have failed to win the big one or even a conference championship. The parallels are there and at what point does ownership get tired of just being happy to be there versus getting over the hump.

What is new is a team having trouble getting people to accept interviews. No one foresaw that, I dare say. A wrinkle not considered when the rule was constructed. Not sure why anyone would resist addressing it. -
RBA honestly has more bone headed decisions these days than good ones, he is a "players coach" very good at getting guys to play hard for him and keeping them motivated.... but honestly anything that requires a modicum of strategic thinking is out of his depth. I mean he has a goalie who is a legitimate veniza candidate at this point and he insists on trotting out Freddie ".850%" every other night we would have an insurmountable lead in the metro by now if he gave Bussi all games but b2bs.
-
Rumours? He literally didn't play for us - loads of 'soft tissue' injuries.

I actually wanted Coleman over Leggette in the draft but Coleman is a head case. No thanks
-
IDK how we go from good player for good player trade suggestions to dumpster fire bust for dumpster fire bust trade suggestions. Even though Coleman is better, he has a littany of motivation and discipline issues. Do we think milquetoast Dave is gonna fix that??

I am not worried about the contracts because any/all can be jettisoned in 2027 with minimal ramifications. I would like to land him because you rarely ever see an elite, 25 year old center hit free agency, this is a very weak center class and Mays is a bottom quarter starting center(love him as a utility IOL). Ideally this offseason we solve center and draft a high caliber RT/LT to fill the gap for Ikey. Then next offseason, pending outcome of the rookie and Ikey's recovery you can jettison Hunt(VASTLY overpaid), make a determination on Ikey's ability to play(perhaps extend him on the franchise tag as a "prove it"), and let the Ikey/rookien situation dictate Moton. He can be extended on a LOWER cost deal or jettisoned if Ikey and the rookie can take the reigns. Either way, both OT's will need to be resolved, we need an actually starting caliber NFL center again and we need to get rid of one of these OG's. Hunt is the obvious choice as Lewis is substantially better across the board and cheaper. -

That's not a thing. If they can't find someone, they either aren't actually trying or it's a poisonous job and no one will. Yes, plenty of them have gone with whom they wanted already. That's not really the point of the rule. It's to force teams to provide opportunities. It has worked well because coaches that wouldn't normally be given interviews are given that experience and teams have also been impressed enough to either offer them in the future or pass positive comments along to other NFL owners/front office personnel. Also, we are over 20 years into the Rooney Rule. This isn't some new thing teams have to navigate. -
I mean, as soon as Svech scores on the guy, trot out your best shooters while the goalie is still in his head and go for the kill. Last night made absolute zero sense.

Such a dumb idea

I agree with you in concept, but I think we've already made our bed by giving both guards big money. We have almost $80M tied up in G/Ts next year AND 1 OF THEM ISN'T PLAYING! We still need a starting LT for 2026. Another $18M+ is a hard pill to swallow, however you cook the books. Hunt - $24.3M Lewis - $16.7M Moton - $21.1M Ickey - $17.6M But it's all theoretic, because the Ravens won't let him walk, and if they do, he likely follows Harbaugh to the Giants per reports. -
I agree. Put him on the block officially and see what you can get. If it's a conditional 6th or 7th, fine. I think it would be best for him to be traded a considerable distance from this area and likely the South so that he can try to focus on football for a chance.

put me down for Jarvis on the next one.

Just saying. It made me think well, what if a team is trying in earnest and is held hostage by people not accepting their requests. You need to prevent that. Abuse of the rule has been happening since it was implemented, fwiw. They will interview someone they really have no interest in just to satisfy the rule. -
Don't particularly care to have either one. I'd rather just get whatever pick we can for XL. Maybe there's a team desperate for WR help that will overpay for a young player they liked pre-draft, similar to Dallas giving us a 4th for Jonathan Mingo.
-
They would probably want a 1st to take XL, in fairness. I would.

If we set the record for C AAV, he would immediately be the fourth highest paid player on our OL. Hence why I keep stumping(pointlessly, the Ravens will likely re-sign him) for spending on an elite center. They are the cheapest position on the OL and one of the hardest to find an elite player at. -

You can while a QB is on a rookie deal...or if they move off Bryce. -
At this point, the Bills would have to throw in a pick to wash their hands of Coleman. Coleman and a 3rd for XL? Sure. I don't want Coleman, cut him if you want, but pay us the tax of a decent pick and we can talk.

I fear Tyler is about to get PAID. Extend Mays, draft a C/G to groom. -
That is a big HELL NO. As bad as XL was this season, at least he adds a dimension that the coaches can use for specific plays. Coleman is just as bad, yet adds zero diversity to our receiving corps. I’ll take the guy that at least cares enough to show up to meetings. Getting traded to a new team won’t change either of their work ethics.

I don't think there is any real reason to amend the rule. If you do, the teams will just find a way to abuse it. All the Browns have to do is just interview SOMEONE to "get through" the process. Hell, interview Jim Caldwell if that's what the actual goal is, just to get around it. Also, they have all of the candidates required for the Rooney Rule in Aden Durde and Nate Scheelhaase. They are in full compliance already. Scheelhaase is already scheduled for a second interview, for that matter.
