This Bryce Guy (General BY Discussion in Here)
CRA replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
PJ's completion % was 63% when starting games in Carolina. Which I believe is better than Bryce when starting. And again, 4-3 as the starter here and the LONE QB Carolina has been able to actually win with in the Tepper era. If you ask a gambling gunslinger to come into blowouts.....they are going to go down in a blaze of glory. Which he would do. Yeah, he isn't good. And gunslingers are supposed to have rockier stats than checkdown QBs. So....why does PJ Walker have a better comp % as a starter than Bryce Young. And for every knock you want to make about PJ, you can find something or a skillset that PJ does better than Bryce. I didn't say PJ had good field vision. He doesn't. Tell me about Bryce after he comes off the first read lol. Let me repeat, PJ Walker is not a good QB. He is NFL depth and an in house arm. Bryce Young doesn't belong in a convo w/ Jake and Cam. He belongs closer in a convo with the backup caliber QBs Carolina was forced into playing. Which isn't just PJ Walker. But Kyle Allen. Moore. Guys like that. -
Oh I see what you meant by memory. I will trust my memory, I have looked a a lot of those ball charts for Bryce and they trend a general pattern. They thing that has changed that I have noticed more recently is the reduction in the bunching of behind or at the LOS passes over to his right. Aside from the quantity of throws recently since the running game has become a more dominant factor.

Yes but you basically said you are going from a quick skim of those charts without doing the same for Bryce and/or Andy. So you are going memory vs. snapshots. That's not going to be a very comprehensive analysis. -

I think if you Moneyball it, the point would be that you can get the same production for a lot less than committing 35-37 million or whatever it is, for 2026 and 2027. Don’t even mention extension. -
The Panthers win streak is masking substandard quarterback play

Only a few really like him. And a few were completely against drafting him and have yet to be proven wrong. Lots of people, who bought in but have crossed over. If you haven’t watched every game you really don’t know. He was fairly effective against your team, I’d say you saw the good side. -
I admit, I was a Trey Lance guy coming out of college. He has all the physical tools, bring him in and see if Canales can coach him up

Other QBs do too. It is on one hand, fair to measure him against the others based on the same standards. On the other hand, those standards are suspect IMO. Too loose. Like calling 20 yards a deep ball devalues actual deep balls. What we used to think of as deep before FF scoring influenced so much. -

It’ll be someone else’s fault too. OL most likely, or those WRs not having 10 foot arms. -
Well you can get chicken or egg with why, and debate that but at a glance you can see obvious differences. Some are stark. I am going with the casual fan overview that tells me he is putting less on Bryce’s plate. Looks to me he is calling the plays he knows the QB can handle. Just the hits. No deep cuts.

The day a defense shuts him down, is the day we all come back to realizing how bad Bryce is when he has to win a game on his own. I haven't seen Bryce will this team to victory with a complete game performance yet. -
Harbaugh is rolling with him as QB2, I see no reason why we can't next year and let him compete. He has everything you want physically. Sometimes these guys just need time and the right place (see Darnold, Geno, Danny Dimes, Warner, Delhomme etc...). If we still have Bryce, I'd love to add Lance and draft a midround rookie on on a player like Green from Arkansas.
-
I think Lance will end up becoming a good starter in the right situation. I don't think he'd come to the Panthers unless they were not going to be retaining Bryce with other teams likely moving on from starters. I could see him going to the Dolphins or maybe the Saints.
-
Lol I saw a talking head on some sports show say Bryce is still up and down in his short career…like bro it’s year 3 he’s still bad more often than not. It’s not going to magically change

Young QBs lead their teams to undefeated October
strato replied to KaseKlosed's topic in Carolina Panthers
I lived there about 3 years, left in 1980. It was mostly Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins. They didn’t care much about the Pats. I can only imagine once they got going with Brady. Except for the long ass cold as hell winters (why I left) that place was pretty great in that time but I wouldn’t want to be there now. Unless I was rich. And if I was rich I would be somewhere else… But the abundance, quality and eclectic variety of live music available on even on a Tuesday night, and the big city sports, plus the food variety was great. Except for southern food lol. They had one soul food place that was kind of okay. Sports because daily newspapers had so much pro sports coverage. Which you can get from anywhere now but not back then. -
I wouldn’t be mad at Trevor Lawrence but unless something weird happens go get

I don't think working from memory is going to be very productive or useful. You would need to compare them all, which is far easier to do from the breakdowns of each game. That has tiered charts that give real data. But, even then that wouldn't substitute for a trained eye(s) doing detailed film analysis to attempt to determine if we are modifying the offense dramatically for Bryce. -
I think front office and general team culture under new ownership is sort of on the right track. The rookies all look incredible compared to where you'd expect each one of them to be right now. Lee's in game coaching is awful, he might be ok as a culture and developmental guy but that can't outweigh the in-game miscues and bad game plans. If LaMelo can't figure out the ankles then I think you gotta trade him for a haul, can't keep having your seasons lost every year because he can't stay on the court. And I say that as a big fan of him. Miller I think is unlucky, he looks likely to be an elite core player for us, but if he can't put together a stretch of healthy seasons he would trend towards LaMelo and need to be moved. I used to like Miles on the court a lot more but nowadays he's just an empty stat guy who needs to go. The short lived hot start to the season was fun but unless LaMelo and Miller both get and stay healthy within the next few weeks I can't even see us being a play-in team this year. And even if they do get healthy, we're probably looking at play-in at best, maybe barely compete for that fringe 6th seed.

I just looked at the page with every game on it, it is pretty easy to see without going into the page for a given week. There is stuff unlike any chart of Bryce’s that I recall. And a couple are markedly different that the rest indicating a plan of attack for that game. I just took a quick sampling off the main page it looks pretty obvious. For anyone that is curious https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/charts/list/pass/tampabay-buccaneers/2023/week

This team could go far with a middle of the pack vet QB. I don’t know who’s going to be available in the offseason but pretty much anyone but Bryce and dalton and the panthers could win the division next year
