I wouldn't say most. I think people are letting the overall weak QB class and weak top of the draft board skee their views on Ward. If he played for Bama or UGA or OSU he would've probably been considered generational. The guy has all the physical tools you want and put up insane numbers. What more do you want? The only thing he lacked as a prospect was the media hype and honestly that was largely due to the Sanders hype machine sucking it all up.
-
Oh yeah, then there's this. Levis to miss season due to shoulder surgery. The Titans were backed into a corner. They had the #1 pick they could use on a QB, versus taking stab in a crappy FA QB market while dealing with an ineffective incumbent QB with a bum shoulder needing to be medically repaired. What choice did they really have? Most Big Boards of course had Ward the QB1, but few had him prospect #1. Position group#1 and overall#1 don't always align, even at the QB position.
-
Sometimes the most simple answer is the best one. Anybody that follows the draft knew this was a rough class for QBs. The media tried like heck to prop up Sanders just to make it interesting. In most QB classes, Ward would not have gone #1 overall. You know that and I know that.

Truly amazing insight here. LOL These draft class vs. draft class comparisons just aren't relevant. It really doesn't matter how prospects stack up vs. other draft classes. A lot of people are doing the same thing with T-Mac. Oh, he would've been the 4th or 5th best WR in this class or that class. Okay, great. We're still sitting on the clock at #8 and we have to make a pick or take a trade offer. Drafting a player from another draft class isn't an option so who cares? Everyone kinda accepted going into this draft that it was weak at the top but pretty strong in depth. Now we get to see how it plays out on the field. Plenty of draft projections prove incorrect.

The trade up really put Bryce in a huge spotlight. Yeah, the Bama/SEC effect definitely played a big role too.

I think there’s plenty of ways you can go about choosing the worst position group for us. LB, S, EDGE, hell even CB. For me, our biggest weakness remains depth. Plenty of reasons behind that (poor drafting, bad contracts, not a big market to attract FAs, etc.). Injuries will and do happen and for us, one big injury to any of our weaker position groups and things start looking similar to last year. The only position groups that can continue contributing while having injuries IMO are OL and RB. So both should be the only two considerations for strengths even though I understand the hope and/or projection for WRs. I tend to not use projection in “right now” rankings. But i get it.

If WR is our biggest strength that will be HUGE. It basically means that T-Mac showed up as a legit #1 WR from day one and XL developed into a legit starter over the off-season. IMO, the strength of the roster is obviously OG. We have one of the best pairs of starting OGs in the league with some decent depth behind them. The biggest issue we face is that there are numerous compelling arguments to be made about our biggest weakness. LOL

Guys that will either make or break our Young Quarterback!!

Plus he can still have a great season with a bad defense. It may not show up as wins but he should get plenty of drives to show how far along he has come in his development even with a bad defense. -

We had the 29th ranked O last year. 29th ranked offenses need defenses to flat out win games for them. and virtually ALL the investment went into that O while virtually intentionally letting the D slide. -
Well they do preface it by saying "there is some projection here." He is saying he believes WR will be the strength. I definitely disagree and think it will again be the OL and likely RB's but I wouldn't be so quick to say "doesn't watch the team" as much as maybe has a rosier view of the WR corps. Or maybe just doesn't have as high of an opinion of the OL as we do. It's an interesting take, to be sure. There are several here that have voiced that "WR corps is a strength" view.

Offensive line is the biggest strength currently followed by RB. Obviously doesn’t watch this team
-
This team/franchise is being constructed the right way. We are drafting smart/tough guys and things are moving in the right direction. I wonder if Ball and Miller will be able to lead, though?
-
I mean, if you spent the farm on Bryce Young and believed in him....Ladd makes way more sense than XL and an aging out AT shouldn't prohibit you from building a future that makes sense IMO. Ladd basically gets a year of mentoring from AT (not that he needed it)....and then you don't have to overpay AT to take up space in the slot because you got nothing else proven.

On paper and previous performance, this line is very strong. Not perfect but it shouldn't be a concern for a QB. There is a stronger case for concern related to his weapons than his protection but this offense is built for a QB to be successful and it is up to Bryce at this point. Cautiously optimistic based on the end of last season but time will tell.

Rookies report 2 weeks from today.

I'm soo excited we are getting closer to the season starting!! I hope the Rookies do well today -
Part of it is him, part of it is him being on the Titans. We would be in the same boat but ESPN loves Alabama stars.

God I hope not. Went through enough of that with Rhule. If worse comes to worse we will be in position to draft a QB. -

I wish it was different, but really, it's all in his own hands now. If he can come back and be that guy he was at the end of last season then we are looking at something long-term and grand. If not... then it is back to the draft, again. Unless Canales has another reclamation project waiting in the wings. Personally, I believe in what I saw. I think he can certainly do it. I want to see him succeed at the highest level possible. -
He’s a backup. Most teams are cooked if their starter went down for more than a couple games

Bryce needs to prove without a shadow of doubt that he's our franchise QB this year. He has the talent on that side of the ball to prove it. -
Kon vs. Sacramento

It's only summer league. But you gotta start somewhere. I'm just glad to see the culture of the franchise finally beginning to shift.

I think where they would be picked if redrafted before both classes have played enough football to really tell. Baker literally looked like a washout with us after Cleveland gave up on him, then turned world beater with the Rams, got a prove it deal with the Bucs and has looked awesome ever since. Asking where Ward would’ve went had he went in ‘24 is just stupid. I’m no GM, but I wouldn’t have taken Williams #1 either. I would’ve taken Joe Milton way higher than he went. I think Shadeur should’ve been a first round pick this year. Point being, opinions are like buttholes, everybody has one. It’s my opinion that Ward has that “something special.” I get that feeling that he’ll be an even better pro than he was a collegiate QB because of whatever that quality is. I think he’s gonna surprise a lot of people, especially being such an under appreciated first overall pick.
