Best and worst PFF grades from Panthers' Week 8 loss to Bills
Waldo replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Playing the bad teams early gave a sense that things were better than they are and playing the good teams when they are hitting their stride on the way to the playoffs are going to be brutal. The yearly stats are already adjusting hard. A bottom 1/3 O and a D dropping fast into the middle 3rd and falling. -
Checks out. I thought the o line was fine except right tackle. That spot was consistently bad Sunday. T-Mac is ridiculously good. I am surprised at some of those defensive grades. We had no answer for that toss play. I expect to see it a lot moving forward. Crazy to say this but I didn’t even think Josh Allen was that good on Sunday. XL continues to be a really tough eval. When he’s good, he’s dominant. He just completely disappears to often, and does the weirdest stuff. Stepping out of bounds for no reason on a route. Holding a block downfield. If he ever puts it together he’s going to be very good, but costly mistakes hurt him. You can tell by snap counts they love what he does. And he is max effort all the time.

That is refreshing to hear.

With the state of the OL the talent level of the opposing team and the venue it would be a small miracle if we don't turn the ball over let alone sustain drives. We squandered 8 drives against the winless Jets.

I don’t have the energy right now. Not finished licking my wounds and complaining. Preliminary thoughts … Loss. The awakening of rolling with RICO is a week late and they will shut our running game down (I watched some video and our receivers are sucking at their blocking assignments for the most part. Which most receivers do). It will be on Bryce to carry us through the air. Big test for him, good luck I can’t do scores. We’ll lose the game not sure it will be that close.
-
It will go one of two ways and depends who plays in the game. Canales gets his head out of his ass and starts Dowdle. Young manages to start. Cade Mays and Damien Lewis play. Running game gets going. Evero comes up with some scheme to slow down the Packers offense. The game is close but the Panthers lose an excruciating one at the end. They haven’t put together a good game against a good opponent yet so I’m going to wager this will be an epic massacre. 50+ to 10 After what we saw against the Bills I have little hope for option A and fully expect option B.

This is the answer. When the Saints who have been a complete dumpster fire at QB moved on that should have been an enormous red flag. But not for the Panthers who couldn't wait to bring him in to be a mentor and culture building block. BARF.

Packers got the #3 rush D and #6 D overall…. no reason to think Bryce can move an offense on them when he can’t do it vs bad defenses….and they got an O that can stress us at all our weak spots on D beatdown coming. 40ish to 10ish
-
If the Panthers can't run and keep running expect the same as last game regsrdless of QB playing. The Packers are in a different teir and it will show again. 30 - 10 woukd be a decent loss, could be a lot more again.

Do we need to pass around the hat?!?!?

It seems like "official" boards have gone extinct. The Bucs long ago had a fairly lively and decent board but it was temporarily closed mid-Gruden era and never returned. Falcons official board closed up shop about 2 or 3 seasons ago now. -
40ish to 10ish Packers. They are 1 of the best, most complete teams in the NFL. We are not.

I understand the sentiment that you don’t want to drop him and get burned. I say he needs to definitively prove himself and we have plenty of games left for him do that. As far as him burning us, he won’t get near the rope elsewhere that he has gotten here so if he is going to burn us he will need to do it definitively at his new place, which is really the same thing I am asking for.

The game will be over by the end of the 1st quarter. We score less than 10 points total.

Very fair point. I guess when Bryce get's to play spreadout, that works for him, but Canales won't do that because it's not going to hold up for a 17 game season. To me, this has always been a make or break year for Bryce. Year 3, you need to know what you have. We just don't have a full time, starting NFL QB. I will hedge that on the fact that he's only 24 years old. It's a small hedge, maybe just a shrubbery at this point since Bryce has had three full training camps as QB1. I guess I'm struggling with the balance between patience and performance. My desire is to be patient since he's 24, but he's also had plenty of time to improve. I just don't want to use send him off for peanuts and watch him reach his potential elsewhere.

He’s washed, I would rather play Tremayne and Coker who can also block in the run game

Sadly I was right about the blowout loss to the Bills but it was worse than I expected especially on defense. Packers opened as 11.5 favorites and it’s hard not to expect them to cover. I think the defense will play better but will still get demolished by Jordan Love who is playing at a high level after that performance against the Steelers. This is the type of game we have to actually play keep-away by running the ball but not sure if our offensive line with injuries can do that or keep Bryce from getting pressured to consistently move the football on third downs. I expect us to keep it close in the first half but Packers pull away in the second and easily cover.

He might go this week if Horn is down. I’m curious what happens when David Moore comes back, you already know somebody is getting voted off the island.

We should be thankful those people have someplace to go be stupid besides here. I know I am. We could always go back to the old email list discussion thing. It’s free. I mean, in an emergency.

Yeah, I had a feeling it was about Chuba being a Captain. Needed it to be obvious to everybody even Chuba. Not endorsing it just thinking of the why. It sounds like at least it’s done

Jimmy horn and Jalen Coker are better

An uninspired passing attack that ranked 28th in the league through week 7 (and that has probably worsened through week 8). No receiver is going to play in this situation and light the world on fire, much less one where the HC never really wanted the receiver in the first place. For me, it's not about the receiver as much as it is about QB play and coaching decisions. Even our WR1 who is having a fine showing as a rookie is being held back by ineffective QB play and questionable target share.
