I mean, if we get demonstrably better, I can see possibly staying the course. But even with a piss poor defensive roster, we need to dramatically improve for me to want to see more of the Evero Experience. There is only so much blaming the roster and injuries anyone is going to tolerate if we are consistently fielding bottom 5-10 units.
-
Yeah, that is a growing consensus and I concur. Hasn't shown much more than thin gimmicks(i.e. run scheme), obvious blitzes, and setting up dbs for blown coverages. I feel he could get canned even if we are winning. Maybe I want that scenario.

Special Teams Oddities (laces out?)
Panther53521 replied to BlazeCarolina's topic in Carolina Panthers
You want to bounce, and hope for an ugly bounce to prevent kick return from getting a run start. next step is: the returners will try to side up, then you want the ball to bounce and go through the end zone to start on the 20 -
It can be, but let's be honest, at the bottom of the depth chart, the only people it usually matters to are the players who find themselves with a jersey the first weekend of September. On the field, outside of special teamers, not much time will be spent under the camera's eye.

It's true. For all his faults, JR was a much better owner than Tepper in terms of cobbling together an averageish or successful team. We all thought Tepper would perhaps break the streak of all this average play mixed with good/great seasons. Mission Accomplished: We haven't seen either since.
-
David Tepper once said something along the lines that the league was basically designed for teams largely all be 8-8. If you are good for an extended period or bad.....it's the people running the show. the problem in Carolina is clear

I’m glad to know my comment can spark days and pages of conversations I never said Bryce was the best QB, we are set, he is consistent. If you read the rest of my post I said the jury is still out and luckily we can decide after this year if he’s worth the contract or not. But stats aside, which I didn’t even remember or care nor are stats everything, he did show as much advanced passing skill - ball placement, timing, footwork, zip - as anyone we’ve ever seen here towards the end of the season. I don’t see how that’s debatable. I’m a huge Cam defender, and Cam showed great poise and accuracy especially in 15 and 17… Jake had a lot of downs with the ups even from game to game.. both Jake and Cam had great leadership and intangibles and both are better than Bryce.. I’m not belittling either of them by saying that Bryce’s passing skill in that Atlanta game was very very good. Now if he regresses and isn’t consistent, starts being bad in the pocket again… then that is that and we can draft a new QB next year. I think even the most ardent Bryce supporters know he is on shaky ground.

possible ILB just became available

Well, even if the odds are low, it isn't like he is gonna bump a quality player off the roster at that spot. - Today

I'd give him a shot. Who knows, so why not. Remembr Frankie luvu was a special teams cast-off from the jets, turned out to be somethin special. Can't hurt to see, if not, no harm no foul. -
Special Teams Oddities (laces out?)

Care to elaborate why you disagree? We kicked the ball off 3 times and we kept the Browns to starting field position of the 22, 27, and 10 (would have been 21 before a penalty). All 3 of those are successes with the modern kickoff rule. -
Its August so obviously quality options are not there. The question is whether any improvement can be made to the bottom of the depth chart.

NFL has a huge amount of parity. The talent level between most NFL starters outside of the top 5 to 10 guys at a position is very comparable. 2020 worst teams Jacksonville Jaguars - 1-15 (worst record in NFL) New York Jets - 2-14 Cincinnati Bengals - 4-11-1 Atlanta Falcons - 4-12 Houston Texans - 4-12 Carolina Panthers - 5-11 Detroit Lions - 5-11 Philadelphia Eagles - 4-11-1 Los Angeles Chargers - 7-9 Denver Broncos - 5-11 2024 Worst teams New York Giants - 3-14 (tied for worst) Cleveland Browns - 3-14 (tied for worst) Tennessee Titans - 3-14 (tied for worst) New England Patriots - 4-13 Carolina Panthers - 5-12 Jacksonville Jaguars - 4-13 Las Vegas Raiders - 4-13 New York Jets - 5-12 Chicago Bears - 5-12 Arizona Cardinals - 8-9 Bengals, Texans, Lions, Eagles, Broncos and the Jags have all made the the playoffs in the last 3 years. What I'm saying is it's stupid to argue when team is the worst when there is so much parity and the system allows quick turnarounds.

We are talking about a single game performance. You are way out in left field rambling on at this point.

Who here didn't want Rhule and Reich fired? Blame Tep for hiring them but I'm glad he realized it was not working and investing more into their path as HC's was senseless. I think he was more than patient with coaches and GM's who were doing a horrible job. In many instances he overpaid by a large amount to get the people he's deemed will be successful or players his coaches wanted. Tepper ok'd some huge contracts based on his GM or Coach's opinion. Teddy 2 gloves (3yr @ 63 million with 40 guaranteed) because OC Joe Brady worked with him in NO and wanted him. The Bucs started looking at signing him causing us to give him a bloated contract to ensure we got him. Traded after 1 year. Traded a 2nd for Darnold and gave him his 5th year extension before he ever played a down for us. Rhule begged for Baker Mayfield and Tepper refused until we got him at a bargin and even with only paying 5-6 million for him, he sucked under that staff. Ben McDodo was behind the request for Ian Thomas's extension because he fit his offense. Never underestimate the lies or how stupid a coach on a short leash will be. Paid an insane amount of money for the dream team coaching staff lead by Reich. Reich was fired halfway through the season and the rest of the offensive coaches followed at the end of that year.

Yeah the league changed Cam for the worse after that Super Bowl and they drove it home entirely in the 2016 season opener in Denver. They did not want him in any way shape or form becoming one of the faces of the league. In large part I think this was a contributing factor in how Cam went out of his way to stand out and be unapologetically himself. He was giving the league office the middle finger. And I say good. F*ck them.
-
I do agree he has a quality basketball IQ. He also has the prerequisite talent in spades. The issue is and you can see this with his brother Lonzo. They just aren't motivated to get on the court. It's not that they don't play hard or that they aren't competitive. They just don't seem to have much if any drive to get to the mountain top which is a playoff run and competing for a championship. Just the experience of playing and making a boatload of money seems to be enough. That's never going to be a player you can build around. Like you say that's your second or third best player on a playoff team. But not the singular core guy everyone else looks to.

We got time. Will see how this next preseason game looks for them -

The Browns are a historically bad organization but they seem to at least have the right idea about legitimate competition at the most consequential position. -
Yes, 2015 was a tragedy IMO
-
It feels like that season was both the best time for him but also the worst with how it ended. I honestly don’t care to revisit 2015 either because it just makes me feel like poo. Forever tarnished
-
This doesn't make any sense to me. Almost a 1/3 of the NFL had the same or worse record than the Panthers last year they now have the worst roster while having one of the best defenders in the league back? The Panthers certainly haven't earned anything, but anyone with half a brain that watches football could see what was happening with this franchise in the 2nd half of the season. This team is going to be competitive this year and like every NFL season, a couple plays will dictate whether they have 9 wins or 6 wins.
-
That's certainly a take.
-
Also I see you slinking around here af 6 am spamming poo reactions @Icege Don't you have a family?
-
Say it with me slowly. Sustainability. That's what we are waiting to find out with Bryce. What parts of his game are and are not sustainable. If you disagree with me about his rushing that is your prerogative.

Our kickoff coverage was exceptional in the first preseason game, which is what this thread is discussing.
