BOLD TAKE: Panthers will draft Jacob Rodriguez @19
shaqattaq replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is a weird draft. I feel like, at 19, there are a lot of "3rd best" options; FS, WR, OT, ILB, Hell, even QB. If we can get a solid, long-term starter, I'm not going to bitch about it regardless of position. FWIW, I'm not sold on Sadiq at all. -

If TD and Luke love him i dont need to hear anything else. If there is one player that screams Keep Pounding in this draft its JRod. -

Thomas Davis was singing his praises on Smitty's channel a few weeks ago. He had Rodriguez ranked 3rd behind the 2 from Ohio State. -
I'm surprised that we could find 2!

BOLD TAKE: Panthers will draft Jacob Rodriguez @19
Khyber53 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
He won't be there by the time our pick comes back around in the second round. We've got to move in the first. Maybe, if the waters seem calm at the time, trade back with Buffalo and pick him then. Oh what the hell. Grab him if he's there in the first and then roll on. Take Jalon Kilgore, the safety out of SC in the second, and Lee Hunter the DT from Texas Tech in the third. And somewhere deep in the draft snag Caden Barnett "the Vanilla Gorilla" RT from Wyoming to study behind all of our linemen and set up to take over for one of them in 2027. -

Also, I think Schrager has a pretty good feel on the Panthers as far as national guys go. Wouldn't surprise me if plan number one is Thieneman. McShay echoed it recently on one of his pod appereances where teams/players he felt most confident in, the 2nd one out of his mouth was Thieneman to the Panthers. If he's gone, trade down is our next favorite option IMO since we may like guys like Rodriguez and KC more than others in the supposed 19 range. -

^I want that, but Rodriguez over KC. Don't hate KC as much at that spot, but rather take a WR with the pick we gain in that trade than in the 1st. -

I think there is good points in this thread to what the team needs to do. 1) Ball isn't really the issue but, he needs reigned in. Coach and he need to realize when things aren't falling from the three and learn to play other facets of the game. He's an amazing talent and when he's on, he's on. But he can also shoot you out of a game. We're lucky Miami went that way but that is too many missed threes. He still needs to bulk up if he can, but he needs to drive more. He's pretty good at finishing usually and hopefully the fouls come (probably not though). 2) The whole team needs to be more physical. As others have stated, we need more bulk in our bigs. Diabate is a hurricane of energy but cannot go against the larger centers. I love him on the team but he should be more of a match up type guy or energy off the bench. I think he'd be insane off the bench. However I think the biggest issue with Diabate and Kaulk is the lack of offensive game. The lack of a jump shot or anything. Teams figured out to just leave them on the screen and crash lanes. There has to be some sort of threat. We need a 4 and a 5 that can do those things and stretch out the court. 3) Bridges. He's just undersized. However, I feel he really threw his all into it the last few weeks when others were gassed. He was ok not being a focal point. I'd like to have him off the bench as well but I assume he'd be traded to make things work. 4) Miller. Dude can light it up when on, but disappears for quarters at a time. Also he needs to work on ball handling and passing. He's a turnover machine at bad times. Also hopefully over the injury so he can bulk up too. 5) Kon. Just a rookie. Long season and back injury. I have no doubt he'll be back stronger and focused. Needs to work on defense and physicality like the whole team but yes, a rookie he'll get there. 6) Coby. Has to be resigned, no question. The bench lineup is rough without him running the point. Team has big potential and the front office seems sharp. They seen the hive and how crazy it got and how much the city wants this.

I still go back to the beat writers having a read on Rodriguez IF he was in play at 19. If Dan puts his nuts on the table and takes him, pretty solid job of keeping the secrets in house. -

Not a chance. Maybe, just maybe if we move back far enough. -

Rodriguez is my pick. Dude came in college as a QB. Understands the mindset and one of our biggest issues last year was the middle of the field and coverage. Some worried about his size. You can put on mass but the mechanics is where its at. With DB require attention on the line, he will be able to get through for the run but his coverage skills is off the chart. Ive been saying this for weeks. He would be my pick. He wasnt a heisman runner up for nothing. -

It's wild that for most of the season, Stank and Freddie were seen as our 2 biggest impediments to a Stanley Cup. And, through the 1st two games, they would be our postseason MVPs! -
Pickett has a better deep ball than Bryce unfortunately, but similar touch on what Bryce would usually throw, and he can QB sneak. He won't get the same reps or favorability but I'd love for him or Grier to do well in preseason games to make Bryce look like a liability just to shake up the front office.
-
I still think another QB is brought in Day 3. Grier is camp body level at this point.
-
We’re in a pickle. My best hope is we protect him and can run the ball vs most Ds and the WRs are healthy so he has every chance to not look like what he looked like in too many games last year.
-
I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense. We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one. What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
-
Easy to understand Pickett, if this is anywhere close to on point. Canales wants to get as close to Bryce as he can- get the pace and timing in the throws as close a he can to Bryce. So the other players don’t have to adjust so much, to a new guy. If Cam was the 1, he would look for a rocket arm. But Bryce is the 1. Look for limited in the same way. Low velocity, plenty of air under it, feels just like home when Picket comes in. And you have the guys on the second team not having such a radical adjustment (if they have to play) like with Dalton to Bryce. Enter Grier. I guess we will collect those types.
-
Best part is if we draft him, we can also use him as our fourth and one QB sneaker
-
And we won every single one except the last one which was lost on a shootout. They struggled against a team of mostly AHL players that last game. Flyers are not a threat. Only team I see as a threat are the Canadians.
-
Why would I? I only care about the Canes. I am not one of those people who can watch other games of teams I could give a poo about. The Flyers don’t scare me. Pittsburgh is overrated. The Flyers are a mid team who will be swept by whoever they play in the second round if they make it. They are not a threat to the Canes.

Better arm than Bryce
