How to blow a lead for dummies in the second quarter. Pressing and poor shot selection.

We didn't have a healthy staring center. We had Corbett, a guard moving to center coming off a leg injury, BC as a backup role player and Mayes, another backup player. Chuba was fine and RBs are fairly easy to come by and get results when you have 2 road grading tackles and 2 new IOL. One thing watching other teams that have had high performance backs behind strong offensive lines has shown us is, blocking matters more than the back. When those backs leave to go elsewhere in FA or trade, their production drops off. We haven't had a true healthy center since Kalil and it's shown in our blocking. Taking a top end center over an injured RB to be a backup was an easy call to make. Even if we didn't take Frazier, we had too many starting holes on the roster to take a backup, especially one coming off an ACL tear. This wasn't a hindsight pick. Said it was stupid then not to take Frazier, and even more stupid to trade up for an injured back just because we though Dallas was going to pick him. By the 2nd round, there's not going to be huge differences in rankings. The blue chips are long gone and you need to start taking players who can start immediately, especially when you have holes all over. An injured RB is a luxury you just can't afford at that point.

Will this be like the Watson stuff from a few years ago?

The Panthers haven't drafted a center in the first two rounds since Ryan Kalil. Had one there waiting to solidify our OL and we traded up to take an RB with a torn ACL. The only people still rationalizing it are the Panthers FO or their family members I guess.

LaMelo and especially Kon and Miller have been handling business. Even Bridges has been more consistent as of late. Hornets bench needs to get it together though. Too much ugly basketball.

Um. Duh. Last I checked we didn't have that situation. In reality it's always going to be a combination of best talent at a position of need but it's a downright cliche to say draft BPA. Especially, if, hypothetically, you had a much higher grade on one position vs another even if you had more talent on the roster for the position of the higher graded player. If Brooks had a much higher grade than other players on the board, it makes sense why you would take him over a center at that time. If he doesn't get reinjured we don't sign Rico or draft Travis and maybe instead sign a FA center. In hindsight, picking a center would have been the better move but you don't get do overs in the draft.

Utah is following the Florida playbook by playing dirty so much so often that the refs won't call most of it. I've seen 4 or 5 blatant penalties not called and it's a big difference in the game.

I hate this argument because it just casually glosses over the fact that many people here on the huddle argued Cam would struggle with the playbook and wouldn't even do much his rookie year because he was regarded as a project. Whereas Bryce Young was afforded every benefit of the doubt before and immediately following the draft. Comparisons to hall of fame athletes across different sports etc. And the flip side of this is we have no idea just how good any of these receivers could be because we have never seen them with another QB who could raise anyone's ceiling. Everything has to go perfect across the board for us to even move the ball more often than not.

Shitty refs being shitty

People remind us of that all the time. By year two we probably had a better OL, in sum, than Cam did most years. We have good running backs. It isn’t all a tale of completely dysfunctional woe, with Bryce having no help. Every Bryce person seemingly, loves to tout the big time throws and all their stats, okay. That PFF page on him says 4 games of 16 regular season games with at or above a 100 passer rating, qbr, whatever it was. 11 games with under 200 yards passing including one with 40 yards net. Seahawks. They have him ranked 23d of 45 that they ranked. Putting our team’s QB 23rd out of 32 teams. In what people claim as his best season. That is officially number 1 alright, of the bottom third in the league. And they pick up the year option. He may do great next year. Or he may sit right where he has been mostly sitting - mid to low 20s. I understand we are committed to seeing him under center yet another make or break season. Thought we just went through one. Weill be doing that over. Mulligan. My question, f he is no better than 20th next year… do we have to do this again? in 2027?
