Should Dave Canalas be on the HOT seat??
frankw replied to Jackson113.2's topic in Carolina Panthers
Please enlighten why it's a good thing that our now 4th year QB got swept and outplayed by a rookie 2nd round pick bud. -
I think a T is a must. I read that they were going to let Nijman and Mays test the market--bold move--unless they feel good about the draft pool. An OT who can hold it down as well as Nijman, who could play RT in the future (or allow Ickey to move to RT, etc). I think this is a good draft at OT (I have read some who disagree) and C. Wonder if we go Edge (a third down speed rusher) and LB in free agency and draft OT, C, WR, and S? Man.

Should Dave Canalas be on the HOT seat??

Interesting how some people lay blame at the foot of the quarterback after the defense blew the lead the offense provided them, and for a wide-open dropped pass on the last drive that was acknowledged as a drop by non PFF-employed, non Tepper-employed FOX analysts and former players. The whole team, at every position, could have played better. But singling out one to place all the blame looks pretty ridiculous. Perhaps we'll next get a "swept by the Saints" comment to complete the set. -
I shudder to imagine the level of excuse making that we will see if Bryce falls off behind a degraded OL. I don’t know that he would be taking any heat at all from a lot of people. And to the article, it is slightly less critical to draft OL when you went out and spent what they did on FA guards. But yes it is time to get a plan going for the draft that includes supplying the OL with fresh blood.

Top 5 draft targets for positions of need
h0llywood replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm seeing a lot of projections with the team drafting Keldric Faulk from Auburn with the 19th pick. Am I the only one not liking that pick? Everyone is saying he has potential this and that, but I'm not convinced that his numbers (2 sacks) will suddenly get unleashed on the pro level. -
IDK get this logic, and maybe it's just me not having enough caffeine kick in, so my apologies in advance, WhoKnows. Kmet was drafted in 2020 and Tremble in 2021. Though Kmet has been in the league a year longer, he has more than doubled receptions/yards and doubled TD production in only 17 less games. If Tremble played in 2020, I don't see him going for 176-1908-10TD to bring him in line with Kmet. They are in different TE tiers, for sure. Kmet would be Bryce's new Thielen. I would argue Kmet is not elite but he would be the best TE we've had since Greg.

We all watched as our #1 pick couldn't complete a single pass in 4 downs with the game on the line after a guy pushing 40 walked down the field and kept all 3 timeouts in his pocket. The bar for some folks here is just having a QB that exists I guess. -
...and here i was being negative lol. You are right though. It could be much worse.

It sure does. I can only find two little almost silver linings. And from his perspective they aren’t silver linings. He could have waited until camp to blow the tendon, or the first week or two of the year. At least we have a chance to adapt with the timing of it. The extension that was planned for won’t happen and we can repurpose that money. Where if the injury happened in camp or in season, that was already signed and we are mega fuged. But it sure does throw a monkey wrench into whatever they had planned.

Good luck to him. He'll always be part of our history. And who knows but possibly our future again, too. He always seems willing to come and consult when needed.

Never really knew what he brought to the table other than a legacy Panthers figurehead. Had high hopes for Caldwell, and maybe he has more of an impact than we know, but unsure his role. See also: Idzik, Brad. What are these guys doing to make this team better? Thanks for your work in the '90s, Dom. Apologies that your last years in the league will be in Cleveland.

Should Dave Canalas be on the HOT seat??

This ^ 100 percent. I think a head coach should be managing the game, not calling the plays. And yes, Canales has worked something impressive with what he inherited from the two (and interim) coaches before him. This place was a total mess with a broken culture. Like I said before, something is being built here. We don't even have all of the drywall up, much less a coat of paint and carpeting down yet. Let the man finish what he started. -
The Icky injury certainly complicates things. But Morgan backed himself into this corner with Center. I feel he might be getting a little complacent and forgetful of how horrific the position was just a few years ago.

We have a tough schedule next year, but if we can't get to 7 wins something has to change. If we get to 7-8 with that brutal schedule i'd imagine he's safe for another year. -

Boo for losing Dom in general. But it was time. On the other hand, at what point should one just retire?

I mean.. man it really sucks Icky got hurt.. completely changed our offseason plans.. That said, letting Mays test the market is not bad. It allows us to geta comp pick for him if there is a strong market or allows us to try to bring him back at an affordable rate.

We need to draft OL, but if our OL is meh at best, it will help answer the Bryce question. Not advocating for trotting out a bad OL on purpose by any means, but in the continued up and down assessment on Bryce, I don't want the decision to be made solely around when he has "perfect" circumstances around him. Bryce has 2 years left on his contract, and I'm sure we're planning on using every bit of it to assess him unless he balls this year, or fails miserably. If not having a quality LT means we suck, we're draft high and get a new QB. If our OL is eh, but Bryce plays well, he's answering questions. Again, not advocating for ignoring the position because I'd prefer to constantly pour resources into the OL, but we can't or won't always have a Top 10 OL for the duration of his career here. poo or get off the pot time, because the 2027 draft class might be too good to pass up if we even *think* we need a QB.

Absolutely. LaMelo is our best playmaker and Brandon's our best pure scorer but Kon is consistently solid at both. We need at least two of them to have a big scoring night to win games and that's a lot easier to do when we can count on Kon to be the floor. Enjoy the luxury of this trio in Charlotte while it lasts.

Next up Caldwell!

Sounds like Coby will play against the bulls. Let's see how they look the next 10 games. I think anything less than 7-3 would be disappointing
