Bryce Young is a problem — what would you do if you were Dan Morgan?
Khyber53 replied to OldhamA's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, I've been torn up all week about this. And I'm going to be honest, you and I don't know poo about what is going on with the team. Are they losing the locker room? Not seeing anything from the players about that, just seeing it on forums like this. Are they concerned? Yeah, I'd think that would be a reasonable assumption. Are they rallying around Bryce? Yeah, that I'm seeing from the stuff we see of the players. Is some of it a bit drummed up, quite possibly. Is some of it genuine care and belief in their teammate, yeah most definitely. What is Morgan going to do? Hell, that was just week 1. And week one is often a liar. Once in a while it tells the truth (and that sure was an ugly one to tell last Sunday). Most often, it's just what it is. Half the teams that played in week one lost. Straight down the middle. Sometimes it was a close game, sometimes it was a blowout. We got punched in the face, had our lunch money stolen and Jacksonville kissed our girlfriend. Me, I saw a team that wasn't up to speed yet. We were playing like this was the fourth pre-season game like we used to have. We're going to learn a lot about Bryce, this team, our coaching and team management after this week's game. It's against the Cardinals, a team that has always been one of those benchmarks for it. Beat them and good things happen (remember that killer game Julius Peppers had against them), lose and it often starts the fast slide to the bottom again (sadly, that playoff game with Jake...). Right now, the Cardinals have their Bryce Young, except their guy still has a better PR department. They have a meh-ish defense. They have a star WR that is underperforming and was possibly over-drafted. They don't have many stars to speak of and dwell around 3rd-4th place in their division on a regular basis. In other words, they are pretty much on par with us. And they are a forgotten team as well, playing games in obscurity. So, yeah, we're going to learn the tale of the season this weekend. And honestly, if we lose like we just did or worse, and I was Dan Morgan, I'd be working on polishing up that resume`. -

At this point, I don't want anymore fools gold from Young. He either needs to be in the MVP conversation (lol) or I want to get blown out every game until he is off the team. Our front office just isn't bright enough to handle anything in between. -
Bryce does throw to the middle that's not the issue the issue is it ends in catastrophe all too often. And that is unfortunately directly related to his physical attributes.

I'm sure everyone thought he wouldn't revert back to square one at least. And I'm sure they knew that there wasn't a savior on the street to bring in just incase. This was always the plan. Young just extended the plan but Young extended it by playing well for a few games at the end of last season. He will not be afforded that luxury this season. He has to prove it wasn't a fluke ALL season this year or it's over. Andy is out after this season so whatever happens now will be up to Young. -

https://x.com/throwthedamball/status/1861543708040274065/photo/1 His number 1 WR has been Thielen who took most of his snaps in the slot, Bryce throws to the middle of the field. Idk what games you are watching but that’s not his weakness -

Who are the top QB prospects for the 2015 draft?

It really does. Without a QB, you've got no shot. -

I'd be fully on board with drafting Sellers and sitting him for a year if necessary. Get a veteran who can start during his rookie year and let him learn. He's got elite potential. -
Richardson has a ridiculous arm - the problem is his footwork sucks.

What do I do for the 16 remaining games of the season?

CJ Stroud also had one of the best rookie years of all time, and yes he had a downward trend last year that should be concerning but isn't cause for benching. BY had a decent stretch of games and then poo the bed. That's it. -

Interestingly very few have proposed a solution - they've just reiterated that the current Front Office won't do anything (which I agree with). Here's my answer: Identifying the Problem It’s becoming increasingly clear to most Panthers fans: Bryce Young is holding this team back. In a quarterback-driven league, we’re stuck with one who not only limits the playbook due to his physical constraints, but also stunts the offense with his inability to process and execute routine plays. This isn’t a bare-bones roster anymore. The front office has invested heavily in the offense: Offensive Line: One recent first-round pick and roughly 33% of our total Salary Cap Wide Receivers: Two recent first-round picks Running Backs: One recent second-rounder, one recent fourth-rounder, plus Hubbard and Dowdle And let’s not forget the two first-round picks (and D.J. Moore) spent to acquire Young himself. The Solution We need to be proactive and move on from Bryce Young - immediately. Continuing to start him means writing off the season, which neither the GM, coaching staff, nor fans can afford. There’s simply too much invested in this offense to let it flounder under a quarterback who isn’t elevating the unit. I’d explore cost-effective trade options for backup QBs around the league to staunch the bleeding. Dalton and Hooker aren’t viable starters. I'd re-evaluate in the offseason to see where we stand - and consider the Draft and Free Agency if the need arises. Identifying Value Take Sam Howell, for example. The Vikings traded him and a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Eagles for a 2026 fifth and a 2027 seventh. That’s a low-risk deal for a QB who threw for 3,946 yards, 23 TDs, and 23 INTs in his lone starting season. Potential Targets Tier 1 – Younger QBs with upside Tanner McKee Malik Willis Anthony Richardson* Trey Lance Tier 2 – Veteran or stopgap options Gardner Minshew Mac Jones Aidan O’Connell Davis Mills What to Do with Young Ideally, I’d include Young in a trade package if possible. If not, I’m fine with sitting him until the offseason and then exploring trade or cut options. His value is low now, but continuing to start him only makes it worse. This team deserves better than what we’ve seen so far. The pieces are in place—we just need a quarterback who gives them a fair chance to compete. -
Stroud has a wee bit more success than Bryce. Bryce looking bad is the norm, not the anomaly. He's not able to execute the most basic decision making during plays, especially when he was touted as this master processor. Its year 3 and he looked like a rookie in preseason. The play calling is blah but I'm not so sure its not because of Bryce being unable to do more.

Maybe this is a controversial take but I think Gen Z is a totally broken generation and this is the cause of some of the crime spikes. They grew up on social media and have a very skewed sense of world view and self. They had to spend several formative years during COVID isolated from people. They don't have the same amount of social capital in real world interactions as past generations which helps build internal confidence and maturity. It's a generation raise on tik tok reels, podcasts, and snapchat. They think their words don't matter because they've primarily interacted online and have no idea how to interact in the real world. Couple that with decreasing job prospects in a declining economy, and crime is going to spike nationwide.

If they did then Dalton wouldn't be here. We knew but your making a leap I can't follow yet eith them. Also hard to justify a year 3 for people basically tanking in your scenario. IdK just saying -

I'm sure everyone in the building knew that this was a possibility. I mean, if they went into the season thinking that the only outcome for Young would be that he would have an MVP season, then we are royally f*cked. We knew the odds and despite what they've said publicly, knew this was most likely outcome. -
Why is everyone focused on BY while the real problem is ignored

Because he wasn't wanted in the first place, by the majority. -

Well the problem with that is how do they justify keeping their jobs after setting up a year like this and ending up with a top 5 pick
