Number 9 Carolina Panthers Bryce Young, the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, produced career highs in completion percentage (63.6%), passing yards per game (188.2) and passing touchdowns (23) in 2025. However, those numbers aren't exactly stellar by NFL quarterbacking standards. Even though the Panthers backdoored their way into the postseason in 2025 as NFC South champions with an 8-9 record, Young's performance was up-and-down. He threw for the third-fewest passing yards by a quarterback to make the playoffs in the last 20 seasons, per CBS Sports Research. FEWEST PASSING YARDS BY QB TO REACH PLAYOFFS, LAST 20 SEASONS (MIN. 16 STARTS) PASSING YARDS PLAYOFF WINS 2012 Christian Ponder (MIN) 2,935 0 2008 Joe Flacco (BAL) 2,971 2 2025 Bryce Young (CAR) 3,011 0 2006 Steve McNair (BAL) 3,050 0 2019 Josh Allen (BUF) 3,089 0 Young did deliver some high highs, like when he threw for a franchise-record 448 yards passing in a Week 11 overtime win at the Atlanta Falcons and when he went toe-to-toe with Stafford in the playoffs in a 34-31 defeat. Kenny Pickett couldn't win the Cleveland Browns' quarterback competition a year ago, and Will Grier is a career backup. This is Young's team. That thread has all the huddle legends either posting in it or mentioned in it. I remember everyone of those folks and I truly miss seeing them post here. This place was so much better with them here.

Fwiw, our schedule was middle of the pack last year. Mainly because our division was so bad. Against teams that made the playoffs, we were 2-4. Not great, but not horrible. With a below average defense, and an offense that had the youngest group of pass catchers and pass throwers in the NFL, its probably slightly better than expected. One thing I would like to see this year is that we don't start the season in a hole. It would be nice to be at least 2-2 after the first 4 games.

That post brought up a bunch of names I've forgotten about

Dang, I remember that post. In a bid to remember those days, I came across this old thread. A lot of these guys I haven't heard or seen from. I do know that PhillyB is still out there kicking ass making movies.

After the sh!tshow of penalties in Game 1, you had to know Game 2 was going to be tightly called. Unfortunately, the Canes were pretty undisciplined.

Bears W Lions L Bengals L Seattle L Broncos L Green Bay W Browns W Steelers W Philly W 4-2 in the division Panthers go 9-8 and win the division again. Bucs lose to Dallas and the Chargers Atlanta loses to KC and the Commanders NO loses to NY but beats the Raiders

I do not fully remember it myself but it made a lasting impression on all of us. I wish there was a way to dig it up on here just so the newbs could get a glimpse of how this place used to be.

Bryce’s new look. He looks like a grown up
frankw replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
38 year old Matthew Stafford put up a combined 831 yards and 6 touchdowns in two games in December and January against the greatest defense in the history of the galaxy. The 2025 Seahawks defense would have gotten lit tf up by the elite QB's of the 2010's if a guy pushing 40 can give them fits like that. -
Been here since 08 and somehow missed this one lol

The forehead kiss tale will go down in huddle history as one of, if not the funniest stories I've ever seen someone tell on this board.

These casual social media fans need to study and understand football that existed before 5 or 10 years ago before going around throwing around best of all time awards. -
TE in this offense is largely pointless anyways. Even if we had a coach who valued receiving TE's more we do not have a QB whose skillset centers around maximizing the middle of the field. It's actually one of his weakest areas. Njoku would just end up disgruntled here.

Yeah some of us said last year that he had so much room to improve he could be a lot better and still not be good enough. He was a lot better in a handful of games and mediocre to impotent in the rest, and that isn’t good enough. So there you go. -

Blind squirrels and all… he occasionally gets a lane and can operate. I don’t think he can make his living there and it is why I didn’t think we should invest a whole lot into trying to develop that part of the offense. Like with a highly drafted TE. I feel like with him, it is super simple; you need to make running the ball your strong suit. TEs that can block. A big OL. I am concerned about the RB room there is a lot riding on Brooks. But a great RB room. If those things aren’t strengths it will not have a chance of working. Then you need to take the downfield shots which have been missing for most of three years, maybe every down isn’t defended like we are in red zone. Because that is what teams do to us.

Pretty sure that a QB contract payday is all the competition any QB in this league needs, I don't think a competent backup is going to make them play any harder when the current situation wouldn't warrant the contract extension yet anyways. Your opening point in this post is also the problem, "Bryce has shown signs of improving", but that's still all he's shown, and he's only showing that because of just how bad he was to start his career. If he played like last season from the beginning and never improved one bit, then I actually think more fans would be ready to move on from him, which is what's weird. It's like going from one of the biggest draft busts of all time into the 25th best QB in the league over 3 years means he deserves a long term $40+ million a year contract extension. Improvement shouldn't be the goal when the result of said improvement is still bottom of the league levels.
