Dan Morgan: Panthers will pickup BY’s 5th year.
kungfoodude replied to Tbe's topic in Carolina Panthers
That's much better than it sounded in text format. Not shutting it down completely is fair. Noncommittal answer. -
I imagine they will start to explore what his side wants so they can be prepared. It didn’t sound like something he wanted to do.

There’s no way this front office gives him a long term deal off what we know today. 5th year is expected, let him earn a deal. -
Thanks for reminding me why I had him on ignore

Your Feelings on Bryce Through 3 Seasons? (POLL)

First off let’s just establish we were not the 15th ranked scoring offense we were the 16th. Secondly, the 16th scoring defense is even by your own chosen statistic chosen totally average and not special. To anyone that actually cares about defensive advanced statistics, EPA per play is much more effective in determining the actual quality of a defense we ranked 23rd. We were 30th in sacks as a defense, Everos defense is exactly bend don’t break. It naturally gives teams the opposing team the time of possession advantage. This defense is by no means good, in fact at best it is a marginally below average group. I’m not even trying to defend the offense that is also a below average group, but it’s pretty clear we need to upgrade the defensive significantly before we’re close to being Super Bowl contenders. -

Okay, that sounds a little better than I expected. That was basically a non-answer. Listen, if you're considering handing out a franchise QB contract that's not something you're casually talking through. That's top of mind, first thing on the docket stuff. -

This dude is dumber than a box of rocks -
has he done enough to warrant the 5th year option? yes. has he done enough to warrant a long-term contract? NOPE. unless it's a team friendly deal where they can easily cut him without huge cap ramifications then sure.
-
If this front office signs him to a long term extension I'm fuging done with this team until Tepper and his band of morons are gone. That would absolutely sink us.

That better not happen in an attempt to "get a good deal" before CJ's contract gets inked. -
Stupid fuging *****.

I don't see a lot to warrant all the backlash against Princely. Yes he has to be better as a player but history could end up being on his side. Aside from the previously stated stats, don't forget that Clowney had 9.5 sacks with Baltimore in 2023 and 8.5 sacks in Dallas this season. With Evero: 5.5 I so believe PART of what he is saying, that it is the coaching and scheme that limits pass rush pressure and ultimately sacks.

Terrifying. -
I saw plenty of Princely this year not rushing his gap or keeping contain and teams targeting him to run at. Scourton is more of a 3 down lineman, Princely is a Brian Burns type of edge that can only rush the passer. Princely is raw and needs time to develop, but he also needs to shut his mouth.

That is currently Justin Fields at $20 mil. Unfortunately, that isn't realistic. The contract to watch this offseason is Stroud's. More than likely he will ask for more or similar. -

Exactly where I’m at with it. My only issue is, let’s say he improves to a top ten season next year, he then gets top ten money. Can he stay at a top ten level? That’s where I have trouble giving him an extension. -
Evero's defenses have finished 23rd, 32nd, 29th and 30th in sacks. He will likely never have a top 10 defense in sacks. It is scheme. Brian Burns second lowest sack output was his season with Evero. It was also overwhelmingly the lowest Pressures he had ever had in his career. If you want a high pressure, sack heavy defense, it is never going to be with Evero.

how much different does this team look if they didnt draft mingo or kadoosh and instead got a productive linebacker or safety with those picks
-
It's the move that makes the most sense. He gets another year. If he shows another year of growth and more consistency then you can potentially build a long term deal. If he doesn't grow, then you haven't committed too much resources to him and the team can still be built up outside of the QB room. We definitely need a new veteran QB to be a backup and push BY if he isn't playing well.
-
Dan just said a long term contract for BY this year is still an option.
