Canales handing over playcalling duties
Candler Cat replied to therealmjl's topic in Carolina Panthers
Will this help drain the BY excuses? -
What would significantly help serve the next QB is a balanced roster sir. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/position/offensive-line/_/year/2026/table/active/sort/cap_total Here take a gander at the salary cap totals to the offensive line for each team for 2026. Take note of how far down the list a number of playoff teams and the current Super Bowl champions are.

It was a really unsatisfying year if the goal was resolution of the Young question. That was me, my big picture view. I can zoom into individual games and find a lot of satisfaction with some of them. We had some wins we haven’t had in years, and games that were competitive even in a loss - like the Wild Card game. We have been starved for even a taste of good for years, so from that standpoint it was good. But looking at it as confirmation that Bryce is the guy? Welcome to Yo yo roller coaster bi-polarville.

Getting this out now because tmrw is a poo show for me. Tampa Bay will be on the rear side of a back to back and we need to have this win! We back baybay!

Sure we'll be involved in talks but I can't see any scenario where we trade LaMelo, Kon or Brandon. And I can't see any scenario where we get another superstar without including 1 of those guys. Hence my use of the word "realistically" in that post.

Oh yeah the switching up the play calling is often the first punt. It usually isn’t a voluntary concession. Except I think this is possibly more an honest self scout than pressure from the owner type of a thing. Is this a defensive move reeking of fear like it normally is, trying to placate an unhappy owner/fan base or a sincere attempt to improve the results? I am leaning sincere. I say that because I get zero sense from Tepper that he is even one foot off the wagon. He seems to be very much on board, going by that McAfee interview. The average fans are the same. All bought in after making the playoffs.

Canales handing over playcalling duties
Panthering replied to therealmjl's topic in Carolina Panthers
Wow, I'm shocked. I wonder if they reviewed all the games and came to the conclusion of the play calls and the quarterback did not mix that well. Granted, I think I know which side carries the brunt of that blame, but it's just another step in the "Is Bryce our guy?" experience I suppose. I do wonder how much this will free up Dave though as well and help Idzik grow and potentially get interview opportunities. -
This is a must watch for all Panthers fans.

Exactly my feelings back then. I never took Wilson as a top QB because of that either. Right or wrong. I guess some of it was I envious. Of his luck lol.

XL in year 3 is now in full on salvage operation mode. A TE is the cerebral safety valve first down machine who catches everything and fights for the tough yards… so pretty much everything XL is not, unfortunately.

call me crazy but I like this move moving Canales to a more CEO type role I think will help w/ running the day to day function of the team and also with in game management of situations. I think he was so focused on calling plays he was sort of losing the forest for the trees so to speak.

BC…. yeah he was the super sub and we could have used him to fill in at LOT. It is hard to trust a big guy with some age on him to come back the same after that injury. Even if people do come back from it, it is often a two year window before they are back to what they were, that first year can be sub par.

I've never seen utter unawareness of the sideline at the NFL level prior to XL. It's not like a one tike one off thing, it's happened multiple times. What should've been easy catches turn into incomplete passed because he seemingly has no clue where he is on the field and makes no effort to get both feet inbounds. I mean, this is stuff that's just second nature playing sports before you hit muddle school.

Canales handing over playcalling duties
Gapanthersfan replied to therealmjl's topic in Carolina Panthers
Hiring Bevell feels like a Dan Morgan move, and a good one at that. I can see him running the offense on day 1. Idzik is completely useless and/or trying to design an offense that works with BY at QB is something he is just not able to accomplish. Either way, I don’t see Idzik on the team in 2027. There is nothing gained with his input at this time. If 2026 goes to ish and Canales is fired mid-season, Bevell is a logical choice to assume head coaching duties. Had Bevell not been hired, that duty would go to Evero, who would possibly refuse to do so, or Idzik who is a big 4 thumbs down. -
Blowing out the Bulls in Chicago is always nice. Looks like Coby White is going to fit in here nicely.

Great now we have to hear about not handing it off to Marshawn Lynch… -

Played w/ Evero in Denver in '22. This one makes sense if the price is right. Then go Oline, ILB, Oline in the draft. Morgan has yet to draft an offensive lineman. Crazy. -

Started looking into a few guys and im falling in love with the Clemson guys. Parker or Woods would be major upgrades to the DL. -
The first sign of a coach on the hot seat and under pressure to improve next season.

Team is so fun when they turn it on. Brandon was trying to troll us last night with all the turnovers but we still turned it on. Colby brings that energy to the floor that was missing when Melo was resting so that's nice. Also those two can play together. Please no more Sion at the point because it kills momentum (unless game is a blow out of course). Kon plays like the most mature rookie I've seen. Makes vet moves. And he's just so consistent to balance out Melo and Miller when they are having off nights. Overall the team is just fun and plays hard. Grant and Green really stepped it up the last few weeks too. I was impressed by PJ Hall the previous four games as well. You can tell the team really feels like they can beat anyone, any night.

Chubb makes too much sense. So, it likely won't happen. But here's to hoping. -

Canales isn't McVay or Reid, so glad to see the change being made. Is Idzik the right guy? Probably not, but I like that they're at least doing it. Canales can still have input on the game plan, but he was overwhelmed once the script was over. -
