Couple of things to consider with the recent love from PFF: Eric Eager, the current Panthers' VP of Football Analytics, is a former writer and data scientist for PFF. The team has had seven consecutive losing seasons, so the fanbase is eager for any uplifting news. It's the offseason, so football writers are going to be diving into the numbers from last season to create speculative pieces to drive engagement during the offseason. Being hesitant to trust stats like BTT% but not TWP% might be less an issue with PFF and more of an issue with something else.

Honestly, it would haver been difficult for any WR to look that good with the type of rookie mini camp we held anyways, really it was either look bad or just look normal. At least from what we saw, there weren't any 1 on 1 drills like other teams did where a WR could have made a nice catch or beat a DB, it was just a bunch of running against air on very basic routes. You can certainly look bad if your routes/cuts aren't crisp or you drop some passes, but in a setting like that it's really hard for any player to stand out and look great unless the QB is making some terrible throws and they make some wild catches. With these type of RC MC's, DL can look good if they're firing through the drills and QB's can look good with their passing, most other positions you can really only look bad if anything stands out. Once they get into OTA's we'll be able to start to see some players standing out more.

I wasn't under the impression Williams was coaching the power play. Is he? Has that been reported as fact?

I loved J Willy as a Cane but based on the on-ice results, maybe its time to look elsewhere.

Maurice coached RBA for years, he knows him well. RBA needs some different voices around him.

Florida is the only team that would be doing that to us, and it happens when we are down Chatty, Walker isn't 100% and our top players are being molested in plain view on the ice. Florida is bigger and just as fast as we are, they have the two biggest agitating arseholes in the NHL in Marchand and Tkachuk, have a solid coach and a lot of nice pieces that make that team the best in the East by a good margin this year and possibly back to back Cup champions. I fail to mention Zito who has been aggressive in getting Marchand and Seth Jones plus other players at the deadline to fill in any weaknesses. We have taken the long term, we have a shot every year approach and keep coming up short. This is the summer to come away with the last needed pieces and if that takes sacrificing some prospects and picks we have to do it. We have Freddie who is a very good goalie, but I still think young Kooch needs more time - he shows flashes but he still isn't right between the ears yet. This is definitely it for Orlov, not sure about Burns although he has looked it the last half of the season. It would be nice to be able to get rid of KK somehow. Svech has never become the guy I thought he'd be so a pure scorer would be nice. I still like where this organization is EVEN with RBA coaching. Do we discredit everything the guy has done in years where we weren't supposed to make the playoffs let alone win some series etc?? We need a bit more size, but I like we added Walker, Carrier, and Robinson who all had some good experience and didn't mind showing some grit. Who's Back: Forwards: Aho, Svech, Jarvy, Blake, Hall, Carrier, Staal, Marty, Stankoven (need to sign to a bridge at least), KK (really need to trade him this summer or next year for sure, his NMC kicks in 26-27) Defensemen: Slavin, Walker, Chatty, Ghost, Nikishin, Morrow Goalies: Freddy, Koochy Potential: Forwards: Nadeau (he was like a -20 in Chicago so he'll have to really earn Rod's trust), Robidas, FUS didn't have a great season, Bring back Roslovic?, Jost for cheap?? Defensemen: Technically Nikishin and Morrow, but I have them replacing Orlov and Burns above, Honka, Probably will sign one who plays good D and doesn't break the bank Goalies: Khazheyev?, Sign one possibly?? tl;dr: Bottom line is we are definitely going to need to sign a Defenseman or two, and 2-3 Forwards with 2 being scorers and hopefully taller than 6'0". We have really good depth at forward, we are thinning out at D, and our goalies.....I am just not sure.

You never really know when a team is going to turn a corner and make a deep playoff run. I say take a swing, this could be like Tillman in 2015

I am still not really a fan of bashing your team when they have OVERACHIEVED this season. Before the season started I think most of us would agree that we would be surprised and pretty happy with an ECF appearance (and even though the Big Lady is warming up, it's not done till she hits that first note). This team took us further than I would have ever thought, I even had expectations of us possibly missing the playoffs so hats off to our guys. Florida is a solid team and got much better at the trade deadline, we didn't although I'd say losing pouty ass Ratanen was a win.

Nah. He's a guy you bring in when you are one player away from a deep playoff run. Or you have a team that can make a deep playoff run, but have gotten sideways at just one position.

Yea we need a legit power play coach at a minimum. It's fine if Rod's not an X's an O's guy, but we need a good one if that's the case.

Just force him to make bench changes and fire some of his staff. He will refuse and resign from being the head coach.

I feel like the owner will give Rod one more season. I don’t agree with it, but I have a feeling that is how it will play out. That said sometimes firing a coach that has failed in the playoffs time and time again can occasionally give the team a boost when the new coach comes it and takes them to the promised land. Even if Rod somehow says he needs to try something different we know from past experience that is just coach talk. Like Rivera during his final season. Said during the off-season he can’t keep coaching the same way if he wants to keep his job, but once the season started he fell back into his old ways. Same thing would happen to Rod.

I have the same feeling now as I did right before the 2nd year of the John Fox era.

The love/hate relationship with PFF here over the years amuses me greatly. But I do appreciate this content. Training camp should be fun.

We will go as far as our defense carries us. While I expect the offense to be the better unit, IF our defense can get stops, turnovers, giving our offense short fields, this team will absolutely be dangerous.
