  1. You're missing the point. I'm not saying getting it right is easy. You're saying there's no QB worthy of giving up picks in this draft class. That's not a certainty any more than trading 3 1sts will net you a franchise QB. Being able to identify talent, determine if he will fit into the system you are building/built, and acquiring that talent are key factors. I gave 4 examples of guys who weren't considered generational QBs coming out of college, but now are considered franchise cornerstones in the last 5 years. Every one of those guys would be the 1st pick of a draft and a GM would be congratulated for getting one for 3 1sts. 3 or 4 years from now you'll be able to say there were or were not any generational talents at QB in this draft. Right now, it's too early to make that call and it's just stupid to say that you know how good their careers will be before they play one snap in the NFL.
  2. How about Lamar Jackson or Jalen Hurts? It doesn't matter if there is a generational talent at QB. Picks are irrelevant if you get it right. If you give up 3 1sts and get your QB for the next 15, you win. To say you should fire a guy because he trades up because you don't think there is a "generational talent" is asinine.
  3. There doesn't have to be a generational guy to trade up. Those are very rare. It's about finding a QB who can be developed and turned into an above average QB because that's about the best you can realistically expect. If we traded 3 1sts and ended up with the next Allen or Mahomes, should he be fired because neither of those were considered generational talents. The right system, the right coach, the right offense make such a huge difference it's not on the QB alone.
  4. Darnold could be a functional backup. But it would take an OC that is actually capable of game planning to what he can do. He's not someone I would want starting every game, but having him for an occasional fill in, why not for the right money. Am I saying I don't want better? Absolutely not. As a QB 2/3 going into camp with a new HC and creative OC, I'd be ok with it and let the chips fall where they may.
  5. I'm not so sure how else to see it other than he's blindly hitting every button. Keeping floundering Hurney 2.0 to lead new coach selection Hiring a college coach to a massive contract that never beat a ranked opponent Letting said college coach bring an almost entirely college staff to run the team Giving zero NFL experience coach GM level control - 5 QBs in 3 years not even factoring in the cost Keeping college coach after year 2 of abject miserable failure Taking away the franchise and fan base mantra Keep Pounding only to replace it with "The Brand". Installing college mentality to professional football. Stadium debacle Panthers HQ debacle I don't know how you can look at were we are as a franchise right now and say a monkey pushing buttons couldn't have accomplished the same or more.
  6. And then there's the 3rd group that sees pretty clearly we're making the same mistakes over and over again, and are frustrated beyond words that other people just don't see it. The biggest problems with this team have been owner, GM and HC. If you haven't been able to put together back to back winning seasons in almost 30 years, it's time to change. The 80s Bears defense is gone in the NFL. The NFL caters to high powered offense because it's more exciting. More excitement means more revenue from fans, advertising, fantasy football, and gambling. This franchise needs to pull its head out of its ass and storm into the new NFL. If it doesn't, it's going to be a long fuging time before we see any meaningful football played in Carolina.
  7. Of course he did. He was hired to help Matt Rhule with his vision. But do you honestly think after last season that he thought keeping Rhule was the right move because I damn sure don't. Anyone with any football acumen at all knew Rhule's brand was all BS. Tepper is Fitts boss and he did what he was told to do just like every other person on the Huddle would have when the big boss tells you to. Tepper is the problem. Fitts could very well be too, but until he's allowed to actually do his job without the interference of a guy that has clearly shown he knows squat about running a football team, we won't really know. Blame Fitts all you want, but the real problem is the guy that kept Marty Hurney, hired Matt Rhule and an entire college staff to run an NFL team and personel decisions, piss of an entire fan base to create "the brand", and keep Rhule an entire offseason when even the lowliest of fans knew it was a colossal mistake. Tepper has made it clear he's going to be significantly involved in deciding who the next leader of this team is. But hey, if David Tepper was paying you millions of dollars you'd tell him to fug off because you're not a yes man.
  8. We need new weapons but we need someone who has at least some small idea how to use them first. Doesn't matter how big of a cannon you have if your offense is all bottle rockets.
  9. Trubisky is a backup that was benched for an unprepared rookie because he was playing so poorly. Neither one are guys you want to rely on, but the loss today was far less Sam than anyone else.
  10. For a division that bad they should. I can't even imagine being 12-5 and watching a 6-11 team host a game because they were the least smelly turd in the bowl.
  11. This is the first time this year Trubisky looked like an NFL QB. Our defense was flat out abused and our vaunted run blocking OL looked like the 3 stooges.
  12. The most important game of the season to this point and the team looks unprepared, unmotivated, and flat out terrible. Sorry, it's over. Great feel good story but proof is in the results and the results are this team is still ass.
  13. Burns is no Bosa, Watt, Miller, or Mack. No need to pay him like one.
  14. He probably got hammered before the game. I would have if I had to watch this in person.
  15. I picked up Carolina's D this week in fantasy because Trubisky was starting. Oy Vey.
  16. For every Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Sting, or Rick Flair, there has to be a Barry Horowitz. Yes, I'm that old I remember the first Wrestlemania. The NFL is an entertainment company and has shown over and over again, it creates a product and will do whatever it needs to do to keep the popular storylines going. We see it every week with the wild variations in penalties and other questionable calls that change the momentum and outcomes of games. It's become so common now you can expect 10-15 of these calls a week across the league. The NFL will protect its interests. It's why I still firmly believe the NFL was never going to let an upstart young team led by a highly energetic and vivacious QB ruin the finale of one of the most cerebral QBs to ever play the game. Payton finishing 1-3 in the big game would have ruined his legacy.
  17. The guy is in a good situation with pro bowl TE, all pro RB, and on offensive genius running the show. He's doing what's asked of him. He may be the future, he may not. For now, he looks better than the guy they gave up 3 1sts to get.
  18. Pretty bad when the NFL is just an entertainment company and they keep trotting this crap out. Why not just let the refs throw a guy in a figure 4 or drop an elbow every now and then. It'd be about as legit as what we're seeing now.
  19. In order to get paid more than an average running back, you need to be able to do more in an offense built around using all a RB talents like CMC in SF. We don't have that here. Would need to see some massive upgrades at the OC position to consider paying him more than JAG salary. I'd have no issue giving him a 3 year contract for 3-4m per if he was used like CMC, Ekeler, Saquan, or others in the passing game, but he's not. Alexander Mattison is someone I would rather target if we were going to spend money on a RB, and even then it would be 2 or 3 year at 2.5-3.
  20. This whole scenario depends on who else is available in FA. If it's Wentz, Grier, or some random 3rd string QB, you have to consider re-signing Darnold on a backup contract. PJ Walker cannot be the plan, or someone of his caliber if our rookie QB or MC go down or aren't ready. Minshew would be my choice if we're going that route, but there's way too many factors right now to really choose a path.
  21. We need an offensive mind. This franchise has had a DC leading the way aside from Rhule who was just BS and we've never had back to back winning seasons. Something has to change and it needs to start by putting someone in charge whose primary focus is offense in an offense driven league.
  22. I'm not opposed to it only because I think we need a backup with more than PJ has to offer. That said, I don't think Cam would come back under these circumstances.
  23. Rhule also killed the environment for 99% of the fan base as well.
  24. I'm all in because it wouldn't matter if I wasn't. I also realize that this off-season is the key and getting the HC, DC and especially OC correct are going to be the key to success moving forward. It wouldn’t matter if we had the 1st, 2nd and 3rd pick this year with a coach like Rhule at the helm. We have to get this right or it's another 3-5 years of purgatory.
