I'm suspecting Hoskins is #71. I remember watching and literally said damn he's quick at one point. I'd be suprised if he doesnt get more looks against better comp.
-
⁵Good debut for what it was. I dont know how much of the returns are concrete. I do think Marshall would translate no matter the class of competition. Phil Hoskins was pretty good also. Chubba has some explosion to his step. That said, it was an impressive draft class premiere. Only gripes this game was the from the left side of the oline, run defense and mlb. Fisher did some work today too, I just wish he was a little faster.

I gotta say...Darnold has sneaky speed. I'd say "almost" as fast as PJ Walker. I wouldnt say you have to use that speed but it would be to his advantage. I promise you he's taking off during the reg. season anyway at some point. I just hope he's taking off because of what he see's and not because its his only chance at survival. RPO's ... idunno ...breakdown runs ...YES

Carolina Panthers Biggest Draft Busts(Top 3 Rounds)
ColumbusCounty replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
1. Armanti Edwards ...waste of time and draft capital. Think of converting a lesser version of Russel Wilson to WR. 2. Dwayne Jarrett ... smdh I wanna say Grier but it may be too early. I'd still take Clausen over him at this point in career. That said... #3: Jimmy Clausen ...+ we tried to trade into the back end of the first for this guy. I've atleast seen him throw a few catchable balls. -
That's just it, he's been damn near dominant since he first touched a football. High School: #1 rated Offensive lineman in the entire country. Under Armour, Max Prep and USA Today All American. #2 overall ranked football player. 5 star recruit. College: First team All-SEC, Countless 2nd Team All American accomplishments throughout his 3 years. 5 sacks allowed in well over 1,000 snaps. NFL: ............... lol I understand the NFL is a faster, more physical and athletic situation but I dont even think I can recall seeing a flash of potential from Little. It's frustatrating to think about. Hopefully something clicks..and fast. I will say he isnt the first to excel at every level then bomb in the pro's but it sucks for us. We've wanted a left tackle since Gross retired and when finally picked one we got Little. <-- pun intended. It could simply boil down to a lack of multiple things. Playbook grasp, mental elements, physical limitations, fear, not trusting his coaching, lack of film study etc..

There's the answer I was looking for.

As crazy as this may sound: A. This is the type of dude you cut then three years down the line he becomes Pro Bowl caliber out of nowhere. B. Givin Hurney's first round hit rate I find hard to believe he was actually trying to find a trade partner to get this guy. Luckily he didnt. Early returns are beyond poor but I guess he still has room to greatly improve. C. If we cut him, he's going to the WFT. Zero doubt in my mind. D. If his primary problem is speed rushers, again couldn't we just begin transitioning him to LG instead of LT. I'd rather force that instead of forcing him on the blindside. E. Could be worse... actually would have bet money that he was 3rd string or below. Obviously they are mixing up the lineups to see what works. Thing is, I wouldn't even consider Little in the top 5 of possible options at left tackles on this team. F. I guarantee you Will Grier is dreading those preseason games. I kind of feel for him. To make matters worse, two of those teams we face are scheduled for joint practices. Weakness identified.

Madden 22 ranks panthers second worst team in the league

Well technically, at one point I think we had.. Oher-Norwell-Kalil-Turner-D.Williams.. Oher-Free Agency Turner-3rd round Ryan Kalil- We already know Darryl Williams- 4th-5th round I believe Norwell-Undrafted .. Wouldnt really say we drafted poorly on Oline except for Lee Ziemba (7th), Edmond Kugbila (4th), Little (2nd) (who still has a chance but was last seen as very underwhelming). Its the lack of Oline picks that hurt us. In the last 10 years and out of 70 picks(estimate for argument sake), we've probably picked maybe 7-8 olineman....if that. The safety position possibly even less. Maybe its a just ironic that those two positions have been a weakness almost every season. Maybe my numbers and memories are off but for some reason we dont typically spend alot of draft capital on the Oline. Which is crazy once you consider that our offensive line is almost half of our offensive starters. We have to figure it out though, our seasons depends on it. Without time Darnold will have a rough year and 6 to 8 wins would be our ceiling. With time, this could end up being a double digit win season.

Any word on Christian Miller
ColumbusCounty replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
With our Reddick signing ... Miller makes more sense to make the team. Depth is kinda thin anyway....we probably keep 6-7 Shaq, Perryman, Reddick, Carter Jr. Miller, Luvu, Stanford.. Paddy Fisher to PS . There you have it. -
Yea thats pretty much never been in question. He put up horrible combine numbers so I'd expect his RAS score to reflect that. Josh Norman had a similar grade but was also able to develop into an All Pro at one point. Having elite athleticism is always a plus but it wont guarantee success. Just like having a cannon for an arm wont guarantee you a starting spot at QB. I will say that some sort of athleticism is absolutely required to compete in the NFL at a high level...esp at WR. But don't let that RAS score fool you into thinking Bayless cant compete with Marshall. Unless we're talking about a foot race. Side Note: I was not aware that Jeremy Chinn scored a perfect 10. Probably the highest score of that entire 2020 class. Hurts my argument here but I'm just glad we made that pick.

Quite a few people have underrated Marshall's game. That's kinda been the story even in college. If you Youtube or Google him, you'll probably see "underrated", "sleeper", "best you never heard of", etc. He "should" make this roster. Unless injury or his knee acts up again. This guy is a beast of a receiver who I only think would get better. College isnt the NFL but his previous accomplishments are noteable. He's just not a blazer. His last season alone: Top 2 in FBS yardage(second only to Ja'marr Chase: under 200 yards)...most TD's in Arkansas State and Sun Belt history. Most receiving yardage in A-State and Sun Belt history.. 7 games over 100 yards...AP All American...Walter Camp All American ...Sporting news All American... Biletnikoff semi-finalist..Sun Belt POTY. With all do respect, T Marshall is a beast in his own right. BUT IMO Bayless and Marshall are extremely similar. With Marshall being slighty faster with more agility, and change of direction ability. I think Bayless has better body control. Both have actually have good hands and Terrace has the height & speed advantage. 6'1 vs 6'4 iirc. I do wonder, if you were to switch LSU to Bayless and A-State with Marshall would the results change. LSU would have statistically had the top 3 Wr's in college that year. Chase, Bayless, and Jefferson (in that order) assuming production stayed the same. Would Marshall be a undrafted ? Just thinking out loud. If the above was the case though, it is extremely possible both would have been Panther's anyway. WR cuts might catch a few off guard this year.

Panthers pass-rush grade rankings over L3 seasons
ColumbusCounty replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
If you think about the starters + the rotation and role players ....we have the chance to be dominate..literally. One could argue our depth even have that overacheiving potential. In fact, one could argue a mix of our second and third string would outperform our 2011 starters... Johnson(9 sacks)-Mcclain-Fua-Applewhite/Hardy(4) Vs.. Haynes/Miller-Daviyon-Braviyon-YGM/Fox Am I crazy???..Maybe its the optimism ... but I do know our backups haven't been this good in a while. 2011 was all CJ...this was before Hardy became the double digit Hardy and Applewhite played great 1 game then turned into Weatherly. Mcclain got somewhat better when he left here and Fua was trash. Haynes is on an incline(look for him to make a name this year). Fox is Fox, inside & outside dependable, Daviyon was the 3rd best DT out of college this year IMO and our biggest steal of the draft. YGM has a very high ceiling, something alot of fans forget. And Miller is your wildcard...but a wildcard that probably has the 2nd or 3rd best bend around the corner on the team. -
Damn, I would have lost money betting he had more career INT's. Lol, In one game Luke had two of 'em in about a 5 minute span iirc (vs Romo). Then again, Luke isn't the guy you want to compare against. Shaq isn't a bad player either he's actually slightly above average but keeping in mimd his draft spot and current contract, I am and have been expecting more. Stats dont always show the full impact a player can make on the field but five pass breakups, one interception 5 years ago seasons, 0 sacks last season ...70+ completion rate when targeted...damn near Whitehead numbers. To his credit he did have two forced fumbles, 100+ tackles and prior to last season was halfway decent when he was called to blitz. I personally like him because he's athletic and physical. Maybe he's playing out of position. All that said, I still think Snow has something to work with. Hopefully the additions we've added this offseason will be to his benefit.

Who Will Be Panthers Biggest 2021 Sleeper?
ColumbusCounty replied to KatsAzz's topic in Carolina Panthers
Hands down: DaQuan Jones. The more suprising pick would be: Jermaine Carter Jr ..if he gets enough playing time. -
First if all, it's too early for this imo but I am glad to see our players getting recognition. This is just one guy's take on what should have happened that night but I thought it was interesting. Our FO did a great job on early returns and hopefully the 2021 holds the same success. I honestly didn't expect to see YGM up there as I thought he flew under the radar last season. Pretty sure you could guess the other two. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/redrafting-the-2020-nfl-draft-justin-herbert-picked-by-bengals-justin-jefferson-lands-with-lions/

This. I said a while back, Paradis is almost at the end of his Panthers stint. First thought when we signed Pat was depth/fringe starter at G with upside and flexibility to become Paradis insurance. Rimington award winner, Outland finalist, etc.. I think Moore has nothing but upside at the center position. Still have no idea how he wasnt drafted. P.S. I'm thinking Little is all but cut unless he shows up to camp playing like the second coming of Oher.
-
If he can continue to bulk up while maintaining speed..smdh. A bullrush paired with that would almost be impossible to contain. To think, I didn't want us to touch him because of Everrette Brown and his 1k spins. I wanted Sweat or Gary at the time iirc...glad I was wrong. Dude has swiftly became my favorite player on this defense since Luke left.
-
I wouldn't forget about Omar Bayless either. From the articles of camp last year I pretty much figured he was a lock to make the team before his injury. That said, his college production was insane too and at one point dude was #1 in receiving yards and tied for the most touchdowns in the NCAA. Mind you, this is the same year of the Chase, Jefferson, and Marshall show at LSU. Difference in competition but he dominated the Sun-Belt .. yet ... he still went undrafted. Here it's a numbers game. I'm just glad we got the comp & depth. We've come along way from Funchess and Philly Brown. I do think Shi makes it over Micah Simon (who reminds me of Samuel btw). But I think we could stash him on the practice squad.
-
Around 19 per for a RT????
-
Yea ..I'd agree. Hell if he didnt happen to come out the same year as Chase Young, one could argue he probably would have been the first DE off the board last year. I honestly thought he was/is better than Chaisson. That lawsuit and Penn State forcing him to play DT at times didn't do him any favors. If Jones and/or Fox can atleast duplicate Kerr's success.. we will be dominant, all things considered.
-
From what I remember Pride subbed in for Donte as his toe issues lingered. Strictly CB iirc, but with Snow who know's. I wouldn't think the Ha Ha signing had anything to do with Pride. Probably more of a statement towards Burris and Robinson, or the depth after Burris. I do like where this secondary is headed though. I havent been able to honestly say that in a long time.

Moton taking snaps at left tackle...
ColumbusCounty replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I always thought it was Ron but when Dave was mentioned I literally pictured him sitting at that press table saying it. Mandela effect. Appreciate the confirmation though.
