  1. Well, clearly Miami believes in Tua. Hope they don't regret it.
  2. Well Joe, hopefully you don't get hurt again. Best of luck.
  3. Get Fitts on the phone. Sign The Golden Calf of Bristol. Trade him to the Jags for their first rounder this year. Yes, my proposal is just as silly as The Golden Calf of Bristol coming back at all. If we're going to be ridiculous, we may as well go all out.
  4. I do actually wonder if there is something to it. Is turf an advantage? Thinking in terms of the regular season setting up the post season. Do teams that play on turf win / have a better record in the regular season, smoothing their post season path? I don't know, just thinking out loud.
  5. Where on earth did we get another QB? I thought all we had was Darnold, PJ and Grier . . . Oh, you meant Darnold? He has not proven to anyone that's he's an upgrade over TB5. He ranked 36th among starting QB's last year. Seven spots lower than TB5 in 29th.
  6. He already is a 1000 yard receiver . . . he'll be a consistent all pro with a good QB.
  7. So, you're saying all of the great ones figured it out by year three. Gotcha. So we need a QB. The problem with looking at "records" is that it doesn't necessarily tell you how they played. You have to dig deeper than win/loss. You need to identify QB's who were statistically similar their first three years to Darnold, then show franchise level improvement the next two. Go ahead. We'll wait.
  8. I'd actually take his word on a QB before Mel Kiper . . . so there's that.
  9. The fact that you are ready to lay a wreath at the feet of Eli isn't exactly covering you with in depth analysis kudos either neighbor. The legend of Eli really sorta comes down to this: Lets face it: Eli won those games because Coughlin managed to stop Brady.
  10. Well, I guess you could say the Jets haven't been the best at evaluating QB's. So, from the 49er's perspective, do you really want to name your guy and have the Jets snag him? It would be just about the most Jets thing that could happen. Is it actually 4D chess? The 49ers smokescreening people away from Mac Jones to make someone else take him? I dunno, it's the lying season for sure. I can't fathom Mac Jones at 3. But I couldn't fathom Trubisky at 2 either.
  11. I don't think you remember the draft correctly. For example, this profile shows Prescott as a 6th round grade. The article was written BEFORE the DUI. In this profile, he's listed as a third round prospect, AFTER the DUI happened. DUI aside, he was viewed as wildly inconsistent by most draft scouts. This is not something you're looking for in a prospect. I've seen draft projections for him from the second round to the sixth. He fell right in the middle. In fact, he fell right in the middle of the 15 QB's drafted that year. Dak's college production and game tape put him in the middle rounds of the draft, and that's where he went. Mac Jones college production SERIOUSLY overshadowed Dak's. I mean, I am not a Jones fan, but let's face it . . . the guy lost two games in his CAREER.
  12. Dak should not be your comparison there. The two are nothing alike. Dak didn't even lead the SEC in passing his last year in college. In fact, a much closer comparison for Dak was The Golden Calf of Bristol . . . and no one wanted another one of those. Dak was a less accomplished version of The Golden Calf of Bristol in the end. I think Dak was hurt far more by where he went to school. As a Miss State fan, I hurts to say it, but the school isn't exactly known for turning out NFL talent. Sure, they have a few here and there, but nothing like Florida or Alabama.
  13. Not sure how this makes sense . . . Tua is left handed. To the Dolphins, RT is the "money" spot. Why would they fill that spot with a FA? All of this sounds like 2 + 2 = 6.327 . . . something doesn't add up here.
  14. I'm sorry. There is NO WAY we trade out of #8 with Lance, Fields and Slater still on the board.
  15. The thing you're not thinking of is that Darnold already has two strikes against him. I grant you a world of "But the Jets". However, consider what we'd be saying if Darnold was at (pretty much) any other club. "Failure". Do you want to bet your franchise on a guy one strike from being labeled a failure? I don't! That's why I am 100% ok with drafting a QB if one we like is there - in whatever round. I hope Darnold succeeds, but hope isn't something you should base your franchise around. TB5, Grier and PJ are not valid fallback plans. We know who they are and it's not NFL QB's.
  16. JT is pretty thorough when you're looking at just film study. He's very open about the fact he hasn't actually talked to any of the prospects and bases his opinion purely on the film. He'd probably make a pretty darn good QB coach if he wanted to go that route.
  17. Feel bad for Smith. He's a guy who did the best he could with what he had. As far as WTF, I hope they reap what they sow.
  18. I would be over the moon if we manage to land another Jordan Gross. We all liked Jordan when he was here, but when he retired is when we really realized just how GOOD he was. LT just wasn't a thought during his career. It was just "handled".
  19. That's what I'm thinking. I don't blame us for taking a shot, the cost was (relatively for a QB) minimal. I do think there were better players to take a shot on. I know lots of people say "but NY screwed him" . . . and maybe so. But probably not. Look at the comparable situations. Mark Sanchez . . . looks eerily similar to Darnold. High draft pick, low games played in college - at USC no less. Actually took care of the ball pretty good in college, but clearly couldn't figure it out in the NFL. Left NY, no change. Still bad. Chad Pennington . . . actually had one good season in NY . . . but never made it. Another high pick in NY. Left NY and never fully put it together. You could argue his best season was his third in NY. Geno Smith? Not drafted first round. Another failed QB in NYC. I'm afraid that the problem is that no one up there knows how to evaluate a QB. And we now bought in to that problem. He's our QB, I'll certainly root for him to put it together. But I also have no problem seeing us take a rookie if one we like drops to us.
