Eric Davis: "Draft a big large human being"

What's missing in Carolina?

"You draft a big large human being if he's available.  I wouldn't draft a skill position guy early unless he is a freak of nature.  You get down to the 28th pick, I don't know if you're going after the freaks of nature at that time.  I'm gonna go with the big body.  You can't teach a guy how to grow to be 6'6, 6'7, 300 pounds.  You just can't teach that, so I'm gonna find that guy if he's there.  They need a tackle."

Davis also points out that outside of Smith, the receiving corps we're replacing wasn't exactly "lighting it up", so he believes that we can find wide receivers that can match that production without using our top pick.  He actually thinks our need at corner is greater than our need at receiver right now.

Mind you, Davis is a defensive guy.  He is also one of the smartest players to ever play for the Panthers.

This is also the same segment where Shawne Merriman says if he were facing Carolina he'd stack the box and force Cam to beat him with his arm.  Davis tells him if you try to make him do that, he will.  He in fact goes further to say that if you give Newton man coverage all day that he will "light you up".  Pretty clear davis puts more faith in Newton than the other panelists.

The full video is worth a watch.

That sounds about right. However, we should be trying to do more than match WR production. Also, we might not want to risk grabbing someone with questions and red flags. (Cyrus knee) Like we have said all along, it will all depend on the first 27 picks. You never know who will be there, and we dont know where everyone is on the Panthers' BPA board. We shall see, but good points.

    • Ohio State no. 8 won it all last year.  No. 6 Penn State and no. 7 Notre Dame advanced to the semi-final. This year no. 7 Ole Miss is going to win it all.
    • agreed.  Lack of games/opportunity makes him a non-factor in OROTY talk.  He is just now getting the stage where there is legit film on him.  Takes awhile to really see how guys react to all the different scenarios and to find the real weak spots on a QB's play in an O.
    • Oh boy how the tables have turned...the passion and extent at which you defend Shough would make even the staunchest Bryce fanboys blush.  The bold part is especially straight from their playbook.  Even if someone here were to withhold giving Shough props, it's pretty understandable as a Panthers fan.  What's quite odd is becoming the biggest stan of our most hated rival's starting QB.  I don't think even Saints fans drool over him this hard. For the record I think this talk about "stans" and "fanboys" is cringe AF and I'm admittedly being rather hyperbolic because this is exactly the kind of discourse and language you personally love to engage in and it's fun to play in the mud from time to time.  There is absolutely no world where you do not meet your own criteria of a "Super Stan" for Shough with how loosely you apply that label to people for Bryce in here.  You're like the Final Boss of Super Stans.
