Charles Godfrey Takes Large PAYCUT

Restructure is not the same as an outright pay cut. Players do not lose money, they get more of it upfront.

No indication (yet) as to whether anything was converted into a signing bonus, we'll see though.

That's how much he can earn back total, per game would be insane.

This looks like a pay cut.

Godfrey had zero leverage in the deal.  Gettlemen isn't stupid.

He basically is a veteran minimum free agent signing.

Good move.  Better than just cutting him IMO.

Could still end up a starter.  He was very much improved before he got hurt.

Godfrey, unlike most restructures was in a very weak position. he could have cut him and saved about the same, we pretty much told him, restructure or be cut.

PFT says Paycut

The latest is safety Charles Godfrey. According to Field Yates of ESPN.com, Godfrey has taken a massive pay cut, dropping his base salary from $5 million to $750,000. He can still make $1.7 million of it back in per-game bonuses.

Well that changes everything. I'm certainly good with that. We've got enough money tied up in the future.

I did not realize it was a pay cut. First it was listed in the thread as a restructure.

    • After last season, it was the same question. And the answer most people came to was "If he doesn't make the playoffs, he's gone." He made the playoffs. No matter how it was done, we made it to the playoffs. He's safe. He's going to have a chance to keep working this out, even if next season isn't a playoff one.  I think we'll do better next year than we did this season. There's something being built here.
    • The NBA is a very fickle league. Kon is one of the hottest rookies in years and beyond just his play on the court he is a very steady competitor and that translates to the rest of the team. That has been a glaring absence with the culture of this franchise through the bulk of the LaMelo Ball years that's just being completely blunt and realistic. The enigma of LaMelo Ball is he is entering year 6 and still either red hot or ice cold. We need him to find that sweet spot. Logic dictates the Hornets will want to see this core again next year. But the clock is beyond ticking at this point. It's put up or shut up. Especially considering what the Thunder managed to do recently. I'm hopeful they can keep these wins rolling in and get some much needed playoff experience under their belts which will help substantially.
    • I think as long as the Panthers are competitive with Canales they should keep him. Pepper needs to repair his/the teams image as a place prized free agents aren't hesitant to consider. Just dont do any crazy poo for a few years.
