What would you do if you were the Texans?

Clowney could have come out of highschool and been a starter in the NFL.  Freaks like him don't come around often.

His ceiling is GOAT, his floor is somewhere around Peppers.

It's probably worth the risk.  I'm glad we don't have to make the decision though.

No one actually believes that Clowney could've gone from HS senior to NFL starter.  The kid would've gotten CRUSHED.  There is no one at the HS level who is ready to physically compete in the trenches at the NFL level.

His floor is Peppers?  You cannot possibly be serious.

I'd be really surprised if they drafted Carr because of the bust his brother was with the Texans.

they know the biggest reason he was a "bust" was they did nothing to protect him. he was good and productive, but he got sacked a million times and spent most of his career in fear for his life. he was shell shocked and very damaged goods by the tike he got to us and the one thing he needed was a year or two on the sidelines to recover, which was the plan here but then tommy jone happened.

Houston appears to be on the verge of trading for Mallett.  Scratch QB off the list.

that's not a serious step towards getting your franchise QB.

i wouldn't scratxh QB off the list for mallett. if they do that, they deserve to pick in the top 10 for a few more years.

Yeah, I agree, they handled that situation horribly. Still couldn't see them taking him because of that, though.

i think he has talent but when he actually gets blocked by NFL OL his dominance will not be so obvious.

You don't say?

That is the difference between potential and effort.

It's been reported from multiple outlets that every team in the top 5 believes the "effort" stigma surrounding Clowney is complete nonsense.

Maybe he can go to the Texans and be shown what's Watt and learn something.

I see what you did there.

Yeah, but I doubt they would draft a QB with Mallett and Fitzpatrick on the roster.

Hmmm... interesting.  I guess the Texans aren't worried about trading for a guy who NE selected to be their QB of the future and is now willing to trade him two years later when Tom Brady is 36.  I know Brady has talked about playing until he's 40, but every athlete is playing on borrowed time at 36.

they didn't draft him as a potential replacement, from what i remember reading. they did it solely for later potential trade value down the road.

it was just a case of him being supposedly the bpa at that pick, but they had no plans to actually keep him long term.

but your point still stands.

Well, in that case it looks like they played their cards perfectly.  I wonder what they'll end up getting out of the Texans for him?
