Immediate thoughts vs more rational thinking.

Your immediate reaction on Ealy was right. Benjamin 6'5 with Robinson 6'2 could have been nightmare with a QB like Cam. Too much insurance policy on the DL. The good thing about Ealy is we have no mobile QB in our division so we can feast. That's the only positive I can find with the Ealy pick.

If we could trade down today to get Bryant I would be a happier fan.

Another GM could have easily thought the same way.Such as the Jags GM who picked up Lee and Robinson to help their new QB out.

The Eagles did it too. They took Matthews and Huff.

Still would have been my preferred choice too but instead of being pissed off about decisions I have no control over, I figured I'd try and understand why it makes sense.

Gettleman got us to 12-4 last year and a lot of that was due to GMan solidifying the DT position for the next decade (barring injury), while finding excellent value in pre and post draft free agency. Until proven otherwise, the guy knows what he's doing and has shown he can find quality players anywhere. Cam now has a big target on the outside to throw to, the D-line is going to be downright nasty with Ealy, who could probably start day 1 for about half the teams in the league, and we help out our run game with a kid who's athletic and powerful and not done maturing physically. Great draft so far.

Why is disliking a pick seen as irrational?

I still dislike taking him over Allen Robinson.

Very similar to the way I felt about us taking KK over Keenan Allen last year. At the time I thought it was a monumental mistake. I still think we would be a better, more balanced team with Keenan but I don't hate the pick anymore. I am on board with it and think it was a good one just not my favorite choice. Hoping this pans out the same way.

Sorry for the DP but just to add some additional thoughts:

I like the direction GMan is heading. He said he wants hog mollies and TD scorers. Benjamin embodies both. He has the potential to bully most NFL CBs and matchup with the Richard Sherman's of the NFL.

Ealy can play inside or out. He makes the D-line even better and gives us a starting caliber DE to rotate in. More depth = less worry about guys getting gassed.

Turner has all the tools to develop into an elite guard. He immediately improves the run game which will take the pressure off Cam, put the opposing defense on their heels, and give the defense time to rest. And if opponents decide to load the box, Benjamin is lurking on the outside to feast on the poor corner that he's left 1 on 1 with.

The Ealy pick threw a lot of people of but in time it will start making more sense especially if a situation where Hardy or CJ get hurt again like CJ last season. Hopefully this means that Hardy will stay.

We have 7 more picks in 2015.

Clearly we didn't find good enough value in OT or CB this year so we fix the problem in 2015. Now in 2015 we might get lucky and actually find a good value OT or CB. It would suck if we got a subpar OT/CB this year based on need and then next year we get a subpar DE based on need.

It is more strategic to take the high valued DE right now at pick 60. There is no point in drafting in OT/CB that cant beat out what we currently have.

Agreed, i feel like ppl want GMan to draft an OT just so they can say he did it

I just love all the opinions from folks that have never evaluated talent and folks pissing and moaning over the picks that a professional talent evaluator has made. I will trust in Gman and will bet that these guys all turn out to make a huge difference in this team.
