USA vs. Portugal

Recommended Posts

Watched the replay...

There is only one Portugal player (Varela) in the box and three U.S. players (Cameron, Johnson, and Besler).

- Johnson was initially running with Varela but stopped.

- Cameron never turned around to pick up Varela.

- Besler never drifted in even though he was looking directly at Varela.

And then it happened... CR7 put the ball right on Varela's head.

Why do they add minutes? (newbie here)

Because the game clock doesn't stop, added time is to make up for subs, injuries, etc that occurred.

Generally its 30 secs per for each sub/injury(when the medic comes on for awhile)

Four minutes of stoppage time, but then the 4th official thought Zusi was walking off too slow so added another. That's trash.

Just watched it again too. Zusi jogged off like every other soccer player in the history of the game does. The only time you see a guy sprint off is when they're pushing for a goal. That's complete garbage by FIFA, and totally unsurprising.

By those standards we should have been looking at no more than three minutes.

Yeah I know

Water break in first half ... 2 minutes stoppage time

Pretty normal second half, 4 subs, various injuries ... 5 minutes stoppage time.

Makes no sense.
