Cam Newton still limited in mobility

His ankle is completely healed, otherwise they wouldn't have cleared him for full participation weeks ago. He's played with pain in it all his career. At least it's repaired now. Instead of playing with pain in a damaged ankle he'll be playing with pain in a recovering ankle.

He's gonna be fine. He's Superman.

He actually had the surgery because of the pain.

A source tells NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that the procedure will "tighten ankle ligaments" that had been giving Newton pain since rolling the ankle in a Week 10 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

As at 3 days ago, Cam was experiencing some pain on pushoffs and pain is never a good sign.

Yet in that same article it says he is close to 100 percent.

Apparently we have our own huddle doctors now, lol. The man is still recovering. I'll take his own word over people on the internet.

Isn't that point of this thread? That he is still not 100% and whether he can be ready for TC?

Last I heard he was cleared and on track to be ready for TC. If he wasn't why did he just hold a private workout with the WR's?

2 Is Cam Newton’s ankle 100 percent?

Not yet. Newton, the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback, had surgery in March to tighten the ligaments in his left ankle. He threw to the Panthers’ receivers last week in Greensboro but was limited in his mobility.

The Panthers will try to find a balance between getting Newton the reps he needs to get his timing down with an entirely new group of receivers, while not overdoing it on the ankle.

The goal has to be getting Newton to the season opener at Tampa Bay healthy and strong.

Sounds like he will not be given the bulk of snaps he would usually get in camp if he was 100%.

No worries. Sometimes pain lingers for a while. Broke my fingers once. Doc said they were completely healed, but nerves around the injury were pretty sensitive. Hurt for a year afterward. Obviously two different injuries, but pain doesn't neslcesarily mean he's still injured

And many will be surprised when our O line proves to be unshaky. I'm all in on Chandler. Only concern is Bell at RT. Our interior line could actually be a strong unit

Come on man, a Joe Person article? Okay, I couldn't resist.

He's cleared for practice, just precautionary measures at this point, which is to be expected.

It also says that he declined an outright interview for the article.  So Person doesn't know how Cam really feels.  He is in there throwing, working, and training with his teammates with a personal Under Armour trainer.  Its like when Person gets stiff armed on a personal sound bite, he always makes small snarky remarks.  I took it as he is going through these world class Under Armour personal workouts with his teammates, but he ain't ready.  Translation, nothing to see here as I am required to write something.

This may have been answered already in March when he had the surgery but was there a reason that the surgery didn't take place immediately after the season so we wouldn't be so close to crunch time?

they were seeing if it would heal on its own.

surgery is the last measure to take and everyone tries to avoid it. The ankle's tendons didn't rebound like in years past.

First off the pain he is experiencing is likely a normal part of recovering from surgery.  He is going to have it as he continues to push himself to do more and more. Sometimes it is scar tissue breaking loose and healing.  Other times it is the fact that he has done nothing for almost 4 months so he is going to be sore and feel pain as he builds the muscle back and heals.

But it is not unexpected and doesn't mean that he is not able to play in a few weeks.  It won't be unusual to get twinges as the season unfolds and it might take another 6 months before he is totally pain free in all situations.

When I had ACL reconstruction surgery I could do every thing I needed to do at 8-10 months but it took over a year (almost 18 months) before I was pain free.
