Brenton Bersin?

I think the main reason he hasn't made it to the main roster is because the last few seasons we have been locked on our WR corps.

This season is a little different because there is fresh crop of guys eager to earn a spot and so far Bersin has been quietly impressing... To the point where he is running with the 1's.

All I am saying is that you shouldn't rule him out.

I'm not ruling him out, but someone was saying that he's built like AJ Green or some bullshit. I think we should slow that talk down.

I spoke with Zod about him last season, as he caught pretty much anything thrown his way. Didn't make the squad because he wasn't "big enough" i think is what Zod mentioned. (correct me if I'm wrong Zod), but... this season he looks to hve put on some muscle, and is still running crisp routes and catching pretty much anything that comes at him.

As mentioned in Mondays TC report... the WR's were catching the ball well that day. And one of the tweets that came out was "Even Bersin is dropping balls today. That's saying something." Link: (https://twitter.com/CarolinaHuddle/status/493760918128709632)

I've liked that he's been pretty much the most surehanded pass catcher in training camp the last 2 training camps. But, there are other parts of his game he's been having to work on to make the active roster. I think he might be there this season.

I asked Zod on twitter today... "what are your thoughts Bersin making the team over mcnutt/king?"

His response was "Bersin easily beats both of them this year"

I like the kid, and hope he makes it. Would be a Cool Story (bro) if he does.

And I think someone mentioned that He might have a shot as well, cuz "Cam likes him".

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

When I saw pictures of him this year (haven't been to camp yet this year) versus seeing him last year, he does seem bigger and stronger.  I gathered he had good hands and ran decent routes last year but wasn't great blocking or getting off the line. If he has worked hard this season he shore up those weaknesses, then he very well could be on the team this year.  Still at a 4.67 in the 40 he better be able to find empty spots in a zone defense because he won't be running away from anyone in man to man. We have linebackers who run faster than that.

I was saying last TC that that he had the measurables and was developing well enough that I thought this year might be the year he could possibly crack the squad. Good to see him not plateau and actually have a chance to do so.

he's a scrappy gym rat with a high motor. A cerebral good character guy. Deceptively quick. A lunchpail guy, fundamentally strong. A poor man's wes welker. A student of the game.

Every description of a white football player? What was that from again?

It's not unfathomable to think that Bersin could emerge this year.  Realize last year how many UDFA contributed to our success, and people emerge every year, and one of the most common positions for that to happen is WR.  The purpose of purging the WR roster position was to give new players the opportunity to shine.  That said, Bersin could also still bust obviously.  How many times did Armanti Edwards shine at this point in camp only to flop when the game actually began.

    • I definitely respect your opinion more than Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, and Carmelo Anthony (whom I just watched on their show, all saying NOBODY wants to get the Hornets in the post-season). You win.
    • For all the good feelings about Bryce Young, when you read between the lines, it's what DC says and doesn't say that makes us know that Bryce hasn't necessarily been the supercomputer that they thought he would be. This season, Bryce has to make a tangible progression on the field. "A big part of it is being able to operate at the line of scrimmage — not in the huddle — when we want to, and he’s certainly capable of that," Canales said about Young. "It’s not solely on him. It’s a group that’s pretty young. You have to trust all the guys to go up there, communicate verbally or nonverbally and execute what we’re doing. We’ve made huge strides in that regard. His ability to alter things based on what they’re giving you will give us another edge, which he’s continued to grow and had some great examples down the stretch where he identified things they were doing, got us to the right check and capitalized on some plays. Want to see him do that more when it’s appropriate. We don’t need to be changing things just to change it." The implications, perhaps insinuations, are pretty evident. Bryce is just going to have to do better. "And then for Bryce, it’s the identification of early on the cues that the defense are giving us, to be able to eliminate parts of your progression before the ball’s even snapped. That happens with time. I’ve seen quarterbacks really own and master, which allows them to play lightning fast." Obviously Bryce isn't necessarily picking things up as fast as Canales would like, and I can only assume that Canales is making comparisons to Russell Wilson, Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield. But, of course, not everyone picks things up at the same rate. Bryce's pace has left Canales wanting for more. During the coming season, I don't believe that it will be good enough for Bryce to start putting things together in December, evidence of the light switch being on is going to have to show itself in September. Basically, it's really the moment that we've all been waiting for, the one that we thought should've happened earlier, the one that brings Bryce's accountability in the spotlight. On an off note, perhaps to that end, we should consider the possible implications upon the draft, but that's another story. Basically, it's time for Bryce to sh¡t or get off the pot. https://roundtable.io/sports/nfl/panthers/news/carolina-panthers-dave-canales-holds-nothing-back-on-bryce-young-in-new-interview
