2 TE sets

Recommended Posts

If we're really planning on running a lot of two TE sets this season, any chance we keep four TEs?

Panthers will keep 5 WRs and 3 TEs, or 4 WRs and 4 TEs depending on who shows up better in preseason.

With the offense the Panthers will run this season under Shula they will only need one speed receiver to stretch the field from the Panthers 30 to their opponents 40. Would love that speed receiver to be 6'5" but those are not easy to come by in the NFL. Cam needs big tall receivers at the sideline and a good sized shifty/crafty receiver in the slot to run across the middle. Cam needs big sure handed TEs to command the seams and push the safeties deep.

Your speed receiver comes from this group: Underwood, Pilares, and Brown. You take only one of these guys.

- This is Philly Browns spot if he can secure the punt returner position.

Kelvin Benjamin stays.

Your tactician comes from Cotchery, Avant, and Bersin. 2 of these receivers will make it. Cotchery is set.

Your receiving TEs are Olsen, Dickson, Williams, and Jefferson. Jefferson is doing well but he is near the back of the pack for TEs.

The final spot will go to Marcus Lucas or DC Jefferson. I see Lucas being much more of a threat with what Cam wants to do in the passing game.

2 WR set: Benjamin and Cotchery wide. 3 WR set: Benjamin and Lucas wide with Cotchery in the slot. 4 WR set: Benjamin and Olsen stacked wide on one side with Philly Brown wide to the other side and Cotchery in the slot. 5 WR set: trips with Olsen/Cotchery/Brown on one side and Benjamin/Lucas stacked on the opposite side. These would be the best combinations with Cam Newton's style of passing game, and the most difficult packages for teams to defend.

Shula wouldn't take a page from Chip Kelly's playbook & bust out a 4 TE set, would he? Confused the poo outta our defense last preseason...

The Panthers are lining tight end Ed Dickson outside like a wide receiver a lot in a two tight-end formation. At 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds, he's yet another big target for Newton. With Dickson, starting tight end Greg Olsen, wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin and Jerricho Cotchery on the field the average height of the receivers is just under 6-4. With a quarterback who has a tendency to throw high at times that could come in handy. Regardless, judging by the number of formations Dickson is a part of, he will be a large part of this offense.

Personally, I like the sound of that ^^^^

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
