Dalton signs 6 year deal......Cam watching

It's completely true. Owners didn't want to give up a higher percent of the revenue which would have increased the salary cap and in turn increased salaries, giving players more money. Then in contract negotiations fans bring up taking a pay cut for the good of the team. The owner of the team didn't want to take a pay cut for the good of the team and they're billionaires. How is someone like Cam, who came from nothing, suppose to feel in negotiations.

Look at LeBron and how he felt in Miami. He, Wade and Bosh take pay cuts to get together and put a team around them and then the owner amnesties Miller to save some money?

Cam did not come from nothing. His family is/was middle class.

I didn't mean he came from the ghetto. I didn't mean he lived on the streets. Compared to JR, and the contract he's about to get, he came from nothing.

Well so did about 99 percent of the players in the nfl if you go by that logic. Very few players have come from wealth.

I compare Cam to Hardy.  Hardy plays well in spurts--(got most or all of his sacks in 7 games or so) and he disappears for a few games.  He plays one side of the ball, and is asked to make about 5-7 solid plays per game.  $13 million.  Cam is asked to make about 20-25 solid plays a game.  He is not allowed to disappear, and he leads.

Cam is worth $23 million if Hardy is worth $13m.

I like the pay as you go idea for QB's especially.  They are the cash cow, so give them guarantees if they get hurt and then let their performance dictate their pay.  If Cam becomes great, the pay him as such.  If ho hum, then you have been able to at least surround him with quality players.

You're thinking of the billions of dollars owners have in their personal stash. What I'm saying is to look within the confines of the cap space. We aren't the 1990's Cowboys that can spend money on anyone we want. There is a limit on how many highly paid personnel we have. If Cam takes a pay cut then that means we can sign other stars instead of giving him a quarter of the salary.

You have to pay for what you think he will become also. Dg is on record saying that.

Yup that's why Dalton was paid so much even though he has been garbage in the playoffs for the last 3 years. The bengals are banking on dalton figuring it out eventually.

Personally, Cam at $23m now (before the cap rises considerably) over 6 years is a good deal.  There are about 10 people in the world who can do what he does (at his level) at the most important position in sports.  He is that important to this team.  OR we could pay RBs a combined $15 million, a 35-year old WR $7m+, etc.

Paying Cam is more bang for the buck.  I think he would take less than $23m right now--maybe $21-22, but to me, there is no better use of the $$.  Then pay Luke $75m over 6 years.  We would not regret either contract.  They both make average players good, good players great.
