While Kelvin Benjamin has been anointed a "legitimate No. 1" after 1 preseason catch...

It appears that Steve Smith might still be able to play...

And it doesn't appear that Brandon Lafail is doing too badly either.

Ted Ginn has battled injuries in Phoenix, but everyone knows what you are getting with him--- a pure speed guy---a burner with limitations, but a legit deep threat who can stretch the defense.

Benjamin is going to have to be very, very, very productive as a rookie in order for the new group of wideouts to be better than last years group of solid, if unspectacular players.

It might be sobering to remember that only 7 rookie receivers in the last 20 years have gone for more than 1000 yards in their first NFL campaign. And none of them are in Benjamin's mold as a player.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
