Tuck likes the 5-man front

Remember a few nights ago the Giants defense unveiled that five-man front. We're still thinking of names for it (although apparently the people of Fort Dodge, Iowa -- area code 515 -- are all huge Giants fans now!) but one thing we know for sure: Justin Tuck likes it.

Refresher course: The lineup had Tuck and Osi lined up next to each other on the right side, Kiwanuka at the other end, and Cofield and Alford in the middle.

"You're going to see a lot of that from us," Tuck said. "Luckily for me this defense and this coaching staff is giving me a lot of opportunity to move around a lot. It presents matchup problems. Think about it, you have an offensive guard and an offensive tackle and you have to face me and Osi on one side where we can do all sorts of games or we can just straight-rush you too. It really allows us to have the upper edge as far as offenses not knowing what we’re doing. They can't really get a bead on what we’re doing."

That will likely be used in passing situations. One drawback is that on a draw once you break through the line you have clear sailing with only one linebacker and DBs and safeties back there.

On the other hand, a line like that probably wouldn't have much trouble stopping the run. There are 4 gaps tackle to tackle, 5 with a tight end. That's 1 player per gap, OLBs to contain and the middle making a read.

The formation sounds intriguing, though I think it's weaknesses could easily be exploited by some of the top offenses. The screen pass is an over agressive defense's worst enemy.

      it's pretty simple IMO.  The Tepper Panthers are the most unsuccessful professional sports in all of sports.  The problem isn't the posters here have changed.  The product dictates the atmosphere more than anything.  In reality, the daily convos about THE worst team in all of pro sports on a fanatics site....is going to feature harsh and critical convo.  Only one entity can actually change that.  It's the Carolina Panthers football team.

      Yes message boards will always include that sort of stuff… However, this place has been a cess pool since the team took Bryce Young over CJ Stroud. It becomes a problem when it is accepted and promoted, which it has been here (even by at least one mod). Many posters sole purpose on this board is to try to dunk on others for having different opinions. We just had one write a novella on how talking about Bryce Young’s game winning drives “needs to stop”…after a win. They don’t want real conversation. It “needs to stop”. There are many posters here who literally only show up after losses to dead thread and try to dunk on others about the QB (MRenshaw is an easy example). I really don’t see much of that happening the other way around. There’s too many people that would rather the team be bad so they can feel justified for constant doom and gloom and negative opinions. It’s been pointed out by many over the past couple years. This just isn’t a place to have football discussions anymore because of the constant hyperbole. If you don’t subscribe to “Bryce Young is the worst QB ever who can’t throw the ball further than 5 yards and is the reason why we lose any game we lose and doesn’t help in any game we win”, then you are labeled a Bryce Young Stan.

      if you believe he is watching every NFL game.....every week.....go right ahead.  I get it, he said something you like.  But that's like believing the talking heads on the ESPN shows are watching all the games.  You think Stephen A is watching the Panthers every Sunday too?  If Stephen A needs to go on First Take he certainly can pretend like he has watched every snap any player on the roster has taken lol.   No one is that isn't a Panther fan has been watching the 9-25 career go down every Sunday.  Or even a lot of Sunday's.  You know who knows more about Bryce Young than Long? The collective huddle.  What they are reviewing is stat sheets, highlights and in summaries.  It's an old formula lol.
