I just watched the Detroit game again, some things of note

There were a lot of no-call "block in the back" penalties that occurred against us, mainly when we punted but some on run plays. Not sure if refs are not seeing them or it's just not something refs call anymore. Also, Detroit's lone TD had a celebration in the end zone where the ball was used as a prop (cradled it to sleep like a baby and kissed it good night, or so it appeared), isn't that a penalty?

Speaking of punting, our punt coverage unit needs a lot of work.

I thought it was a fineable offense to "point" but I've seen a lot of players do it throughout the first two weeks.

Crowd noise levels suck, as usual.

Detroit had opportunities to score a lot of points against us early and would have changed a lot of what they did near the end of the game if the score had been closer. Seemed that Detroit started losing the game with dropped passes and failure to adjust and around the 2 minute warning in the first half Stafford started forcing it to CJ for most of the rest of the game and missed a lot of open receivers (at least more open than CJ was).

Likewise, we shot ourselves in the foot so many times (and dropped balls)with costly penalties. Hopefully we reduce those numbers.

Too many injuries around the league. Not sure if it's lack of offseason practices or conditioning or what. Paraphrasing from Ronde early in the game, "Carolina has so many talented RBs they can have an injury there and be just fine," so we proceed to drop like flies.

KB is going to do great things for us. made some crucial plays, including blocking for first down runs, and he's doing it as a rookie and without too much practice with Cam this offseason.

Megatron's dropped TD pass was really an incomplete pass, gotta maintain possession throughout the catch while falling to the ground. Sorry Lions fans.

I'll clarify first that I know next to nothing when it comes to film study or play calling. With that said...

We didn't run too many 2TE sets but we had huge completions out of a lot of them. Interestingly, there were plenty of times when Dickson and/or Olsen were split out as wideouts which showed me that the Shula was looking for mismatches and seemed to be calling good plays given that Detroit was loading the box almost the entire game.

The reason I was looking at TE sets was in preparation for Pittsburgh. We'll be facing a 3-4 defense. I feel as though one of the best ways to defend against a blitzing D like theirs might be to go 2 TE for extra blockers, whether for run or pass, and we seemed to excel in that regard during the Detroit game.

TL;DR: We came, we saw, we conquered.

Sorry for the wall of text

I agree with the Block in the back calls that weren't made. I was screaming that all game while at the stadium... and I believe Kurb noticed them as well, as I recall he tweeted about "another missed Block in the back" I think.

The noise wasn't all that great, but it wasn't bad either. To start it was pretty good. as the game went on tho, it dwindled. I know my throat hurt from screaming and my hands hurt from clapping and banging on seat backs. (So much so that the Lions fan in front of me kept turning around and wondering if I was crazy... and the lady in front of me reading a book on her iPhone kept turning around and then complaining to the guy with her... who pretty much was like "yeah so?")

I think it helps that people forget Shula now has a guy in Ramsdell that I think is going to be HUGE in helping out Offense produce as the season goes on.

yeah when mr. mullet did his endzone celebration i thought for sure he'd get an unsportsmanlike for using the ball as a prop

and yeah there was a poo ton of holding.  stafford probably would have been sacked about three more times if not for that because kk and star were consistently blowing up the middle of the line

Remember when Cam Newton used to be a quarterback that started out games looking great and then slowly faded as the game went along?

Matt Stafford is still that guy, and I'm not sure he's ever going to get over that hump like Newton did.

People point to his stats and think "wow, he's great" but those who know stats don't tell the whole story see it differently.

He's just not clutch.

There were tons of missed calls in that game but with good ole Jerome thats going to happen. Hell you see the way the called that Raiders game and is still letting Newton get hit in the chest with helmets and not calling it. I hope at some point we can get away from C list refs and at least get to the B level of play calling.
