Cam Tonight

The eagerness that some of you have to criticize Cam Newton is disturbing.

I don't get it.  He is still a young QB.  I disagree with some of you, I feel like he has gotten better every year, he is hurt with broken ribs and a surgically repaired ankle that isn't 100%.

And he is playing well despite holding penalties and constant pressure.  Sure some of his sacks may come from him holding the ball too long, but sometimes you are going to get fooled by the defense, and sometimes guys just aren't going to get open.   Plus, usually he is even more dangerous when the play breaks down.

Just enjoy this 25 year old special QB and be glad he is on your team

I'm still confused on these high throws ppl are talking about. Yea, he throws it high at times but so does every QB in the league! Yesterday, I saw Peyton throw atleast 3-4 high balls. And even with those high throws, Cam still completed 70% of his passes! He's going to finish this year throwing at a career best rate somewhere between 64-70%. Now, there are times when Cam holds onto the ball too long, and I do believe Cam needs to throw the ball away at times. Some of you will never be satisfied with Cam. He's gone out there and improved his passing each year.

It's hard watching Cam out there now, because he's getting beat up and he's not able to escape pressure because of his injuries.

90% of this board only watches Panthers games, yet will argue all day about Cam and how he stacks up against other QB's and talk about how Cam does this wrong or that when they have absolutely no clue.

Peyton throws into triple coverage with a clean pocket with 3 minutes left and throws an INT. Could you imagine if Cam did that?

Also, I love KB but he has to cut down on some of his drops. He should've had 2 TDs last night. He misjumped one play, but even with the misjump, he still got his hands on the ball and should've came down with the catch. He also dropped 1-2 more passes; one of those on the FG drive. We needed a TD there. Not worried about him, though. He'll get it together.

The offense wasn't that bad. You guys need to learn how to watch football games. The key is to look for what mistake was made and at what crucial that mistake was made. Cam didn't know what lineman was going to screw up last. They took turn. From Kalil to Silatolu, to Bell. Even that was manageable and they got the game to a 10 point deficit with 12 minutes left and possession. And the the 2 mistakes came, the Brown fumble and the MLB giving up that 80 yard run.

Cam and the receiving corp came to play last night. Even the statistic can tell you that. Can't expect Cam to win every game with a run.

I'm not saying how horrible our offense was or that I'm expecting Cam to win us the game. I am pointing out just how much his injuries are affecting his play because had he been 100% we would've scored more and earlier, sustaining drives giving our D fresh legs.

Aggie you have to understand, these posters doesn't watch other football teams and games

Their complaints is really big in their head, but its really small in the NFL. Imagine if Cam was throwing INT as much as some others. This place would explode

This fan-base doesn't even understand the fact that we're building a powerhouse here that can soon reach the level Seattle and competitive enough to garner overreaction when they lose. We're just one good draft away from stage.

As soon as we're able to invest in an actual O-line and protection for Cam, starting the next off season, we are going to be a phenomenally good team

This is not how the game is played, my man! That's not the way it works. Last showed that Cam made great strides in the passing game and the offense can move the ball when it wants to. It's not a 'what can Cam do for you' team. When you give up TDs while you're in possession of the football it's difficult to win. We scored a TD easily and the D gave us the ball back again. We were moving the ball easily. It's not about Cam scoring early or late.

You have to analyze it on game by game, possession by possession, not what Cam could have done. Only kids view things like that.

You are ridiculously slow. This is a thread about Cam's performance, which, like every single aspect of our team, can be analyzed and critiqued. It's not what Cam "COULD'VE" done it's what Cam "WOULD'VE" done had he been 100%. It's clear as day that his injuries are affecting his play.

I'm thinking it's probably best to roll with da for a game or 2 at least. Cam is obviously limited by his injuries and it is probably best to get him healthy. He cant escape pressure and if he keeps getting hit 85 times a game he will not make it through the season.

    • I'm not sure 19 is too high for Rodriguez anymore.  He looks to be moving up boards, but it could be smokescreens.
    • I see XL this way---great athlete.  Good person.  When we drafted him, we knew he was raw.  One year of WR in college (starting) and in HS, he was a QB, I believe. We knew we would need patience with him.  I think year 3 will be make or break.  He is older, and I think that people with his athletic ability have always been better than those with less---but those with less can become more successful.  Why is that?  in my view, it is mental. XL can learn the mechanics and nuances of playing WR if he becomes focused on it and works at it.  I had the opportunity to talk to Armanti Edwards one day after OTAs (great guy) and he discussed how overwhelming it was.  He seemed shocked.  At that time, I knew that Fox hated the pick (I heard him mock Armanti to another coach when he saw Edwards drop a punt from a jugs machine--then I saw Armanti look back at Fox as if to suggest that he was feeling the pressure to please the coach. We forget that these are kids in their early 20s.  At the time, Fox was a lame duck.  Remember when he had Clausen as the #3 QB and was forced to move him up the ladder?  I liked Fox, but I think the climate and culture was influenced by the politics.  Currently, I see another Wr from SC who is struggling, but he is ina  very nurturing, positive culture. Let's see what happens with XL.  I am frustrated too---but XL was a second round talent who was raw and we traded up to get him.  He had 500 yards as a rookie--lets call 2025 a sophomore slump and see if we can't get at least 50 yards per game out of him.  If not, cut bait.
    • Sadiq feels like a lazy comp.  Sure he would be a big improvement over what we have but at a position we don't and maybe can't (midget qb) utilize.  I hope the staff puts together a list of players you automatically take at 19 (Freeling, Lemon, Downs, Faulk) and if none are there, trade back to look at (Thieneman, McNeil-Warren, Proctor, Lomu, Allen, Iheanachor, Banks, Woods).  I get the people that think an OT would be a waste because we temporarily patched that hole, and ILB and safety are a waste because that is high to take those particular positions, but by trading back we get extra picks to fill every need.  A draft that has an OT, S, ILB, slot WR, and C would really put us in a good position moving forward if we get an extra first three rounds additional pick.
