I actually do like Gruden on MNF. Don't want him as a coach though. He's stated before, if he comes back, he wants full control. I think that would be a disaster. I wouldn't give keys to the organization to very many people, especially not Gruden.

He's done a great job of making people forget just how badly he ran the Bucs into the ground after winning a Super Bowl with Tony Dungy's team.

Shula is a good qb coach, not offensive coordinator. He runs the same bs , im a highschool oc and I call out the plays he does its too simple . If im calling the plays hes doing, what you think these defensive coordinators are doing? First play pass secound run to rightside inside tackles no gain then do a comeback route on third down too predictable. Any good oc would make this talented offense top 10

Top ten?  With the O-Line we have now, a hobbled quarterback and 4th and 5th string runningbacks as starters?

I'm not the world's biggest Shula fan but that's a stretch even Mister Fantastic couldn't make.

Before I answer this (it's a legitimate question, there's a lot of people here who just call for heads to roll without thinking about who should/could realistically replace them), I have to say, how do we know Cam likes him? I mean, Cam would never say anything in press conference even remotely close to "Well, you know, our play calling hasn't been good" or "The scheme we're running don't seem to fit". He would get crucified for saying something like that.

Exactly

The thing that makes me pause about Ramsdell is that if you look at his resume', the only thing he's ever done is position coaching. He's never been a coordinator, so this would be new to him.

On the flipside, he's coached every position group on offense except O-Line at one point or another, and his biggest success has been as a quarterbacks coach. Generally speaking, the QB Coach is the first guy you look at as a potential OC.

Mind you, with us that's actually Ken Dorsey. Ramsdell is officially a 'senior offensive assistant'. And while I could conceivably ponder a scenario where Dorsey gets the OC job and Ramsdell backfills, that's extremely hard to imagine because Dorsey's only been a pro coach of any kind for 2 years. Ramsdell has been coaching in some capacity or another since 1972.

For those thinking Proehl could take the job, again it's possible but Proehl hasn't been an NFL coach much longer than Dorsey has. Yes he was a longtime player, but that's still a stretch.

I sincerely doubt Shula gets bumped, but if he does and the replacement is on the staff I gotta think it's either Ramsdell or Jim Skipper. Probably Ramsdell.

(and quick FYI guys. Our current offense is a Coryell)

Yes, he's only been a positional coach to date. However, he's been a very successful one. It definitely won't be Dorsey, or Proehl. Like you said, they don't have the experience yet.

I understand we run a Coryell style offense, but it's very "modified" IMO. We run our formations very tight, which I believe is the Shula influence. It needs to spread out more, and force the defense to do the same. That's where it shines. The other thing I notice is our RB's are definitely not utilized in true Coryell fashion. It's mostly run or block for them, and they're very under utilized in the passing game, which is another element that is highly useful in the Coryell offenses. Again, that's probably Shula's style shining through. It could also be that the o-line is atrocious, but I truly feel like spreading the formations out would help a lot.

The only thing Shula does is try to control time of possession, which limits the opposing team Offense, while making their defense tired. Now when he does that well, We win, but when he doesn't we lose or its a real close game. Shula wouldn't even have his job right now if the defense wasn't so good last year. Like I been saying, Shula offense is garbage. When Shula is at his best he still can't help the offense score more then 35. He's ok when getting the ball to the 20, but after that he forgets he's the OC. I can go on and on about Shula.

The sad thing is that Shula was a damn good QB coach. Some people just get promoted beyond their abilities.

The Peter Principle. Shula is the embodiment of the Peter Principle.

If Jeff Davidson cannibalized Dan Henning and shat him out onto Chud's toe nail clippings, the end result would be a more creative offense than Shula could muster.

Every coach puts their own spin on it.

Shula's  approach last year was definitely different than this year.

I find it hard to say our offense is an Air Coryell offense. There's very little motion from WRs, it seems like there's never underneath options for check downs, and we don't have speedy WRs to stretch the field.

From his own words...

The recent promotion of Mike Shula from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator by the Carolina Panthers got its most important endorsement Friday.

“I don’t think there was a better person that could come in and take over,’’ quarterback Cam Newton said Friday after a Gatorade Sports Science Institute news conference to talk about nutrition. “I’m excited about taking the next steps in the process with him.’’

I asked Newton if he and Rivera talked during a process, during which Hue Jackson and Pat Shurmur also were interviewed. Newton said he and Rivera chatted and shared thoughts.

Newton said he and Shula have talked multiple times since the promotion.
