5 Days off in a row. This guy is starting to worry me. He cant even stay on the practice field.

And dont gimme this "Oh well last year he did the same thing blah blah blah..."

Remember late in the year he broke away for what should have been a sure TD

and cramped up from fatigue about 10 yards out? No way he could make it a full season carrying the rock full time like this.

I love me some Jstew... kids got all the talent, size and speed needed... but he's obv not very durable. And when it comes to power btwn the tackles RB's...t hat aint good!!!

It's gotta be a concern at this point. I fully expected him to be ready to go by now.

Right after we drafted him I talked with an old Ducks football player who watches Oregon religiously. His only comment is that Stewart can play though pain well (which alludes to the fact Stewart is always hurt). That points to a good but short career.

I'm concerned as well, but I don't know how dependable I am as I never was really sold on the idea of drafting a back that early in a draft so deep in runners. I always will grade Stewart on a very tough scale.

Well, with his semi-roughed up body from the waist down last year he managed a mere 836 yards and 10 touchdowns with a 4.8 ypc.

I don't mind that he sits out of hot practices in August when he is a little roughed up. Come game time, you know what you'll get.

i'm concerned but not too concerned.

we are accomplishing two very good things at the moment. 1) stewart is keeping rested. when he walks around or is doing stretches and warmups with the rest of the team you can't tell there is anything wrong. he has a tore tendon. they are letting him rest. less chance of further injury = lasting longer in the season. 2) they are finding out that they have a 3rd running threat in goodson and are getting a chance to see just what this kid can do and it is more than they thought and were anticipating. had it not been for this break stewart might have problems down the road or even early in the season and we also wouldn't know what all this new guy is capable of.

is he injury prone? i don't know i would go that far but he isn't one that you would say was not used to getting hurt. he will and has played through pain. he will play hard and will do whatever it is that he is asked. we know this from experience. it's ok to be concerned but don't let it consume you. the running game is going to be fine.

Is it possible that Fox could be holding him out just to be cautious or for goodson to get some reps to have a viable 3rd back when the season starts? Hasnt it beend documented that some players get time off to simply rest with x injury like when peppers had some sort of illness a few seasons ago.

I didn't take it as bashing at all in any way. Just a little concern due to his failure to practice. I concur with that concern.

Yeah, no way is it bashing. He's an outstanding player. I love how he runs over people.

I just dont like the fact that he is missing so much practice time, again.

If HEAVEN FORBID... DWill got hurt I just dont know it JStew is durable enough to carry the rock more.

This isn't about Goodson, it's about Fox wanting to make sure Stewart is able to give 100% when the regular season starts and also reducing the risk of aggravating a nagging injury. Getting Goodson some good experience is just a bonus. But if Stewart was healthy, he would be out there as the #2.

As for Stewart’s health, there is no question that he has a long injury history, so to have some concern is reasonable and logical. But that isn't the same as being panicked or overly worried. Thus far in his career, he has been able to overcome his injury history, but the question is how long can that continue. At some point, if he keeps getting these ankle and foot injuries, it will eventually catch up to him.

Fortunately though, none of his previous injuries appear to be chronic, so it's possible that going forward, he can overcome his history and stay relatively healthy. So while I have some concern, I think it is way too early to be worried. If he goes into next off-seasons mini-camps and TC with another nagging injury, then I might start to get a little nervous. But right now, it sounds like with a little rest he should be fine for this season, and I expect another productive year out of him.

    • Here’s a summary of the JJ and Luke podcast transcript. Opening / Bryce Young Fifth-Year Option     •    JJ: Breaking news — Panthers picked up Bryce Young’s fifth-year option at $25.9M, guaranteed, coming in 2027. Combined with his 2025 salary of ~$6M, that’s $31M over two years — called it a “no-brainer.”     •    Luke: Enthusiastic about the move. Highlighted Bryce’s improving TD/INT ratios (11/10 → 15/9 → 23/11) and the value of entering year three with Dave Canales. Noted $25M is a bargain relative to the $60M top of market. Luke’s Personal Update — Charlotte Christian Football     •    Luke: Working with Charlotte Christian school football program, which hired a new head coach. Coaches include Greg Olsen, Luke, and Greg’s dad Chris Olsen (a New Jersey State coaching Hall of Famer).     •    JJ: Jokingly quipped that Charlotte Christian’s coaching staff is “the world’s greatest” — a Fox analyst, a Hall of Famer, and the best Panthers RB ever — all coaching middle school football.     •    Luke: Praised Chris Olsen’s deep football knowledge spanning decades and his ability to connect with kids. Round 1, Pick 19 — Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia     •    JJ: Panthers were on the clock and submitted their pick almost immediately — a sign of confidence and preparation. Freeling is 6’7”, 320 lbs, played in the SEC in a pro-style system.     •    Luke: Loved the pick. Emphasized you can never have too many quality offensive linemen. Noted Freeling’s size, athleticism, and arm length as key traits. Said the pick also reflects team’s philosophy of drafting great people, not just great players.     •    JJ: Noted reporter Darren Gantt compared Freeling favorably to Jordan Gross — bigger, heavier, and faster — as a potential franchise left tackle.     •    Luke: Pointed out that young players like Freeling still have physical development ahead of them, comparing the trajectory to Christian McCaffrey’s growth from age 20 onward. Round 2, Pick 49 — Lee Hunter, DT, Texas Tech     •    JJ: Panthers traded up from 51 to 49 (pick swap with Minnesota) to grab Hunter. Played audio from Panthers area scout Kaden McLuhan, who scouted Hunter.     •    Scout Kaden McLuhan (audio): Said Hunter’s size is immediately striking, and that everyone around him spoke glowingly about his character, energy, and love for the game.     •    Luke: Praised Hunter as a massive (6’3”, 320 lbs, ~34” arms) two-gap nose tackle who fits perfectly in the Evero defense. Compared his prospect profile to Akiem Hicks. Said having Derek Brown, Bobby Brown, Derrick Brown, Terson Wharton, and now Hunter creates varied body types that stress offensive linemen.     •    JJ: Noted Hunter ranked third among all prospects in run-stuff rate and sixth in interior pass-rush win rate — addressing a perception that he couldn’t rush the passer. Rounds 3–7 Highlights     •    Luke: Highlighted WR Brazle (3rd round, 6’4”, 437 speed, 1,000+ yards at Tennessee) as the vertical threat the offense needed. Also praised OL Sam Heck (5th round) as a technically sound player whose “short arms” caused him to fall but who has proven himself.     •    Luke: Mentioned CB Will Lee (6’1”, 33” arms) fits the Panthers’ DB prototype — big, long corners.     •    Luke: Praised S/LB hybrid Zaki Wheatley (5th round, 6’3”) as a big nickel similar to Trayvon Merek.     •    Luke: Excited about the linebacker competition between Devin Lloyd, Trevvin Wallace, and Claudin Cherless.     •    JJ: Noted Panthers had the #1 “steal/overreach” rating in the entire draft — drafting players lower than consensus big boards projected. Around the League     •    Luke: Admitted being “a little jealous” that the Miami Dolphins drafted LB Jacob Rodriguez (Luke’s favorite LB in the draft). Has personal connections to Miami’s coaching staff (Jeff Hafley, DC Shawn Dugen — a childhood teammate).     •    Luke: Also noted Miami’s selection of OT/G Kaden Proctor out of Alabama, who will likely move to guard. League Trends — Bigger Tight Ends / 12 & 13 Personnel     •    JJ: Observed the NFL saw its highest run rate in ~11 years (~52%) and a notable pivot toward big blocking tight ends in this draft.     •    Luke: Explained the cyclical nature of NFL offense/defense evolution — as defenses get smaller to match spread offenses, teams counter with bigger personnel (12/13 formations), which then forces defenses to get bigger at the nickel/“big nickel” spot. Called it an ongoing arms race.
