Goodell believes in due process, but...

Mr. Scot

Which is exactly what they're doing.  And as such. actually taking more control rather than less.

Which means if you are a  member of one of the leagues darling teams your accusations will have a much higher hurdle to get over before receiving a suspension than if you are a member of the Panthers, Jaguars, etc.

Hell, the league could practically use something like this to fix games if it wanted.  The league can be as harsh with stuff as they like but it needs to be consistent across the board if it wishes to remove all appearances of impropriety.  Doesn't sound like they are really thinking this through but, then again, thats been their standard operating procedure since the RR video came out.

Heck, even if they didn't do that, there could be the appearance of impropriety.

Mort was on NFL live right after goodells presser yesterday saying that the poo storm has just subsided for the time being! He mentioned the AP case and hinted at the Hardy trial saying if said players are found innocent will it be a timed served scenario seeing as both will have missed more than 6 games by the time the trials are decided upon, or will the commish see the need to add on more time! Mentioned the fans/owners would be outraged if players were found innocent and not allowed to play ASAP! I think chances are getting better, if Hardy is found innocent, that we could see him in a uni by the last month of the season! Goodell is hated/untrusted by fans but has the support of the owners now, keeping star players off the field longer than necessary could result in him losing the only support he has!

There's been speculation from more than one source that Goodell will ride out this season just for pride (just so he and the league can say they 'beat' the scandal) and then step down, claiming it to be unrelated to the scandal or saying he had been considering it before all this started or some such.

they let the media determine who should have to sit and who still gets to play.  if we would have just kept playing Hardy like the 9ers did McDonald, does anyone still think the media would be bitching about it to this day or would they have moved on to something more recent?

i heard it's been a dream for Condoleeaza Rice to hold the commissioner position for the NFL.

If I was a owner id let hardy play! If hes still in the process he should be able to play.

If you have to go to court does your job allow you not to work while still getting paid?

I prefer letting due process play out before imposing any kind of punishment.  That's true fairness to me.

But for the league right now, it isn't about fairness.  It's about image.

I can NOT fathom the logic of someone serving more time and in Greg Hardys case he will more than likely be drawing unennployment by the time his case is resolved than someone who is convicted of DV.IMO,Roger Goodell should have let the court make their decision before taking any course of action.

I've heard that too.  And it would do a lot to help their image problems.

Me?  Nothing against Rice (unfortunate name coincidence aside) but I prefer a 'football' person, someone who's already been in the NFL for a long time and knows all the ins and outs.

I believe Roger Goodell is going to resign once Robert Mueller concludes his investigation of the Ray Rice incident before the end of this month.

Problem with that...

John Mara: Robert Mueller's NFL investigation to take 'several' months

Florio believes the League wants the report to be delayed until after the Super Bowl to keep it out of sight, out of mind.

Goodell had to approve them going on the list and has to approve them going back to active status. He has taken such a beating over this stuff that it may be hard to get his OK.

    • I do think the rating is fair given how this unit hasn’t proven it with production. I understand you have to rank off production, not potential. However, our unit is also in a position to make this rating look foolish a year from now. We have 4 guys in the WR/TE room who all could legitimately take the next step this year, and catapult our rank. A guy under a lot of people’s radar after we took Tet, Jalen Coker. Mark my words, he will become the star of this room, and be the heir to Thielen.
    • Exactly. You’d think 2-7 wins a year (in a 17 game season no less) since 2017 is going to keep us bottom tier. Every year we say the same poo like we haven’t been a bad team the past 7 years. Until we prove we aren’t a bottom dweller, that’s where we’ll stay ranked. God forbid we have OL injuries like 2016.
    • What I love and hate about this team is it’s more filled with potential breakout players than ever before. JT, XL, Coker, Smith-Wade, Ikem, Trevin… and even Bryce are all guys I could legitimately see taking the next step. But the problem with having so many of those guys is that team success somewhat relies on them taking that step, and some are bound not to. That being said, I’m cautiously optimistic given our softer schedule, the way the offense clicked late last year, and the direction we finally have at GM, coach, and QB. Could see us as a sneaky playoff team.
