Anyone here been to/lived in Seattle?

I love the city of Seattle and the weather there, always the perfect temp and not too wet. Only been a few times and never for very long but I'd live there if I had an opportunity. Wouldn't be my first choice but much better than where I'm at now (Boston).

Lots of rain or at least cloudy skies, pure sunny days are few. green grass, great oysters and kick ass night life. City is new, modern, fresh and clean. I absolutely LOVE Seattle. Downside is that it is expensive as hell to live in. It gets cold but not like Minneapolis or Detroit.

I disagree Seattle is expensive. A few things get you saving from the get-go: 1 - no state income tax, 2 - cheaper electricity (hydroelectricity costs less to produce versus nuclear; also you won't be running A/C all summer) 3 - no sales taxes on food 4 - no annual vehicle taxes

eta: sales taxes on non-food items is pretty high and if you have any body of water touching your land you will pay fees and taxes out the wazoo. however, you can NOT live next to water and you can travel down to Oregon and pay no sales taxes on larger items.

Seattle is nice. I really enjoyed a weekend there. If you love weekend excursions it's a great place with Mount Ranier nearbye. Canada is a short drive away. The City of Vancouver is gorgeous in the summer but expensive.

That is the one thing I noticed about Seattle, everything seemed to be more expensive than I am accustomed to in Charlotte. Factor that into your decision and what they offer for compensation.

I grew up hearing stories about how the weather in the Northwest was miserable and people there were miserable. I mean heck, the depressing grunge music of the 90s was born there. But that wasn't my experience at all.

The city was clean, the people were friendly, young, and educated. I've heard similar things about Austin actually. The University of Washington is right there if you enjoy Pac 10 football. They had tons of great places to eat with all the different cultures. They have a good music scene too.

I only spent like 4 days there but I left thinking that would be a really cool place to live. The one thing I will say walking downtown, the elevation changes were sudden. I mean 4 flights of stairs to get from the water front up a hill. That might be new coming from Austin.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
